In requested articles: sport, I'm not sure so much detail is needed in adding descriptive notes after the names. (It looks like you made a start on this.) If someone's planning to write an article they may likely choose a name with which they're already familiar; maybe simply noting the particular sport would be sufficient, to clear up confusion on common names. It was just a thought; the page has about 700 names right now (I tend to think anything over 1000 would get unwieldy here), and adding comments/descriptions would at least double the page length. (Besides, the descriptions are just as well added to new bio pages as to the request page; it's the same work twice.) And of course there are cases like Agganis, who starred in 2 sports (he's in the College FB Hall of Fame). MisfitToys

Thanks for doing all that work on the baseball pages. I have a few pieces of advice to make your work even more productive and useful to our community. First, study the changes I made to Tony Armas and Chico Carrasquel. For images, please use the following syntax[[Image:name.jpg|thumb|200px|right|Tony Armas]] . Also, sudy Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) closely. There are certain standards we try to use for formatting articles that are biographies.

Lastly, please do not place external links in the middle of an article. Instead, create an internal link, even if it links to nothing. Someday someone will come along and make that new article.

First at all, I would like to thank for your help in cleaning up my collaborations. Right now, Chico & Armas looks better after you did it.

In addition, you advised me that I should get some Wiki standards. It's right. I started editing Wikipedia on March 30, 2004 (Wallace Davenport), so I'm a wiki-one-month-old almost, but I'm still learning and working in it.

Basically, I am a reader, not a writer, and my main language is Spanish. Due to this, I know that sometimes my english looks some strange, but no problem. If necessary (a friend hand always is necessary) "someday someone will come along and make that new article", according your own words.

At this point, I'm sorry about disturbing some people that used intimidating advices about my collaborations. I know that some of the pages I've worked need a help. If you know anything about these subjects, please lend a hand. These are generally things I just don't know enough about to edit in english. If you can fix one up, please mention it on my talk page. I can remember that the baseball philosopher Yogi Berra said "The game's isn't over until it's over." The wiki articles neither. I try to do the best I can. Reading your note is like having a conversation with a friend.

You might want to take a look at some of the revisions I've done on a few of your pages; I've just gone over those for Wes Ferrell, Minnie Minoso, Dave Concepcion, Ed Delahanty and a few others, and you might get some ideas for linking from what I've revised. (I don't know enough about image framing to fix the one for Ferrell.) You can look through my editing history for changes I've made to other baseball pages. In particular, please note that you should try to use the following links, instead of the ones you've used before: batting average instead of (AVG)
home run instead of (HR)
run batted in instead of (RBI)

Note that HR will lead to the page for Croatia (Republika Hrvatska), and RBI will lead to a page for various things with those initials. (AVG won't lead to anything.)

Accented characters:

The only one I've seen problems with is that ý on Recent Deaths, and I see you've just been changing a bunch of (eg) ás to &aacutes. If you're doing that to avoid the nastiness you suffered on Deaths, then it's probably not necessary. And it's easier to edit articles with ís rather than with &iacutes. Question

I mentioned this on RadicalBender's page as well a little while ago - Are all these categories (one for each year's All-Star team) really necessary? It seems to me that most major league players could probably do quite well with just one or two categories organized by position; even a category for each team seems awkward to me. Optimally, as an alternative, there would be a page for each year's All-Star Game, linked to the players' pages. It's just that I can see the categories getting to be too much. (Some players would have 15 to 20 categories for All-Star teams, another few for teams, potentially others for awards, plus those for positions.) MisfitToys 03:36, Jul 23, 2004 (UTC)

Interested in starting a baseball wikiproject?

I looked at some of the wikiprojects and I think it would be a good idea to have a baseball wikiproject to keep baseball player's bio's & other baseball pages consistent. Having something like an 'infobox' (like Wikipedia:WikiProject_snooker) for standard biographical info would be a good way to keep standard things in the same place. So far I've talked to Indrian about this and he was interested in doing it (see his talk page). I was wondering what other baseball contributors thought about the idea. It would also be a good way to agree to what categories there should be, what baseball articles need to be worked on, images that are needed, etc. Please reply as to whether you would be interested in working on this with us. 2004 in Sports

I've proposed to tidy up the year in sports pages to make them a quick overview of the year in sports - I floated the idea on the Village Pump and got no complaints - only one positive though. This would mean I'd be shifting the extra colour that some of the sports have into their own pages - such as 2004 in baseball and 2004 in cricket. What do you think of this? Hey there -- you and I spoke long ago when you first arrived here. At least, that's what I recall. Anyway, I've noticed your name around, and I've realized you've done a lot of good work here (though mostly solitary, it seems -- judging from your talk page, at least!). I'm considering nominating you for a position as an administrator. Before I do, though, I want to chat with you. First of all, would you like to be an admin? Do you think you would use those powers, or at least that they might be useful to you? Second of all, do you think you know wikipedia policy well enough to be an admin? If you don't, but you'd be willing to learn about it, I suggest reading the Wikipedia:Administrator's reading list. Finally, I would ask if you've ever been in a dispute, but the talk page's emptiness suggests you haven't. If I nominated you, the lack of disputes would be both good and bad -- people would like that you don't get into fights, but they'd probably also wonder about your ability to handle disputes if they haven't seen you in one. Have you ever been in a dispute about an article you were working on that you feel was handled well by you? That would be a good one to mention in a nomination. Sorry for the long note, but I thought you should be rewarded for all your hard work. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}} template (or {{MultiLicensePD}} for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1

I agree to [[Wikipedia:Multi-licensing|multi-license]] all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:

OR

Option 2

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}} with {{MultiLicensePD}}.
