Hello MatthewVanitas, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12,878 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
  • We have successfully cleared the backlog of pages created by non-confirmed accounts before ACTRIAL. Thank you to everyone who participated in that drive.

Technology update:

  • Primefac has created a script that will assist in requesting revision deletion for copyright violations that are often found in new pages. For more information see User:Primefac/revdel.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello MatthewVanitas, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

New Years new page backlog drive

Hello MatthewVanitas, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Proposed deletion of Kakur

The article Kakur has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG. It does get one or two mentions from the Raj era but they're only passing and with no modern sources there is no substance

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jogi wiki

Hello there wikipedia limited in terms of jogi history and origin. Kindly review entire truth about the community.

If you want to add facts, you must cite your sources. Uncited claims will be deleted. MatthewVanitas (talk) 09:29, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

Jogi

Hello sir, It is not necessary that all the cited contents are true and all the uncited contents are false, some truths are in mouth words of people and practice they live. There is possibility of loss of source but still the contents are genuine. There are countless histories lost in india it does not mean that those facts were never exist. So kindly cross check the Holy books of India.

It doesn't matter if you personally claim something is true; if you can't provide a source, you cannot add a claim no matter how true you think it is. MatthewVanitas (talk) 12:05, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

I am not claiming personally this is the truth followed by our ancestors over thousands of year. I being a community fellow know more than you about Indian history. Please go through the several Holy books of India. Read about Lord Shiva and Rama and other Kings of India. Many things are not written by a person which had experienced or seen.

It is not my job to "read the Holy books of India", it is imperative on you to source your statements. Also, as you've been repeatedly told, a whole section you are restoring is illegally copied from another website, that is why I am undoing your changes. If you are not able to find evidence for your assertions, then you cannot just add things because you claim them to be true. It's not my fault if you are not willing to put out any effort whatsoever to prove your claims. MatthewVanitas (talk) 13:18, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

Sir it is not a copy of any website. it is the fact read in various sources, heard from many community members, various discussion board, Peoples' live witness. Contents that you are showing is totally irrelevant to our true history. I do not believe in unwise things about Gorakhnath's birth. Actually he was a warrior saint who also lead to form a Gorkha(Gurkha) a militant community, warriors of Nepal and some part of India. If you see past history early days many kings who practiced asceticism became a Jogi. Still now if you see any Jogi he will be seen with various weapons, I am not only talking about on Kumbhamela but the Mahanths of Jogi who are also called as Maharaj in various mutt around India, still follow Kingship culture with asceticism. Lord Shiva is a Aadi Yogi(Jogi) who is also considered as a Lord of War in Indian culture, Lord Rama was a Yogi who was a King. There are many examples. if you analyse Navnath panth. So this is my humble request to you that please do not try to fade our true history only because source has been lost. It was in practice not in written.

The section on Jogis of Mangalore is illegally copied from this website: https://therealshrinidhi.wordpress.com/2014/10/16/jogis-of-mangalore/
That is part of the reason your edits are being undone; you are adding material which has been illegally copied.
That aside you need to stop with the arguments that your claims are true even though lacking any citations. Wikipedia does not care how fervently you insist something is true, because our core requirement is WP:Verifiability. If you cannot cite a reliable and credible source for a fact, it does not matter how loudly you insist "it's true", because Wikipedia can only use content if it has a clear and reliable citation. MatthewVanitas (talk) 06:17, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Mangalore section was not copied from any websites instead that content was there since so long added to wiki by other individual. I just altered that section according to reality as I have many community friends from Mangalore region, I have been there also. I know the circumstances. These website builders also get these kind of information from unsourced origin. Or it can be their imagination. They neither discuss with community member nor cross check others. They keep changing the information every now and then if you see in various publications of Mangalore. How can third person say about a community while he is not a part of it. And please check the many community wiki of india which lacks citation. but still people claim and they do show the facts and it is true also but unfortunately there won't be a proof but that does not change the reality what they live right. All the wiki in some angle lacks citation for that reason you cannot change the reality. Please check this how many article need citations. In that case you cannot say all that are wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.98.5.135 (talk) 13:27, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

{ping|86.98.5.135}} the standard Wikipedia reply is WP:Other stuff exists. That is, the existence of other poor-quality articles does not give you license to turn Jogi into a poor-quality article by adding uncited material to it. If you want to be helpful, go to GoogleBooks and find documented facts about the caste to share. MatthewVanitas (talk) 13:31, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

When you can allow those edits why not mine in fact I explaining you in every way. I agree that there is lack of proofs but do not target only this article that leads to wrong information being a community fellow i cannot tolerate that. You are pointing at only my edit, just check the article again after deleting my edit still it lacks citation, information. You think deleting my edit will solve all the errors, information inaccuracy. I thank you for your Google book suggestion. but please do not undo the changes I made. Soon I will try to get the proofs required. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.98.5.135 (talk) 13:48, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

@86.98.5.135:, I can't personally fix every single article that needs citations, but again that's no justification to just let people add whatever they want without sourcing anything.
Definitely please do take a look at GoogleBooks to see if you can find some interesting facts about the Jogi community which you can cite. Note that any GoogleBooks link can be instantly turned into a footnote with the tool at http://reftag.appspot.com . Here are two interesting books I found which discuss the community:
While looking for sources, please note that the quality of the source counts. Books that are not by serious authors or publishers are discouraged (Gyan is an infamously poor publisher of Indian history, riddled with errors). Also Raj-era sources are generally not used unless written by serious academics, since most Raj-era writers were administrators or businessmen, not scholars or academics, and were heavily influenced by British concepts of racism and thus not academically accurate. But there are many good books on GoogleBooks written by serious academics (from India and from other countries) with proper historical analysis of Indian communities. MatthewVanitas (talk) 13:58, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Sir both the books emphasis only on either later movements of Jogis or specific region like Bengal. But Jogis are in every part of India not only Bengal. There is unclear about birth of Gorakhnath some source says he born from cow dung these are all illogical things unwise imagination of people. He was a warrior saint another proof is Gorkhas of Nepal. And the origin of nath panth is not from buddism those books were edited multiple times, people had no idea it was just published and earlier for book publishing no individual like you(fountain of knowledge) was sitting to verify and publish. It was simply been published without cross check. like that many books are available without logic now being a citation for bunch of wiki. Jogis later engaged in various occupation some high level, some low level for lively hood.you can compare the member of community between each region. Limited source version will be a citation for limited knowledge. You presently see any member of Jogi Shaiva order are seen with various weapons, Most of them involve in Akhada(Arena). Nath panth arises from Aadinath, Lord rama, and many other Kings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.98.5.135 (talk) 15:24, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

@Kiranpz: your article has been approved, but please observe this link to see what mistakes I had to correct: link here. You made a great many small mistakes like not leaving a space between words, excess spaces, over- and under- capitalizing words, etc. Careless mistakes can cause delay in approving your article, so please notice the trend and in the future be more watchful of simple mistakes so you do not delay your drafts. Sarod article

There are already lots of names with no links under "Key figures in its early development" in the article on Sarod. In the case of the name I added, Zarin Daruwala/Sharma, it is someone who should have her own article in Wikipedia. I just haven't done enough research to be able to create her article at this point. Still, she should be mentioned under the "Sarod" article. 70.114.211.80 (talk) 21:55, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

@70.114.211.80: I grant that the section of early players lacks links, but all the modern players have links, so if you want to add a modern player you need to make their article first and only then add them. If you've never made an article before, I suggest using Wikipedia:Article wizard so you can get the layout right, and get feedback before it's published (though there is a bit of a long wait for reviews currently). My main piece of advice is to make sure that you have a citation for every fact that you want to state about that person, since uncited facts will be removed. About Aali, Odisha

Hi MatthewV,
While this article is still live, you might want to check some of the data in {{Infobox settlement}}":
|native_name = Omm Shree Computers
While there does appear to be a business of that name relatively nearby, I doubt that this is that locality's name in Odia.

Draft Page Mantra - Sounds into Silence Film

re: Draft:Mantra - Sounds into Silence

Hi Matthew

You just reviewed a draft page for me. Appreciate the feedback.

Would really appreciate your suggestions on exactly how to request a writer here in the platform to pull this page to the point that it can be published. As a producer of this film I'm finding it very difficult to find a neutral path to creating an article on this film. Hitting some walls in here and there is the platform learning curve. I cant see a reason why it shouldn't have a page for information purposes. Many thanks for your help.

Original Psychonana (talk) 19:38, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Generally it is very hard for someone to write a neutral article on something they are part of promoting. See WP:COI. If the film is WP:N someone else will write it up. See WP:NFILM and the advice given the user on his talkpage Legacypac (talk) 20:58, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Hello @Original Psychonana: as said, it is really hard to get a neutral article from a non-neutral perspective. No guarantee this would work, but I suggest the optimal path would be to post a new section at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film and give them a link to your draft, let them know how you're involved and ask for an WPFILM editor to step in to help add enough neutrality to get it approved. If nobody bites, then you're still at an impasse, but if someone glances at your article and finds the film interesting, they may be willing to put in a little work to Neutral it up for you. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:51, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker), @Original Psychonana: One thing you could do is to upload a small version of the film poster using the FU rationale I posted on your talk page (must be uploaded on en-wiki, not Commons). At the moment, your article seems compliant apart possibly from notability and referencing issues that Matthew can help you with. I'd advise against trying to expand this yourself; the more you add, the more likely you are to run into trouble. In particular, anything that appears to be an opinion, rather than a hard fact, will be problematic. For example, you could give the cost of the film, with a ref, but not a comment on how well it was received. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:50, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jimfbleak Tried to upload new smaller poster file and it won't allow it... doesn't even get past the upload click, referring me to vague guidelines and saying the upload must be done on Wiki Commons. I'm giving up on trying to add the official poster for the film, life is too short, will leave that to another contributor if it every gets past this point. Cheers for following up. :) Original Psychonana (talk) 11:16, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your time MatthewVanitas - I made another pass at neutralizing the references, and found a few reviews that I hope add some missing Notability. Would appreciate it if you could flag (to me) anything that is a total no-no. There after I will attempt your suggestion re Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film Perhaps you can post some neutral support to help get some attention? BTW, I brought the draft article to the live help chat and suffered through that barrage of hostility, plenty in there are happy to tear you down without offering anything for you to build on. Will be avoiding that place in future. Trying to do the right thing here, but it's not easy. Thanks Original Psychonana (talk) 11:16, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Original Psychonana I'll reply to the upload question on your talk. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:42, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Nordiska Asa-samfundet

Hi there, I'm corious about who you are since you have written about us. You have some wrong facts about us, we are not ethnic for an exemple. And we were founded in 2014 and not 2013. Nordiska Asa-samfundet (talk) 22:31, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

@Nordiska Asa-samfundet: All I did was add a category for 2013 because the article a different editor wrote says 2013. If it was founded in 2014, provide a citation to prove that and make the correction yourself. If you look at the History tab o the page, you can see that someone else wrote the whole article, I just made a small format change afterwards. MatthewVanitas (talk) 22:57, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

I only put AllMusic as a web link so you could see what John Etchells has done in his career

I need more help in designing a page for John Etchells. His credits include Queen, Dire Straits, the members of Pink Floyd, and Beatle George Harrison! I know him personally because he produced my old band (Spectre) back in 1982. He is semi-retired, and deserves a page about his massive contributions to rock and pop music, etc.

Can you or someone help this page get created? Wikipedia was obviously designed for programmers to design pages, and not for creative artists, because it is entirely un-friendly, at least thus far in the process!

You declined my page because of the web link that I used, just to show you who Mr. Etchells was. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bennydabochi (talkcontribs) 03:08, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Hoping to be helpful I'll mention that AllMusic is considered a reliable source that is cited in many music related articles. (see WP:WikiProject_Albums/Sources comments regarding AllMusic) Gab4gab (talk) 04:34, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Request on 03:36:56, 9 February 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Fahrender Geselle

Hi Matthew. I have added 2 references as requested. This is my first wikipedia article and I am unsure of the process. As this movie does not seem to have had a general release in an English-speaking country, there is very little in the way of reviews that I can find, other than the 2 extra references I have added. There is more information in the Spanish-speaking press, but I am unsure if I should be referencing articles in Spanish in this page. I based my article on the Spanish language Wikipedia page (https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Techo_y_comida), if that is of any assistance in removing my submission from 'declined' status.

Fahrender Geselle (talk) 03:36, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

@Fahrender Geselle: it is totally fine to cite Spanish-language publications. Generally speaking, if a good-quality English source is available that proves the same fact, defer to the English one on en.wikipedia, but if a fact is best proven by a Spanish source, by all means cite that. Make sure you take a look at WP:Notability (film) to see what the benchmarks are for getting a film article approved.
You're on the right track, so just be patient, move with the learning curve, and don't be discouraged if it takes several cycles of submission and improvements until you get it passed. It is tricky to learn this stuff starting out, but you'll catch on fast. MatthewVanitas (talk) 04:25, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
@Fahrender Geselle:, you're pretty close to getting it right, so I went and approved it since the queue is backed up, but I suggest you do just a few improvements after reading WP:Notability (film) just to get it smoothed out. Nice work, and I bet your next article will be easier now that you've learned some of the process! MatthewVanitas (talk) 04:28, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

11:01:12, 9 February 2018 review of submission by Happywren

Hello Matthew. Thank you for reviewing my submission. Before deletion of Radmin article it has been presented on Wikipedia for several years. Then it was speedy deleted. I decided to update it and align with the new Wikipedia rules. I updated the resources and removed all descriptive and laudatory things, left only facts about the software. Could you help: in which direction to move now? How to improve? There are other similar articles on Wikipedia such as Teamviewer, Bomgar which are ok. I can add more authoritative resources as links:

What would you recommend, how to improve article and bring it to life again? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Happywren (talkcontribs) 11:17, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Happywren 12:53, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Hey @Happywren:, looking at the four items you give there, the TechRadar is the only useful one (as best as I can tell). The other two review websites seem to be fluff, "pay to play" or "generic listings and we sell ad space" kind of sites rather than serious news. And again, stuff on Radmin's own website can only be used for totally non-controversial things like "date founded", "location of HQ", etc. You cannot cite Radmin praising itself, promoting itself, etc. Along those lines, Press Releases count the same as being Radmin's own site; they're not a neutral observer's analysis, it's just the subject talking about itself.
As noted, section on "features" are almost always just advertising. We only care about a given feature if neutral sources are making a big deal about it. So you can cite off Radmin's website all day long about X, Y, and Z feature, but if nobody outside Radmin cares, neither do we. On the flipside, if Radmin's product has a "left handed bobble code" or whatever, and TechRadar and Business Times and Buzzfeed are all commenting "Wow, this LHBC from Radmin is really groundbreaking for ABC reasons, this really makes them stand out", then that would be worth putting in the article.

Dave Smith

Hi Matthew,

I'm David Smith. I will try to find sources for everything. I am legit as you will find out soon. Thank you!

Hello @Memberdj5: (Dave): the main thing is you want to read WP:Notability (people) which explains the level of sourcing and accomplishment required. For sourcing, basically you need to be able to tell what source proves any given sentence/paragraph, you can't simply put in things you happen to know personally.
Along those line, do I understand you're writing about yourself? If so, please read WP:Autobiography for what that's a bad idea. Wikipedia isn't FaceBook or LinkedIn, this is not a page for you, it is a page about you. So we don't allow advertising, promotion, etc. Also it's pretty darn hard to erase everything you know about yourself and write using only publicly available information. Fundamentally, you can't write a Neutral article about yourself, and Wikipedia lives on neutrality. I can't stop you, and thanks for being up-front about writing about yourself, but seriously do read the Autobio warning, since we've definitely had people excited to write about themselves only to realize that they have zero control over the page, anyone can edit it, and bad news and old scandals have a way of quickly showing up, and can't be removed if they are cited to proper sources. MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:28, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
@Memberdj5: please don't add evidence/sources here, add them at your Draft. You're not trying to convince me personally, you're trying to improve the Draft to the point where a neutral reviewer will approve it. MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:29, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks! nothing to hide! legit! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Memberdj5 (talkcontribs) 23:32, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

No worries, not accusing you of anything. Just noting that writing your own Autobio can really backfire. And again, for any fact you claim on the Draft, there needs to be a clear source, and the source can't be yourself, or a blog, or your Facebook, or whatever. It has to be serious outside coverage like news articles, etc. If you've received extensive news coverage for your work, you may indeed qualify for an article, though at the end of the day it's still hard and risky to write about yourself. But again, you don't need to convince me personally, you just need to bring the Draft up to snuff. MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:36, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Wednesday, February 14, 2018 review request of submission by Saranch Sajeevan

please review Draft:Parham_Ramezani , can these references can be treated as a legitimate source to approve the article, https://fashion.hellomagazine.com/fashion-news/201707257023/jenson-button-dogs-jewellery-launch/, https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/jenson-button-and-his-kerb-appeal-b5ffjpwng Saranch Sajeevan 11:18, 14 February 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saranch (talkcontribs)

Hello Saranch, you don't need to convince me, you need to add your additional sources to the article, and click Resubmit when you think you have improved the article enough. You don't have to read the whole policy, but you may find it useful to skim WP:Notability (companies) to see what the benchmark it. MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:22, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

Not a "Joke"

After further reading about Molossia, I was interested to find out how Molossia was able to win in the Micro Nation wars and what specific equipment they had or have. It took me 2 hours on February 9th to do the research. Many might find this as a joke because it is a weak army from a self-proclaimed micro nation in the U.S.

Thanks, UltraTank.MD — Preceding unsigned comment added by UltraTank.MD (talkcontribs) 15:46, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello UltraTank.MD there is a specific Wikia (unrelated to Wikipedia) for Micronation articles, you may want to post your work there since it uses the same coding as Wikipedia so you should be able to just copy-paste it.
The reason I have labeled your draft as a "joke" is because it treats what is essentially a personal prank or (at best) a "performance art piece" as an actual war. While micronations that have received significant media or academic coverage can indeed qualify for articles, we don't play along with their game/fantasy of pretending everything is Big and Serious when it involves like literally one person and a bar buddy of his declaring a "war".
