Welcome to WP:MILHIST!
Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you are interested, or you can add it directly to your user page by copying the following: {{WPMILHIST Announcements}}.
- Important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, writing contests, and article logistics.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- We've developed a style guide that covers article structure and content, template use, categorization, and many other issues of interest.
- If you're looking for something to work on, there are many articles that need attention, as well as a number of review alerts.
- The project has a stress hotline available for your use.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask any of the project coordinators or any other experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome, and we are looking forward to seeing you around! —Ed (talk • majestic titan) 02:09, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

I moved this from article space to the above location, as that was clearly where it belongs, and presumably where you intended it to be. I42 (talk) 17:06, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Hohenlohe Regiment
Mate, this article is looking good, well done! As I said in my edit summaries, you can't assess an article you've been involved in as B-Class or higher, you need to make an entry for it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Requests and someone will assess it for you (I think it has a decent shot at B-Class myself). Then when it's up to B, enter it into the next Monthly Contest (May), which someone will set up shortly. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 04:05, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
-
- Well thanks for the compliment. It was a bit of an adjustment when I realized that it is actually harder than I would have guessed to contribute to an article the right way, even if my approach to editing is very scatter shot.
review
I am double posting this here as you appear to be new user and it might be easier this way. I have assesed the article for B-class and unfortunately it does not yet meet the criteria for two reasons:
- You have two unsourced statements (look for the [citation needed])
- I would like some more information of what the regiment did during the French intervention (any battles?, cities taken?).
If you would like a reassesment please post on my talk page (or here) and I will have another look at the article. Also, feel free to bug me for any questions you might have Yoenit (talk) 10:40, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Douglasporch.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Douglasporch.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:22, 20 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 21:22, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of 21st Marching Regiment of Foreign Volunteers
The article 21st Marching Regiment of Foreign Volunteers has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No actual content. Articles need text, not just userboxes. If content added, remove warning.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Shadowjams (talk) 06:47, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Regarding the Foreign Legion
Hello LeonidasSpartan. I have two concern with your edits on Foreign Legion articles.
The first is about your addition of the Foreign Legion to the allegiance section of the infoboxes. As the allegiance section is mainly for units that are not a part of the regular armed forces of a sovereign state, I would like to know why you have added them to the Foreign Legio units that are a part of the regular armed forces of a sovereign state. Romantiscism and myth aside the Foreign legion is no different from the Troupes de marine or Chasseurs alpins execept the recruit foreigners instead of Frenchmen.
The second concern is your name change of the 13th Demi-brigade article. Your reason behinds this was stated as “More accurate name”. That might be true, but what is important on wikipedia for naming units are what the most common name in reputable historical works and that is the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade. Carl Logan (talk) 18:35, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
-
- First of all Carl, let me say that I have great respect for the work you have done on the French Foreign Legion in general. I feel that you are to be commended for it. That being said, to address your questions, I chose to to throw the allegiance section into the French Foreign Legion info boxes not due to any idea of romanticism or some misconceived notion that today their only loyalty is to the Legion itself (that is hardly the case), instead I chose to throw the allegiance section in there because from my readings, the French Foreign has despite its recent incorporation as an integral part of the French military, it became very clear to me that the French Foreign Legion is in many ways quite distinct from the French military as whole. It was the historical separation between the espirit du corp of the Legion and that of the French Army that I was trying to express there. I shall elaborate more tomorrow.07:16, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

GA review of Hohenlohe Regiment
Hi. I've reviewed the article on the Hohenlohe Regiment. The article leaves a number of questions unanswered; I've placed the nomination on hold. Magic♪piano 17:51, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Article review
I was wondering if you could fill out the B-class review template when you review articles - it's always useful to know what an independent reviewer thinks is needed to improve an article, especially in MILHIST, where the gap between a start-class article and a B-class article is so wide. Thanks for looking at the backlog. Acroterion (talk) 21:25, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. So once again, thanks for your support! --Diannaa TALK 02:28, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update. Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board. The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk. |

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
| Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

November 2010 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update. Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join! Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive. Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

GOCE Drive – Final push
Greetings GOCE Backlog elimination drive participant, We are now coming up to the last few days of the drive, the last for 2010. Currently, it looks like we will achieve our target for reducing the backlog by 10%, however, we still have huge numbers for 2009. We have 55 participants in this drive. If everyone just clears 2 articles each, we will reduce the backlog by a further 110 articles. If everyone can just do 3 articles, we will hit 165. If you have yet to work on any articles and have rollover words, remember that you do need to copyedit at least a couple of articles in this drive for your previous rollover to be valid for the next drive. There are many very small articles that will take less than 5-10 minutes to copyedit. Use CatScan to find them. Let's all concentrate our firepower on the first three months of 2009 as we approach the end of this final drive for the year. Thank you once again for participating, and see you at the finish line! – SMasters (talk) 04:06, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

I have substantially added to the article on Colonel Bernelle. I plan to add more on Colonel Conrad. I lack real depth in the background of the Carlist war, so I'd appreciate some review. V. Joe (talk) 05:05, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
GOCE drive update
| Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 54 people have signed up for the drive, and 33 are actively participating. If you signed up for the drive but have not participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We currently have 17 articles awaiting edit.
We are making slow progress on achieving our target of reducing the overall backlog by 15%; in order to accomplish this goal we will need to complete about 400 more articles. However, we are making good progress on the 2009 backlog, as we have eliminated over half of the articles from 2009 that were present at the start of the drive. Let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009; leaderboard awards will be handed out for 2009 articles this drive. Thank you for participating in the May 2011 drive. We hope it will be another success! Your drive coordinators – S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), Tea with toast, Chaosdruid, and Torchiest |

Re: milhist coords election
Hi LeonidasSpartan. I hope you don't mind me offering some friendly advice on a couple of things. Firstly, some people might regard this section of your userpage as canvassing (particularly the part of the message where you ask them to consider voting for you personally and link it to your section of the election page). Although something like a neutrally worded notice on their userpage is normally permitted if, say, an editor is running for adminship, Wikipedians in my experience are sensitive about anything that looks like campaigning. If you want a message there it might be best to keep it to a simple announcement that there's a milhist coord election underway and link to the page rather than any particular section. Secondly, thanking everyone who supports your candidacy can be counter-productive - it can give the appearance of being a bit too keen and actually put people off. I realise that you're probably just being polite, but you can guarantee there's always some who take things in the worst possible way! I hope you don't mind me butting in like this, but I don't want to see you fall foul of the last section of our coord election FAQ. Personally I think you'll make a good coord - I like the way you've answered the questions - and look forward to seeing you on the team. Best, EyeSerenetalk 16:10, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

I noticed your question to FRAM and I wanted to part my 2 cents as well. Personally, I would love for Wikipedia to haev these awards and I don't personally think its an issue of notability but of verifiability. I think that in many cases your going to have a tough time finding sources for many of them because even the states don't give very good guidance to their own members. You might want to bring the issue up at WikiProject Military history, and Orders and decorations. Historically though the general view is unfortunately that many of these are non notable and the general attitude is that all the colorful ribbons are a waste of space on articles. Not my opinion just the perception I haev seen. There is currently a discussion about military ribbons on the Military history talk page that relates as well that you might be interested in. --Kumioko (talk) 19:01, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 22
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited History of the French Foreign Legion, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Maximilian I (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
