Ironing jobs edit

Okay, just list them out in one place so I know what we've done and what's left to do:

Have I missed anything? Given everything above it, you can take your own sweet time going about that last one (assuming you're willing). —Quasirandom (talk) 19:43, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Crazy road map ;)
  • Aria (manga), i will probably do more translation works as there still reviews to be translated target is to push it GA, episodes list FL and chapters FL. Soundtracks well kicking it to B is already very unexpected to go further it would someone fluent in Japanese to track down additional material like interviews and podcasts.
  • Undercurrent (manga), potential DYK and class B. All we miss is the development part but some article can live with it like Azumanga. I will then translate it back to French wiki where it doesn't exist yet.
  • Natsume's Book of Friends, i still need to track down those Drama CD refs or else it will never get B regardless effort in every others part of the article.
  • Boku wa Imōto ni Koi o Suru, i want to thanks you for that one as i'm dragging you on something that should not be your concern. The plan simple after-copy edit done we drop the plate to Collectionian and run as far as we can.
  • Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl, After copy-editing the stuff, the hardest will be to convince Juhachi that adding some elements of those reviews won't hurt the article. I guess you read my tired rant on this article discussion page?
    • Did I ever say the reviews would "hurt" the article? I never thought that; quite the contrary, any reliable review will be good, but how much is added in to a single review is the concern I was addressing. In the end, I'm usually too lazy to add in additional reviews after an article's reception section has reached a large enough size. There is no "convincing" that needs to be done here; I hold no preconceptions of article ownership.-- 19:34, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
      • Laughing a bit :) Na nothing against you or ownership issue but courtesy requires that we reach consensus on "we are not going to screw up a GA article by adding additional stuffs". Any lingering belief that it may unbalances the article is bound to bring troubles later. Plus i must also get used to collaborate with you so i may be overly cautious --KrebMarkt 19:47, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
        • Okay, now it's my turn to laugh inwardly. Courtesy...now that's a word I have not seen on Wikipedia in a long time. It's been so long, I had to laugh at myself. But that's a good thing to keep in mind; more editors should follow that example.-- 01:50, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Bunny Drop, Translation duty + i must think my rational on why a regional cultural generalist website is RS to review a manga.
Yeah, I read the Kashimashi rant -- hadn't been up for replying myself. After working out what's useful, I'm likely to add whatever possible anyway. As for Aria, the entire Reception section needs revamping, to pull things I stuffed in the quote= fields into the main text -- I just haven't felt up to the job for a while. (I've got a pile of those in my sandbox.) —Quasirandom (talk) 20:37, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I will give a shot myself the refs revamping for Aria articles that would free you more for what you are the best "Stylish & quality editing" ;)
For my rant, i do translations and people are free to use them or not as they please. I don't bear grudge that only made me more selective for which article i will translate French materials. You can't help people against themselves. --KrebMarkt 21:09, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Worth merging? edit

Should we merge Azumanga Daioh Original Soundtrack, Volume 1 and Azumanga Daioh Original Soundtrack, Volume 2 to Azumanga Daioh#Soundtracks, with a collapsing tracklist? —Quasirandom (talk) 14:23, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Better merge into Azumanga Daioh Soundtracks and expand with the others released CDs. The current Azumanga Daioh#Soundtracks section is dense as plutonium with for each sentence the double in citation & reference. I find this section indigestible :(

:For UK release, for what i can remember the news of the English re-licensing started from an UK blog/website with a Yen press staff member interview or indiscretion. Commentators discussed afterward of a possible UK release prior a North America one.

List of Azumanga Daioh soundtracks? We really need to hammer out proper naming conventions for these things... =P ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 18:58, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
That was just a suggestion of name like Azumanga Daioh discography :p --KrebMarkt 19:08, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
How many different naming styles do we have examples of? List of Air soundtracks, Death Note original soundtracks, Discography of FLCL, List of Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! albums, List of Haruhi Suzumiya character song singles, List of Hayate the Combat Butler character song albums, Kimagure Orange Road CD List, List of Suzuka music, List of music from Di Gi Charat, My-HiME soundtracks, Robotech music, Rozen Maiden Drama CDs, Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase CD collections - it seems most of them are variations of "List of X [soundtracks/albums]", and a good part of the problem, I think, lies in the fact that the lists can cover one or several of multiple closely related media types. Actually, out of that whole list, I'm probably most partial to "Discography of X" - don't ask me why. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 19:27, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
This is madness, No this is Animanga :p
Need to reach a consensus on how to handle animanga music and not just the spin-out article name but set of guidelines on when to spin-out a list, when to spin-out a single or album apart and their contents. The one to raise the issue is most likely the one to be bestowed the honorable duty fix those article. So everyone are artistically side steeping with that issue. The are probably more soundtracks & soundtracks lists articles than list of episodes or list of chapter out there. --KrebMarkt 20:39, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's probably why no one wants to confront the issue. Poking through the category is on my to-do list, and one of these days, I think, I'm going to force the issue at WT:ANIME to finally get all this stuff worked out. ;P Other than that, I've been adding lists to the cat as I find/think of them; haven't bothered much with individual albums/soundtracks/CDs/whatever though. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 21:13, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yikes, that's a lot of name patterns in use there. To be honest, I'm not sure which one(s) to use. Given that non-franchise lists (that is, the releases of a musical artist) tend to not be called a list, but rather a discography, I'm kinda inclined to follow their lead. But -- and but.
If you guys open a discussion in WT:ANIME, I'll do my best to contribute meaningfully. —Quasirandom (talk) 21:19, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have no definitive plans of starting such a discussion (as in, no set timeline), but it's something I'll ask about *eventually*, unless someone beats me to it. In the meantime, I've been busy elsewhere recently. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 21:42, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

<outdent>

I know that i will be eventually be drafted into an animanga soundtracks taskforce but fixing soundtracks is very time consuming. We are going to talk a lot to reach a guideline + MoS. People will scream Creep because we will have a specific MoS but we are not talking about an artist but a franchise and rarely byproducts can be that successful see K-ON#Reception. --KrebMarkt 22:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Some prospective because i feel like it tonight, too talkative but that the longest discussion thread i had in my talk page ever :p
Animanga has roughly 5 types of lists
  1. List of chapters & volumes
  2. List of anime episodes
  3. List of characters
  4. List of soundtracks (or whatever you call it)
  5. List of drama CDs
Out of the 5, we managed to make FL out of 3 of them. The fourth is class B at the highest and if you read my above comment doing a list of Drama CDs is no more an impossibility because people started to fansub them (extremely doubtful that publishers will license them) and i discussed with Dinoguy1000 a template variant to handle them. I excluded radio CDs because they are not notable as a list.
I hope someone someday will do a Big Five with one FL/FA in each category. --KrebMarkt 22:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
You are nothing if not ambitious. —Quasirandom (talk) 14:35, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Shaman Warrior edit

Hey KrebMarkt, if you're looking for a bit of a change of pace, would you mind looking into creating an article on the Shaman Warrior manhwa? There seem to be plenty of English reviews ([1][2][3], just from the first page of G-hits), and according to the back cover, it's one of the top five best-selling Korean epics of all time, and has apparently won the Korean Culture & Content Agency's 2006 "Best Manhwa of the Year" award (both highly suggestive that there's plenty more coverage in Korean). I also have a chapter list for it at User:Dinoguy1000/Redlink series chapter lists (though I still need to add the first four volumes, and I can't seem to find the series on Haksan's website). Alone in My King's Harem edit

I've only been able to find another review by Ed Chavez for MangaCast, which doesn't seem to be online any more. It's of an age to be in Manga: The Complete Guide, but apparently that doesn't count much towards notability. But on the upside, her My Only King may be notable... --Malkinann (talk) 23:51, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah, righto. There's also this from the yaoi review LJ of Snow Wildsmith, a librarian who writes for the School Library Journal and Graphic Novel Reporter. Episode Number edit

Thanks. I didn't know that. For long running series I can see that happening since you don't really know how many are going to be set in the first place (i.e Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, they go on forever...). Most of the articles I have worked on which have a "definite" set of episodes for the season, the number of those planned were set in the infobox since there isn't any reason to keep adding +1 to the number every week the studio already is telling you 'x' amount will be aired ^^; Changes would be made if something drastic like the anime suddenly got cut. Additional episodes revealed on DVD would also change the number, which happens every now and then. Thanks for the info though. Fox816 (talk)

Merger edit

By the way, did you see the merger tags I placed on the article and list pages? I would like some feedback so depending on the decision we can leave it be or I can go ahead and REDIRECT and transfer all the info to the main article. Personally, I think a separate list isn't necessary. We can fit everything into the main as some other established articles have done so given their number of episodes. Orchestra credits and more edit

Sorry if I'm being a bother, but do you think we should use orchestra credits at all in the list of nge albums (not just in that list but in other lists as well? i mean i tihnk of it as any other movie credits or game credits. what do you think?Bread Ninja (talk) 22:25, 24 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Took my time to make an answer. I think that what you are writing is an hybrid article between WP:ALBUM and WP:DISCOG, you can't manage every aspects of both so you have to make cuts somewhere. Now what's highly debatable is where you draw the line.
Personally, i'm in this case for a strict interpretation of Verifiability policy. Meaning not asserted with a Reliable Source not in the article. However i can live with the article full of unsourced stuffs because my responsibility doesn't go this far.
Bottom line do what you want but don't expect me to be happy or coming to rescue if you start put a lot of unsourced stuffs which could be removed on sight because those unsourced facts are most likely related to BLPs. --KrebMarkt 14:45, 25 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: List of Fullmetal Alchemist chapters edit

I knew ISBN-13 format is acceptable, it just seems silly to me to use the one that isn't used on the publisher's website. Every other article I've encountered has had the so-called "official" ISBN from the publisher's site (and Viz only lists the ISBN-10 and not the ISBN-13). Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

translation check, please? edit

Hey, thanks for keeping your cool with Tim. I've recently been working on translating fr:Nausicaä (personnage) to the equivalent page Nausicaä (character). (at some point, they translated the English edition into French, too, lol). I've only really gotten up to the profil section on the French page, but it would be a huge confidence boost if you could please read the French page, then read the English page, and see if I've made any big mistakes? This is what the English page looked like before I started translating, if that helps. --Malkinann (talk) 20:25, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - I was a bit afraid that I'd filled the article with errors, and I'm glad that you think the translation is okay. :) I'm also trying to keep to the MOS-AM, which I always find confusing. Is assorted a better word? I had thought the general sense was that proto-Nausicaa had a father who was sick. Is it in the sense of 'saddled with the burden of a sick father', or 'her father travels with her'? --Malkinann (talk) 21:51, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Category:Highschool of the Dead edit

If you disagree with my creation of the above category, you should take it to WP:CFD, not remove it from articles. Personally, I believe it aids in navigation, and that four pages (main, charlist, chaplist, eplist) is sufficient for a category, but you are of course welcome to nominate it for deletion anyway. --erachima talk 07:05, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

"Production" is an ill-defined category, and I agree that not everything I've organized into that section should remain there as the article is improved. However, I believe that we cannot allow the thought of eventual perfection to get in the way of present acceptability, and that it is important that pages be presented in readable form even early in their development.
In other words, I am opposed to excessively sectioning the article at this point as it makes it difficult to read, and agree that once we have more content it should be split up more accurately. --erachima talk 07:36, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'd also like to note that I find your suggestion that we "agree to disagree" somewhat disconcerting, because we haven't even attempted listening to each other's opinions yet. You effectively telling me I can do whatever I want is, of course, an attractive option, but I'd much rather hear what you think and see if any of it is sensible. --erachima talk 07:59, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well i don't read Japanese so i won't get you a clear answer here
Facts:
  • No news about it from amano centric scans
  • No news about it from my animelist or animesuki
  • No news about it if you search 天野こずえ in Google news
  • Vol. 3 is scheduled for August 10, 2010
  • Comic Blade issue #7 2010 Amanchu on cover but no Amanchu new chapter if you check the table of content for あまんちゅ!
  • Comic Blade issue #8 2010 No Amanchu new chapter

Amanchu is de-facto on hiatus why and for how long i can't answer based on the facts managed to collect as someone who don't read Japanese. --KrebMarkt (talk) 21:20, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jyukai edit

You might be correct in that indie bands don't usually do anime themes, but there's a lot more anime than what gets seen outside of Japan, and even most major bands don't have the themes they do noted as such unless somebody has put it in someplace. So trying to prove that indie bands do or don't do themes is just about impossible. My main contention, however, was that the claims that met notability were unsourced, so as long as that has been addressed, there's no need to prod the main article. MSJapan (talk) 20:37, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Where did you get the sales figures from? There aren't any on the Oricon site, and TBH, if total album sales were under 1000, that's pretty bad. I also note that they're playing indie festivals and venues, so is Geneon still a major label like Pioneer was? MSJapan (talk) 19:07, 15 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Many salutations!!! I verily appreciate your commendation of my handiwork in doing away with the anime subsection on The Qwaser of Stigmata; I figured that the article would look better and make more sense with that change -- especially since I was working on an episode synopsis page that mostly applies to the anime. At any rate, I am grateful for the positive acknowledgment (^_^).

. . . edit

Uh, excuse me, but I need this explained to me:

Use of tables are for those who suck at English prose writing. Yes Wikipedia prefers proses instead of tables.

If you have not already guessed, I have taken great umbrage at this remark. I have the capability to write English prose as I have demonstrated on throughout my time as a Wikipedia editor. I exerted a significant effort to configure the table code so that it appears the way I want it. If there is data about the soundtracks that I have forgotten to include when I initially coded the table such as the catalog designation, that could have been added into the *Performance Parameter* column where appropriate and it would have worked really well.

WT:MOS-JA edit

I've elaborated on my reasoning based on your response. The tilde is not going to be made the only exception to the rule. I also don't know what Dears has to do with the discussion. Capitalization is not the issue at hand. It's that the colon and parentheses to designate other parts of the title of media do not accurately reflect the name of the subject of the article.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 22:35, 24 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I see. The proposal is to end the deprecation of all such typographies. The use of the tilde as a designator of a portion of a song's full title (whether or not that is actually the subtitle of the song) is merely an example being used. Something like ~cohana~ would be ~Cohana~ if there is a consensus to change.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 07:49, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Major problems edit

I realize you don't like NGE, but i've been trying to find some way to edit those articles into a more nuetral POV. after discussing with gwern about removing the over usage of block quotes. she revealed she doesn't care about making these articles up to GA rank, GA doesn't symbolize the quality of the article and that she admits the articles are different from the rest (in a good way) that they are more "artistic" and "commericalized". this really, puts a dent to the series, and i've been trying to summarize the trivia in them for a while. You would be doing me a huge favor if you helped me out and find a way to get these articles to a better prose.Bread Ninja (talk) 00:18, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fan Websites -- A special one. edit

I just wanted to leave a comment on you Talk page. When you discussed your logic not to list the site in the article, www.lostpropertyofthesky.com -- because it was a fan web site and, as you state, "...what would happen if 20 other fan websites wanted to be listed as well? ". I agree with you *but* I cannot find not one other fansite that, 1. Says it is official, 2. Has streaming rights with both a US company CrunchyRoll and the original rights holder for the first season.

Therefore, in my mind, this site is an exception and it appears that they take the fact that they are "Official" to the extreme. You will not even find one ad on their site, not even a donate link, which is more that I can say for Wikipedia. I assume this to done not because they are stupid or rich but to live up to the statement on the homepage of: http://www.lostpropertyofthesky.com which states the only goal that they have in mind, to promote the show. The thing that comes close to an ad is the link back to the CR site.

Still my opinion that this fansite is special and not just a normal fan site and it should be listed as an external site link.

Josei edit

Neat. :D My understanding is that there is very little available on josei manga - there may be an introduction in Manga: The Complete Guide. User:Matt_Thorn/Sandbox_3 may be useful, as it has some citations and general thoughts from Matt Thorn and Timothy Perper. User:JRBrown seems very well informed about yaoi, so perhaps she has read something more on josei. --Malkinann (talk) 21:46, 14 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

English-language josei sources I have come across below. I have (or can get) PDFs of most of these, if you can't. Most are older and focus on the more sexually-oriented "ladies' comics" subgenre rather than the modern josei category. There are also a few articles that deal specifically with individual works (not listed, but I can add them if you like).

  • Fusami Ogi, 2003: Female Subjectivity and Shoujo (Girls) Manga (Japanese Comics): Shoujo in Ladies' Comics and Young Ladies' Comics, Volume 36, Issue 4, pages 780–803

References edit

I've become interested lately in the inactivity of editors and failure to incorporate new content, and I've been compiling a list of all my edits to talk pages listing new content for inclusion (especially edits where I supply both the link and the relevant excerpts).

While doing so, I remembered/noticed your own edits in that vein. Have you compiled a similar list besides your contributions page or kept any track of how many of your such edits ever lead to any changes in the respective article? --Gwern (contribs) 17:48 21 August 2011 (GMT)

Thought you'd like to know: I've finished my program for checking this. The results were pretty much as I expected from eyeballing the edits: of your last 958 edits (Dec 2010-Dec 2011), only 119 pages (<=12%) now include a link from that edit.
And this is an overestimate because my script checks whether any URL in your edit is now linked in the article, which means there will be duplicates inflating the tally. See http://www.gwern.net/In%20Defense%20Of%20Inclusionism#the-editing-community-is-dead-who-killed-it for the full write-up.
In the future, maybe you shouldn't bother adding the references to the Talk pages, but just add them to the External Links; then at least the readers can visit them. --Gwern (contribs) 23:20 21 December 2011 (GMT)

The first volume has been published in English, I noticed, with an ANN review and has hit the top 10. I count another 3 or 4 reviews or news articles in my CSE (although the hits are inflated by ANN's auto-snippeting functionality, which should go away in a week or two; but easy to filter with an additional search term like -"has immense popularity in Japan").

You could probably get it undeleted now, or at least soon as the volumes and reviews presumably keep coming out. --Gwern (contribs) 16:10 21 December 2011 (GMT)
