Request for future FAC

hey, KnightLago, I'm thinking of taking another article, Operation Tractable, for FAC in mid-to-late summer, and I'd prefer to make this one less strenuous than the FAC for Battle of Verrieres Ridge was (just as an aside, Tractable passed GAN on June 16, passed ACR on June 25, is currently submitted for PR & a Copyedit from the MILHIST Logistics Department). If you have time, would you be able to look over the prose and leave some notes on the talk-page on what needs to be improved, seeing as you're probably the best person to spot and/or fix the errors that appeared in my last FAC nomination? Captain Flame Guy concerns

I only wish that I did, KL. This is a typical example of his naming conventions. It's almost as if he's free-associating a name and tagging it with "guy." Of all the users who've ever ended their accounts with "Guy," virtually all are his. If it is MascotGuy, he's been caught. That means he'll likely abandon the account. If he does edit, he'll edit on subjects having to do with children's subjects, fast food or whatever strikes his fancy. Reasons You Deleted My User Page?

You deleted my user page at User:EDDMedDirApp . Could I understand why? Many Wikipedians have extensive user pages that give detailed information about themselves, such as User:Bearcat , User:Blofeld of SPECTRE , and User:Slambo . I had only one sentence with two bullets. The page says "In general, this page should be created and edited by User:EDDMedDirApp." If the deletion was in error, could you please restore the page? Ice Cream

thank you for leading me to the page on soapbox and advertising,etc. It just doesn't seem fair that there is an entire section for ice cream brands..which are linked to their websites also a list of dairy product companies...which are linked to websites and I am not allowed to post this new dairy product company.

I really wanted to get info out about this new gelati company...it has helped many in my family enjoy ice cream again because of our problems with chrones disease and lactose intolerance.

Can you explain.

University of Florida classes EAS 4200c and EML 4500

Hello KnightLago, thanks for sticking up for us until we could explain what was going on. It seems as though my professor hasn't yet realized you all would like to hear from, so I figured I'd do a little explaining to start us off.

Orange Mike is somewhat correct: we were going to use our user namespaces to post our homework solutions and the class notes in order to be graded and reviewed. This is obviously against WP policy, as I have come to read, so it would probably not be allowed. However, the work we would be doing is on Aerospace Structures and (in the other class) Finite Element Analysis.

Much of the work that would be posted and much of the notes that would be written would pertain to these two topics. From this information, the articles containing subjects that coincide with our two courses would only benefit. As for getting around the aforementioned policy on user namespaces, I'm not sure how that could be arranged.

Please let me know if you have any questions on my talk page (this, my normal WP account).

As of now, I'm not thinking that we're going to be improving WP pages to any degree, but mainly posting homework and notes. Re: Indiana Wesleyan University

I'm washing my hands of it. It is truly an example of the worst behavior on Wikipedia. I added a completely sourced section to an article, making numerous changes to deal with issues raised by other editors. It became clear that they simply do not wish to have the information known, rather than a desire to fashion a good article. My sources speak for themselves, the other editors have not done anything other than to delete sourced material. In the end, I am forced to allow them to shout down the information they wish to hide. Rob Enderle -- BLP -- editing question

I am new to editing on Wikipedia and was hoping you could please provide some guidance on editing this article? I had added several details previously, but when I did that, I was told that the formatting from the original article was lost, although I had tried to follow the posted guidelines. Where this article is now short, if I add the details I had previously, am I starting from scratch (meaning, there's no formatting I could be potentially changing)? After some modification of the proposal, which was then rolled back, there has not been any more activity over the last 4 days, so I wonder whether it's time to unprotect. Please have a look. Admin coaching request

Wanted to see if you were available for admin coaching. I'm an older guy, been here over 2 years, almost 8k edits, no issues. (my user page has actual info on me). I have requested a coach via the regular process, which also recommended contacting an available coach personally. Protection on Kaveh Farrokh

Hi -- I'd like to know how you think this dispute can be resolved. I know about 'the wrong article' argument, but I think we have a problem here. The protected version calls the subject an "expert in the field of Iranian history and linguistics" on the strength of a story on the Voice of America website. The talk page puts forward two main points against this:
1. It isn't normal for a Wikipedia article to label someone an expert in the lead. Eg. Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, Samuel Eliot Morison, etc.

2. The subject may have written 2 books on Iranian history, but he has no qualifications in history – or linguistics. Only one (recent) review in the academic journals,[1] an M.A. in "Patterns of adjustment of international students to the University of British Columbia", and a PhD in "The relationships among cognitive processes, language experience and errors in Farsi speaking ESL adults." He works as a college counsellor. He's written on article on dyslexia, but none of this is linguistics.

Another problem is the second sentence -- "He has written and lectured on linguistics" – I can't find a reliable source for this and it either should have a fact tag or be removed. Even his web site doesn't make this claim. [2] (note it does say he is a learning psychologist, which I think is correct as his PhD was in the appropriate department ).

Those who want the edit to stay are content with the protected version and have no reason that I can think of to take any action to settle the dispute. Those who think that there are no reliable sources for the claims are faced with an article which isn't, in my opinion and that of others, up to Wikipedia standards. Hello! Just letting you know that I reverted your good faith edits to the article for a few reasons:

1. The notable achievements section establishes notability through awards won or notable corporations created per WP:N (although it could be put better in prose per WP:MOS.
2. The Berwyn Heights Raid is inappropriate to be included in the article as it is irrelevant to Jackson personally and would be better suited in the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office article which already has a lengthy subsection as well as its own article. Yes, I agree that Jackson is in command of every event that happens within the office, however you have to admit that the way it was written it was more like a stereotypical liberal social commentary (almost a parody) than an encyclopedia article. In fact, at first glance, it seemed as though an inexperienced IP editor had come through and started a POV-pushing subsection. Needless to say, I was quite surprised (and disappointed) to see that it was someone that should know quite better. I placed this here instead of the talk section because I think that this is something that the general public shouldn't have to read, considering your position in Wikipedia (analogous to taking someone to the side for a bit of constructive criticism instead of throwing someone under the bus in front of his/her peers). The comparison with Janet Reno is a bit of a stretch (to say the least). That incident encompassed 51 days, wide-spread (live) media coverage, and many, many human deaths. The Berwyn Heights incident took place within a matter of a few chaotic minutes that no one except for the mayor, his wife, mother, and the law enforcement on the scene actually witnessed. I have been in law enforcement for many years and know quite well that things can go sour very, very quickly and we make the best split-second decisions that we can considering the situation. And everyone monday-morning quarterbacks everything, not knowing the facts or even having a common frame of reference. We as Wikipedians should hold ourselves to a higher standard. Despite the cynicism that inherently plagues most law enforcement/military people, I have always been of the opinion that people are inherently good and are not the monsters that the media makes them out to be. I also believe that there are two sides to a story. The Sheriff wasn't there. The media wasn't there. I wasn't there. You weren't there. The media's ratings go up when the big, bad police shoot innocent little puppies that are only trying to "lick them" (as was reported by several media outlets in the area). Stepping from my soapbox, I think that it is inappropriate to have the section in the article about Jackson. A link in the see also section is appropriate. At best, a (very) pithy mention is warranted with an internal link to the main article. I (sincerely) apologize in advance if I sound like I am chastising you. I am just very disappointed that an experienced administrator would write in such a way. I will leave the rest of the changes to you. I trust your judgment and will not undo or change anything more that you write. Let me start by saying I accept your chastisement. After re-reading the section I can tell you it is not my best work. My attention was divided when I wrote that and I had just finished reading a very sympathetic article. I believe those factors influenced my writing. I am not comparing the nature of the incidents in regard to Reno, as you pointed out they are vastly different. I was just drawing a comparison in that she was in charge of an incident and later had to deal with it. Maybe my analogy is poor. After looking at the article again I think this deserves a sentence in the article and nothing more as he did have to deal with the aftermath. I would appreciate your help in coming up with a suitable sentence. On another note, I wrote FAU's article. You could show your dad and let me know what he thinks. Thanks for the kick in the pants. Regarding your comment, but I believe these university FAs have image permission problems:

• File:Nlchtownes.jpeg on Duke University. Source: [3] and copyright claim: [4]
• File:DanielWebster DartmouthCollegeCase.jpg at Dartmouth College is a borderline fair use justification as there is no commentary on the work itself, it is used merely as an illustration
• File:VGSOM IITKGP.jpg at Indian Institutes of Technology has no permission information
• File:RedBlackCap.jpg, File:Sherwood.JPG, and File:Kheli.jpg at Ohio Wesleyan University have no source or permissions information
• File:Oriel Boss.jpg and File:Oriel College Feathers.jpg at Oriel College, Oxford are likely trademarked and used without permission

King Kong Defense

If you could give it more time, I would be much obliged. I would agree with you 100% if they just referenced it a few times, but this was the *headline* of pretty much all the news posts. It would say things like "TPB uses King Kong Defense" etc. I think the terminology is going to become part of people's lexicon. Furthermore, not only does that wiki page show the quote, but it also explains the circumstances surrounding the quote and the purpose of the quote. I started the article with a few sentences and then requested that people on #spectrial on twitter help with its expansion and people took it to heart, filling the article with all the relevant information about it. Its also been linked to by TorrentFreak and a few other well respected blogging networks. Just look at the page, a mojority believe that it should be kept and not merged or deleted. re: Your nomination of King Kong defense

I'm concerned that your nomination wording may have the backfire effect of attracting angry defenders of Pirate Bay and everything it stands for. Saying that the article is "pure Pirate Bay POV" is skirting the bounds of good faith assumption, even if you're right. There are a host of more objective reasons to want this article deleted or merged, that might not garner quite as much of a defensive response as we're getting now. I wonder if you'd consider amending, or even replacing your current wording in the nom.
