Vandalism of Turkish Music Pages

Some persons are trying to falsely promote Arabic culture by vandalising Turkish music pages, of artists such as Tarkan, Sezen Aksu, Sertab and Mustafa Sandal by trying to create a whole new category of music in Turkish when no musicologist or encyclopedia verifies this - namely the "category" Arabesque-pop music. Please check the history - I have tried to fix it but the culprit still keeps reverting. He also tries to place Turksh pop performers as part of this fake genre. Arabesque music with pop influence is called Arabsque-fantazi (Fantasy) and none of the pop musicians named above are categorised in the fanatsy genre of Arabesque music. 82.145.231.188 14:27, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Mani Damodara Chakyar

HI kappa, Thanks for your help regarding the foto and article on Mani Damodara Chakyar. I had taken that foto and i am ready to allow for public usage of that foto. i dont know about websites but you can check the book - Manimadhaveeyam- (biography of Mani Madhava Chakyar)published by Dept. of Cultural Publications, Govt. of Kerala, regarding him. I will submit more informations regarding that great artist soon. I saw so many things are not in a good form in Kudiyattam sites so i wanted to update that thru wikipedia(i am myself is a kudiyattam artist and received scholarship for more than 10 years from Sangeet Natak Academy( Govt. of India ).Please advise me in helping the foto to be viewed by everyone. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fippy Darkpaw

Re. your comments in the above discussion. Personally I believe that the bloat caused by articles like the above is a much bigger threat in the long term to the health and survival of Wikipedia than the deletion would be. As for the storage cost, yes it's negligable for one article, but in the end it will add up if you take the sum of all useless articles. Hirudo 01:58, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Also, as a more general remark. Your comment "If people aren't using it, it has nothing but a neglible cost of storage. If people are using it, they are getting more value from wikipedia and are more likely contribute their own time, money and real information" seems to indicate to me that you disagree with having notability guidelines at all. After all, if someone adds an article about his garage band, it's always possible that his neighbour is going to come look for it, right? Or do you just think the guidelines need to be relaxed ? • The appropriate guideline is whether or not there is a significant audience for the information, whether it's a game character, a band, a TV show or anything else. Clothing bin

Why the preference for the stub now that's been transwikied? A stub is supposed to be used for articles that have realistic potential to be expanded. Do you really think clothing bin will be expanded beyond a dictdef? I'm also not sure it qualifies as a tool stub. It's a container. • It's not obvious to me that wiktionary will accept an entry on "clothing bin" because it isn't an idiom, it's simply "clothing" + "bin". Also any wiktionary entry would not discuss the dimensions and construction of a clothing bin, or how they are vandalized, or the fact that homeless people sometimes sleep in them. If you feel there is a more suitable stub category than tool-stub, please restub it. Also please don't use {{wi}} tags when there isn't actually a wiktionary in existence. • I agree with Kappathat that New Age Festivals are notable, and if appropriate, would invite other new age festival organizers to also include their links to make it a more balanced category (I am fairly new to Wikkipedia, and do appreciate any pointers - let me know if this is appropriate. I do have a personal interest in seeing this category gaining acceptance, and have provided some links such as categories associated and cities that host the festivals included in Wikipedia. Halton Youth Symphony

I wrote the article due to informational purposes only- I'm an actual member of the symphony, and I know for a fact that the website does not have any sort of copyright whatsoever. I have asked our manager myself, and the site's information is free for use. The information copied from there is completely legal, as you will be able to see when you visit the website. • Well, I can't see anything on the site which says it has no copyright. According to Wikipedia:Copyright_problems the best thing is for the your manager to "Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions at wikimedia dot org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation." In the meantime you can put this message on the discussion page of the article and under the HYS' listing at Wikipedia:Copyright_problems. If you want to edit the page to a previous version I won't revert it but I don't know what anyone else will do. Templemore Sports Complex

It's a municipal sports complex. Would you like me to add all the public swimming pools I can name to Wikipedia? Anyway, the article had nothing to merge -- I can think of only one sentence that merited a merge (which was unverifiable; a Google turned up nothing to back up the assertion that the "compy" has an Olympic-class swimming pool), and I've already expanded the complex's entry in Derry with verifiable information.   • The article said noting about notable athletes training there nor the hosting of international events. The notable events it mentioned like the Woodbrook Championships turn up absolutely nothing on Google. Here is the article as it stood after SeanMack "removed rubbish" (as he said in his edit summary):

The Templemore Sports Complex (affectionately known as the 'compy') is situated ten minutes from the Derry/Donegal border. Founded in 1972, it offers affordable and/or cheap sporting resources for the local people of Derry in particular the people of the Glengalliagh/Shantallow area. Such resources include an olympic-sized Swimming pool, a fully-serviced gym and several indoor tennis courts.

The complex has hosted many championships and events over the years such as the Milk cup and the Woodbrook championships.

If you really think this indicates notability, bring it up on DRV. Even the official Derry websites I've visited (who would have the most to gain from exaggerating any notability) mention nothing about prominent athletes training there, nor any prominent sporting events (besides a boxing tournament which we don't have an article about). Those Korean movie stubs really had no content. As I told RxStrangelove, they consisted of nothing more than "So-and-so is a 19xx South Korean film." I don't wish to cause hard feelings, as you know. Hello Kappa,

I recently received notice from you on not making StarCraft into a game guide. Does that mean I should quit my project and roam elsewhere on WP for something to do? So far the few people who looked at my article have said that it's good, and now I'm getting nervous. I have done way too much to get all of my articles, my template and even a buddy's StarCraft images deleted, and yet I still think that there is much more for me to do- too much for me to quit now. Am I going in the wrong direction? If I am, I am willing to modify the articles to reflect the wishes of the WP community.

• I can see you are making good articles, and I would hate to see them deleted. The fact that they are well-written makes them less likely to be nominated, although some of them do contain statements that look more like advice than explanations. Note that separate items often end up merged into lists (e.g. Minor Slytherins), it might be wise to do this pre-emptively. Also if you do want to make a game guide, you might want to look at wikicities or somewhere - wikibooks used to do games, but I heard that Jimbo doesn't approve. Kappa 14:58, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Talk: Description

Thanks for the taking the time to attempt to explain why the policies and guidelines here are widely ignored. I'm afraid I do not agree with your assessment concerning consistency, policies and guidelines; however, I do appreciate the civil tone that you kept the conversation. In my business policies and guidelines are vital. Lack of consistency in following them could have devastating effects eventually. My obervations in life are that this model tends to hold true in most, if not all, things. I'm certainly not disputing the need for judgement calls. They are useful while you are devising policies and guidelines.

Unfortuantely, a definition is a definition. Your judgement, my judgement, and Fred Flintstone's judgement isn't going to change what a definition is. Somebody at one time made the decision that Wikipedia was not going to be a dictionary; however, lack of consistency in enforcing this has caused a lot of definitions to find a home in Wikipedia.

Anyway, I am ranting more than I really wanted to here. I really just wanted to thank you for your civility and your explanations. I'm afraid I you and I are going to have to agree to disagree.

BTW, I have to remain consistent with my own actions; therefore, I plan on nominating the article for AfD. I know it seems ridiculous since you and I both know what the outcome is. But as I said, consistency is better than better.

Hello, Kappa! just thought I'd ask... regarding that {{prod}} tag; wouldn't one become, uhm, just a wee bit suspicious :) about a Monsieur who says he is a business school professor but doesn't appear on the staff list, who says he is an author of five books, all in French... after the French fellas have had the article about him deleted? Bref, les livres publiés doivent, de préférence être publiés chez de grands éditeurs. Pour les scientifiques et les théoriciens, les livres doivent réellement faire référence.

Copyvio tags

Hi. I notice you've tagged a lot of the pages created by user:Apcbg with copyvio tags. Just to let you know that the copyvio problem with pages by that user has been resolved - see various article talk pages, and his user page, where permission has been given. I am in the process of copyediting the pages into a consistent wiki form, but given the quantity its going to take a while. Is there an easy way to get the tags removed from all of the relevent articles? Otherwise there is a risk that some will be deleted before I get to them (also that would save burdening the copyvio list with these articles which is likely to lead to duplication as people investigate some of them). • OK, I'm removed the tag from all the articles I placed it on (I hope). I think the author has claimed permission on all of the talk pages, so they should not be automatically deleted anyone going through the copyvio list.     I'm not sure how I could argue otherwise. He's quite evidently an involuntary, limited-purpose, deeply-unfortunate public figure, based on extensive rehashing of his case in the public eye. Or did you mean that only the media can create public figures? That'd be a bit elitist of us as journalists, no? As for laughing at Mr. Peppers, I think you do a disservice to Wikipedia. I think it can handle this topic without cruelty or malice, and paint Peppers for what he is -- an unfortunate man, who's made mistakes, and still has a life ahead of him. I firmly believe deleting his entry is unethical. It deprives him of the one online resource that might keep track of any positive achievements of his, and says, basically, that we're going to sweep him under the rug, that we see him as so deeply pathetic that he's unsuitable for coverage.     • My logic is this: This band gets a lot external attention, so it's of interest to users and we should cover it. However, the fact that this media attention exists is sufficient to tell us that the band should be covered, and there are diminishing returns to actually adding external links to a short stub like this. Thanks for your work in cleaning up this article. The original contributor also created 22 most wanted al Qaeda men. I thought of changing the latter into a redirect page but it seems possible that the most wanted terrorists may not always be al Qaeda. Also, for that matter, there may not always be "22" names on the list. I'm thinking both articles should be redirected to a new article most wanted terrorists and list it on the most wanted disambig. page. Would you agree with this approach? List questions

Just out of curiosity, no hard feelings or anything, but why, in your opinion, do you feel it is neccessary to have a list and a category, when the list provides just a smidgen more information than a category. I don't know, maybe I haven't thought it out very thouroughly, but unless an article can provide some information of significance, I don't feel a list is very useless. I like the List of Presidents of the United States, so I'm not anti-lists, just these minute lists that have potential to be massive and have no extra content besides occupation and birth/death years. Regarding Ewa Sonnet

Noticed that you "de-prod"-ed Ewa Sonnet and mentioned, in your edit summary, that she has more than one million Google hits. Perhaps it would interest you to know that using the search term "Ewa Sonnet" (with quotes), I only pulled up 770,000? However, after reaching the 510-ish mark, Google spat back that it omitted many of the search results due to the fact that they were duplicates. Additionally, a bulk of the sites (from what I can gather anyway) are merely sites that bump up the search engine results for Ewa Sonnet with no actual content. Well the merge proposal has been on the project page for debate for two months at least, so why do you claim it was improperly merged ? Hey there, we are about to move ahead and merge it again discussion. You are correct, the subject deserves much more than the current List of constructed languages provides. Which makes it seem to me that the problem is that page, i.e., constructed languages, including but not limited to Al Bhed, are getting the shaft by being on a page that is merely a list of languages. I'm afraid I don't quite see the logic in that argument: by compiling info into a more reader friendly format (which is to say, putting it together) instead of spreading it out across dozens of pages, that's hiding it?

AfD advice

Kappa, I'd like some advice on deleting certain articles. While clicking through random links I ran across Dick Nasty and Wesley Pipes, which seem to me to fail to meet a number of normal deletion guidelines like verifiability and importance. (They may be notable in their field but the articles do not assert it by, for example, stating number of films). There is also no evidence of recognition by write-up in the wider world, such is usually required for minor authors, non-porn models, and so forth. I'm sure there are more where these came from. But as I said if there is already a more or less consensus so that they will be deprodded or saved at Afd, then there's no point in even bringing it up. Hi! I've noted that you created the article, using a part of the French article. I wanted to ask if you would have anything against me renaming the article Regions of Chad: the French article after all preferred Subdivisions because they included also prefectures (1960-98) and departments (1998-2002) periods, while in the English wikipedia Prefectures of Chad is a separate article, and the present Subdivisions of Chad includes only the present Regional phase.
