You are invited to join a WikiProject!

Hi Johnny Au,

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia. I, hereby, representing other members of WP:GHR, would want you to join our project named Golden Horseshoe Roads. (Read the article Golden Horseshoe if you don't know what it means). Click here to read our project's scope, and our participants. What we are currently doing is to create road articles, York Regional Roads and Peel Regional Roads for now. In the near future, we will be expanding our project, so that the scope includes creating articles of, not just roads, but communities, landmarks, and structures around the Golden Horseshoe. I have reviewed your contributions, and find you have a great potential.

If you do want to join the project, and we hope so you do, please inform me, and I will tell you what to do next.

WikiProject Golden Horseshoe Roads, Outreach Department

WikiProject Template

Hi again, it's me, Smcafirst.

Well, I added {{Golden Horseshoe Roads}} on your user page, so we will know you are one of our member. Okay?

{{Golden Horseshoe Roads}}

WP:GHR issues

Hi Johnny Au,

As part of our WP:GHR campaign, from now on, every article you create/edit/view that is related to our porject's scope, please add the template {{Component Golden Horseshoe Roads}}, and notify me, and then I will rate that particular article. It is also a nice idea to start putting this template in articles where landmarks are introduced. (i.e. Splendid China Tower??) We will be expanding our project soon enough, so that everything in the Golden Horseshoe will be covered.

Thanks for joining!

WP:GHR Update

Enclosed is a map of census divisions (so, counties/ regions / cities), and colour coded to show how are we doing in different parts of the Golden Horseshoe, and how much articles are written. Over the summer, I will create another similar one. The white parts of the map means that we will start to work on these areas, after the expansion of the project. (So, that is, after the creation of WP:QCWC (WikiProject Quebec City-Windsor Corridor).

Golden Horseshoe Sources

My source is the article for Guelph, where it says the Metro population is 200,425. Looking at the articles for other cities on the list such as Barrie, Toronto, and Hamilton, the metro populations are exactly the same as the ones used on the golden horseshoe article. There is also a source for this information in the first paragraph of the Guelph article. If we need sources on both the Guelph and Golden Horseshoe pages for the same information, let me know and I will gladly put the source into that article as well. I just don't understand why all the other cities have metro numbers listed but Guelph uses a city proper number. Thanks for your input. --71.199.196.64 05:21, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Also, I have been a member of Wikipedia for some time now and you can see my contributions under the user name Barinade2151. --71.199.196.64 05:29, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Upgraded comments

Hello. I would appreciate it if you didn't upgrade my comments or anyone else's[1]. My choice of template was deliberate - there are first level user notices for a reason. User notices are also used in relation to whether the user has seen them, not how many edits they have made. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:16, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Additionally, please do not warn users and sign a user name other than your own as you did here [2]. This is considered bad practice, even if you meant well.--Yankees76 21:55, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

My request for adminship

Please support my request for adminship. I have made two thousand edits in one year, and regularly contribute to warning vandals, placing them in WP:AIV and requested page protection in WP:RPP. Johnny Au (talk) 19:14, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

At your RFA, I know you mean well, but copying the policy page isn't going to help. I'll give you a few pointers if you like:

  • A user that's indef blocked can be unblocked and can start contributing back to the community, so it isn't always permanent.
  • A banned user, who has usually done something more serious than a indef blocked user, has usually used up all their chances and will very rarely be readmitted back to the wiki.
  • Blocks aren't always indefinite, some only last a few hours, or even just a few days, depending on the severity of the edits they have been making, etc.

Hope this helps, Rt. 20:56, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. Johnny Au (talk) 20:59, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
I interpreted this to mean you wanted to withdraw your RFA, so I've done so. Please don't be discouraged at the outcome. Take the comments of the opposers in the spirit they were intended - constructive criticism - and consider applying again when you've addressed some of their concerns. When you feel ready to try again, there is also an Wikipedia:Admin coaching program, which you might find useful. Good luck. --barneca (talk) 21:25, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Want a coach?

Hello. I noticed your request for a coach over at Admin coaching, and I'm available.

Keep in mind that I'm not an admin - I've been through 3 intense RfAs (so far), and therefore I understand the process well, though I have not yet overcome the stigma of conflicts I was engaged in early in my participation here (which occurred over a year ago, also, if you want to see what not to do in an RfA, see my first two). But I am an admin coach, and have co-coached 5 users who have become admins, 4 of whom I co-nominated for adminship in their successful RfAs, and strongly endorsed the other as her admin coach. I have experience over a wide range of activities, and I'd say my general approach is progressive and direct.

If you do not currently have an admin coach, I would be glad to be your coach. I do have a few conditions though, and they are that you...

  1. watch your coaching page closely, and reply to every post there in a timely fashion
  2. fill in all of your edit summaries (if you find yourself forgetting, there's a setting in "my preferences" that will remind you)
  3. keep the "VC lessons" template somewhere you can access it easily (usually on your user page or your talk page). I'll place it initially, and then you can move it if you want. It'll include a convenient link to your coaching page.
  4. complete all the assignments you are given to the best of your ability. If you have trouble with an assignment, by all means, let me know, so we can discuss possible solutions and alternatives.
  5. take the advice provided by my fellow coaches and your fellow students to heart (this should be a group effort), and I generally invite others I work with to join in on the fun (which is why I'm usually a co-coach)
  6. (optional, though highly recommended) write a lesson for the Virtual classroom. There's plenty of time to think about this, so don't worry about it now.
  7. don't go for your RfA or accept an RfA nomination except from me - I will coordinate your nomination when I believe you are ready

Please let me know if you agree, and we can get started.

I look forward to your reply.

York, Ontario

Hi Johnny Au, I just find that from here I can communicate with you. I just deleted one sentence on the 'York' page: which I think would be better without it. (Income Stereotypes: Firstly, there are significant amount of ‘lower-income’ people living in ‘upper-income’ / ‘middle to upper-income’ neighbourhoods and vise versa. Secondly, advertising a ‘bad’ neighbourhood only made the neighbourhood worse and therefore worsen all its nearby neighbourhoods) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jim Yu (talkcontribs) 21:35, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Response

If entries have in any way been of offence, my apologies. In Retro Magazine is not currently supported by advertising -- it is a form of alternative media, and inserted listings/links were placed only among those made by other media as well. Specifically, the sites that references/links were posted to were listings of the media pertinent to those cities... where media listings were already present.

Our regional magazine/media legitimately qualifies as being part of those listings. This is not advertising - but a fair balance of information. This is not spam, but rather showing the world that alternatives do exist aside from the typical mainstream media. I believe this information was wrongfully removed. Advertising is not my intent. If you read the articles in the magazine, you'll see that nothing is being sold. It is merely a medium of information. Is Wikipedia not a place where people go to learn about what exists – and by blocking relevant information is it tampering with the truth? Please respond,

ND —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nduffy (talkcontribs) 17:11, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, you should discuss that in the talk page first before adding it. Due to the amount of true spam added throughout the article's history, I assumed that all new additions are spam if they are not mentioned on the talk page. Johnny Au (talk) 18:12, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

MARTA edits

Thanks for your recent edits to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. I found it interesting to learn about another transit system which does not receive state/provincial support, and I think this is relevant to the MARTA article. My concern is that you didn't add a citation for the information. I also checked Toronto Transit Commission but couldn't find any references either for this statement. While I don't doubt that the TTC doesn't receive provincial funding, I don't have any evidence MARTA is second--maybe there is another Canadian system larger than MARTA? I hate to be so picky about the references but I am getting the MARTA article ready for a FA nomination in about 1 month and I want to make sure everything is in order. If you give me a reference I would be happy to add it to the article. Biomedeng (talk) 04:03, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Glenn Gould

Pianist who famously gave up live performances is perhaps the worst description of Glenn Gould that could be possibly thought of. He is easily the most recognizable figure in all of Canadian Classical music, perhaps you don't see that, and that is possible, however doubtful it is. Regardless of that, I suggest that someone if not you or I, comes up with a better brief summary for GG, Canada's pianist.

Jonzo12 (talk) 02:13, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. That statement was not mine. How about this: Glenn Gould: One of Canada's most famous pianists? Johnny Au (talk) 02:21, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

CN Tower

I did not add a personal opinion on this article. I was merely adding a statement from citation #4:

Defining the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is Canada's most recognizable and celebrated icon. 204.138.127.2 (talk) 17:46, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, what you have added is the use of peacock terms. The use of these terms do violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Thank you. Johnny Au (talk) 20:17, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Rob Ford

Can you provide reasons, preferably on the talk page, as to why you think this article needs Wikifying? It looks pretty good to me. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 21:34, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

the reasons are there are quite few internal links and there are almost no headings in the article. Johnny Au (talk) 21:57, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Grabertising

An editor has nominated Grabertising, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Grabertising and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Toronto Raptors

My edit WAS constructive! Someone said that in the transitory season, their record improved to 33-49! Not only did their record not improve, but stayed the same from the previous season, it was posted in the off-season section, and i moved it to the end of the previous season where it shouldve been! It was constructive! Don't tell me it wasnt constructive when it was constructive! I'm being constructive! I know when I'm not being constructive (like now), and that Toronto Raptors edit was not an example of it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jordan8800 (talkcontribs) 14:39, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Toronto FC

Was asking for full-page protection for Toronto FC really warranted over a simple debate about the info box? The same thing was happening on the pages for the rest of the league, and the whole thing seems to be being resolved there, without locking the pages. Nfitz (talk) 22:25, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh yes, it is warranted. As the other pages have been resolved, I was thinking of unprotecting it now. Johnny Au (talk) 00:20, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
It is now unprotected. Johnny Au (talk) 03:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

This is the note that was sent on my edit of the Toronto FC page

One or more of the external links you added to the page Toronto FC do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion

I am simply doing what all the other supporters groups have done by adding themselves to this section? Why was mine deleted and their not?

User:Raptor200

FYI:

After 4 spam warnings, it's time to blacklist a domain. Blocks seldom stop a spammer who ignore 4 warnings -- they just switch IPs or user names. Blacklisting, by contrast, usually shuts them down for keeps. Feel free to bring spam like Raptors to Wikiproject Spam for investigation (to see if other domains are being spammed by the same site-owner) and potential blacklisting.

Thanks for staying on top of this guy. --A. B. (talkcontribs) 01:28, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Canadian University Rankings link

If you think the Canadian University Rankings article shouldn't be in wikipedia then address that with the admin. It is a legitimate article and as such it is legitimate to add it as a link in another article. That is not my personal analysis. Your's perhaps is to remove the link since you go to U of T but that link is encyclopedic and represents part of the unadulterated encyclopedic facts about rankings that are being used in the U of T article. Please do not remove it again as that constitutes a violation of the unbiased access to factual information that wikipedia is based on. Cyril2006

That link I believe is legitimate and should be in Wikipedia. Johnny Au (talk) 21:33, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Bur Oak Avenue

Bur Oak is an important road in the Town of Markham. I'm not even the one who wrote a ton of articles, I've only written about Bur Oak. The rest are regional roads. And why is the other user using the 1999 edition of MapArt's Toronto atlas? Of course the road wouldn't be on that version, it was built in 2002. Use an updated map. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ilovevancouver90909 (talkcontribs) 21:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I agree with Bearcat on this matter, since I know that The Canadian Roadgeek did not author it. I read the Bur Oak Avenue article, but it left me confused why should it be on Wikipedia? For example, Vaughan Road should be included in Wikipedia because it is not only a local collector road, but also helped lead to the establishment of the Township of Vaughan in 1850. Bur Oak Avenue, on the other hand, is only a local collector road and did not exist in the late 1990s. If you want Bur Oak Avenue as its own article in Wikipedia, then please do not comment for the deletion of similar streets, such as Marlee Avenue, Glencairn Avenue, Oakwood Avenue, or Rogers Road, if there were articles about them. In fact, I can easily create them, but I am unable to find any context for these streets, which may lead to speedy deletions of these articles. I rest my case. Johnny Au (talk) 22:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

John Street

You have just edited John Street, Toronto without noticing the silly history that keeps being restored and that Festival Hall has been renamed. This is not really an interest of mine, but since you are a member of the Golden Horseshoe Roads Project, perhaps you could keep an eye on this. -Secondarywaltz (talk) 15:42, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I should. I just looked at the history and did not realize that the article is being vandalized every few months without being corrected. Johnny Au (talk) 19:24, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

My editing

I can ensure you there is nothing wrong with the edits I made. I've even discussed it on the talk page whith the other user who reverted my edits didn't even bother to go and discuss it. Kingjeff (talk) 17:42, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I did not notice it. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 20:50, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I was referring to my laziness of not signing in. You left a message at my ip address from not signing in. You mentioned about my edits to Toronto FC. Kingjeff (talk) 02:41, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Oh yes. I know that there is nothing wrong. According to Wikipedia:Not every IP is a vandal, I can tell if an IP is a good contributer or not. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:50, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

But anyways, my version of what should be is left on the talk page. I don't think anyone has responded, eventhough a revert happened after I left a message. Essentially, Canadian Championship should have it's own line from other matches. Having "other matches" is ambiguous. Because what constitutes other matches? Kingjeff (talk) 03:01, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Other matches in this case refer to Toronto FC games that are not against another MLS team. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 21:24, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Not really. Other matches would be anything that is not MLS, playoffs and Canadian championship. So, essentially, superliga and CONCACAF Champions League. Kingjeff (talk) 01:02, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

I have continued this discussion in the main discussion page. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:36, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

List of neighbourhoods in Toronto

Hope you don't take this the wrong way (I know you are a prolific editor of articles about Toronto), but this edit [3] comes across as sneaky. The edit summary says "Redirect bypass from Old Toronto, Ontario to Old Toronto using popups" but you have included something extra that probably didn't come from popups, changing "the (censored) village" to "the (censored) village", which seems to violate WP:NOTCENSORED. I'm not sure if you made the change because you feel it's offensive, or worry that people who live there might be offended, but you should have discussed this on the talk page first. Please revert this change (because if you don't, I will, on the grounds that it was done improperly and deceptively). --A Knight Who Says Ni (talk) 17:19, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I just wondered why such an odd thing would happen (and who thinks "gay" is too offensive of a word to be printable on a website these days?). BTW, it's happened again on this page! I won't fix it, because I suspect it's going to change every time you edit your talk page. --A Knight Who Says Ni (talk) 02:46, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

How is F.B. McFarren in Streetsville a Toronto park? You can always make a list for Mississauga parks, but the Toronto one should be for Toronto parks. --Pwnage8 (talk) 13:13, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Mississauga is not part of the city of Toronto. Including Mississauga parks in the Toronto article would be the same as merging List of parks in Markham, Ontario into the Toronto parks article. Shall I create the Mississauga parks article, or will you be doing that? --Pwnage8 (talk) 15:45, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
How about this: you can create the Mississauga parks article, but we add approximately equal amounts into it. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 17:16, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Do you mean include roughly the same amount of parks as in the Toronto article? It would be my pleasure. I'll take care of it. --Pwnage8 (talk) 00:41, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:22, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm putting off creating the article until I get my own camera, and create articles for the major parks in Mississauga. A list with no articles or photos will get deleted pretty fast, and there is no pressing need for such an article at this point. --Pwnage8 (talk) 23:57, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

How exactly did we get Infrastructure at the top? Whether it's locals, or prospective tourists, who wants to see highways first?

Hi, in response to your message, it was copied and pasted from an older revision that I didn't do. I did it because people kept omitting information through their edits. I guess it was my fault for not checking for grammar. Cncxbox (talk) 04:05, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism on Wikipedia Article: Toronto Subway and RT

You sent me a message that I was making disruptive edits and vandalizing the article above. If so, I apologize. New infobox for Ontario Roads

I've been making this for the past couple weeks after having too much trouble getting infobox road to work outside the King's Highway system. It uses 4 different colours, depending on the type of road (blue for freeways, green for provincial highways, yellow for county roads, and grey for any other street. I figured you're the few other people active with Ontario roads, so I'd bring it to you first rather than just springing it on the articles.

Feel free to test out any road or value on the /test page to see if you can break it. Documentation is limited so far but all the parameters are laid out, and generally compatible with the current Infobox road template. Cheers - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 17:36, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

OK, I just thought the "WELCOME TO WIKIPEDIA!" intro was made by a bot because Ive been on here for almost a year, and that is just stupid welcoming someone on here for months. Some of your edits on the 2010 Toronto Blue Jays are clearly bot edits (I hope). Censoring the name "Dick" is useless because it is very clear that is a name, and censorship is not needed unless it is a vandal act.

I am sorry for the unintentional censorship, since I installed a program that automatically censors. I am glad to revert them. Yes, I know that Dick is a person's name, but the English language sometimes evolves for the worse. Thank you. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 21:29, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Redirect bypasses

Good work on all the redirect bypasses you've been doing. I do think that sometimes redirects should not be bypassed. For instance one recent change was from Mayor of Toronto to list of mayors of Toronto. I think it is quite likely that someday Mayor of Toronto will be its own article like Premier of Ontario or Mayor of New York City. When it does become its own article, it will be very hard to go back and correct all the links as there is no easy indication of where a past redirect has been bypassed. In general I feel that one should only bypass redirects when there is absolutely no chance of an article being created under that name. - SimonP (talk) 03:41, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

It is temporary. If a separate Mayor of Toronto article is created, I would go back and changed them back to said article. I had done so for Vaughan Road, which was originally a redirect to Oakwood–Vaughan and bypassed all redirects. I then went to every page with Vaughan Road linked to Oakwood–Vaughan to Vaughan Road when the Vaughan Road article became distinct. I did so with the search function. Thank you. Reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial currently scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 15:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Toronto history and G-20

Toronto history

Hello. I noticed you added the G-20 summit to the Toronto template and Toronto History template. Although it may be a major event that happened in Toronto I don't think the G-20 summit has a profound effect in the history of Toronto. Previous G-20 host cities did not highlight the summits in their history articles/templates. Also, the history template seems to disorder the article (because of the images and infobox). For those reasons, I'm removing the G-20 summit listings and the templates from the summit article. εεℓαм sтуℓεz (talk) 23:21, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

While I understand and agree with the general reasoning Eelamstylez77 presents, I wonder if Toronto might be an exception? Am I correct in guessing that the protest demonstrations were extraordinary? In any event, the "investment" of so many Canadian dollars in the Toronto event is extraordinary -- even in the context of the Winter Olympics. I wonder if the conjunction of these two elements might justify revisiting this non-standard issue?
I have no personal point-of-view, no private opinion; but the questions seem like ones that deserve considering? --Tenmei (talk) 21:01, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Given that security costs exceed even the 2010 Winter Olympics and the costs alone generated sufficient controversy, I think that an exception can be made. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:12, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Something bad is here

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours for your disruption caused by your engagement in an edit war at Toronto Star. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:06, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
I've also revoked your rollback privileges and, since the IP you were edit warring with appears to be on a dynamic IP, semi protected the article for the duration of your block. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:10, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Did you closely review the material that Johnny Au was reverting out of the article? I don't think that blocking an editor who has been contributing since 2006 and maintained a clean block log prior to even issuing a warning was appropriate. Not to mention the fact that the editor had reported this to RFPP requesting full protection [4] - clearly he wasn't looking to break 3RR. –xenotalk 19:29, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
I've unblocked. This block was exceptionally heavy-handed. The user made two reverts and asked for full protection at RFPP. Why not just grant the full protection and let it be hashed out at the talk page? Blocking without warning when the editor had presumably already gone offline was entirely inappropriate and without basis in the blocking policy. –xenotalk 19:58, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Well I was in the middle of posting an extended rationale, but since I've been overruled, I won;t bother commenting any further. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:05, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
I would still be interested in your rationale for placing this block an hour after the editor had reported it to RFPP and gone offline. –xenotalk 20:06, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
My comment prior to the edit conflict with the unblock. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:11, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
I did [review the material posted by the IP]. There were certainly issues with the text the IP hopper was inserting, but it was not vandalism and didn't deserve to summarily reverted without discussion, much less by way of rollback. Full protection and the rollback button are not substitutes for discussion and, as far as I can see, whether or not he intended to edit war, Johnny did not attempt to engage the IP in discussion on the talk page (where he was taking place in other discussions) nor on the IP editor's talk pages. Having been around since 2006 with a clean block log is not a license to edit war and, whether or not his intent was to edit war, Johnny was clearly aware, judging from his RfPP request, that the issue was a content dispute. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:11, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I still don't see why a block was necessary. Blocks are meant to prevent disruption, and by making a request for protection it seems obvious (to me, anyway) that Johnny Au did not intend to continue edit warring. As intimated below, I agree that using native rollback was borderline inappropriate in this case, but a warning would have sufficed. –xenotalk 20:15, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Johnny, in cases like this you need to provide edit summaries rather than using blanket rollback, as the edit you were reverting at a quick glance may have appeared appropriate (two references to the Toronto Star) although it reached an original research opinion/conclusion about an apparent flash-in-a-pan controversy spoken about only in a blog that was not supported by reliable sources. With an indication that you are aware of this, I see no reason not to re-enable your rollback rights. –xenotalk 20:06, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
    • Thank you. I thought I was blocked and I did have a rationale on WP:RPP in that I agreed with Canterbury Tail regarding this and I posted on WP:RPP so that I do not become accused of WP:3RR. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 20:10, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
      • While I believe the block lacked it, please seek restoration of rollback rights from HJ Mitchell (talk · contribs) because the revocation did arguably have justification. –xenotalk 20:21, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Hobart Johnstone Whitley

Sorry you do not want a notable residence reference added to the Toronto page. I have seen it on many other pages on Wiki. H J Whitley was born in October 7, 1847 in Toronto Canada. I thought since he named Hollywood in 1886 and was "The Father of Hollywood" that might be an interesting fact that Canadians would like to know. I thought they would be proud of this fact. Please reread your talk page. I do not want to repeat what others have said about Hobart Johnstone Whitley. If you want to mention him badly, please develop consensus in your own talk page first however and not name dropping on articles that potentially pertain to him. List of roads in Toronto

Hey, don't know if you remember, but once upon a time I mentioned converting List of roads in Toronto into a better format? I have finally made a start on it. Was hoping you'd be interested in helping me out. I intend to redirect a majority of the Toronto street articles to their appropriate section once I finish it. Cheers, ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 00:41, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Your format is so much better than the format. There are too many stub articles on York Regional Roads. See this category and this template. I believe that The Canadian Roadgeek is too much of a road geek when he created so many stub articles of York regional roads. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:50, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Indeed. York Regional roads I'm going to redirect to the regional list... and actually I figure Canadian Roadgeek is the only one that has vested interest in them, so I may as well be bold and do it now. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 01:37, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
After Toronto and York, see if there are other stub articles on regional roads in other regional municipalities, as well as those in Roads in Vaughan and in Markham, where the Roadgeek had too much interest in. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:58, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Will do. I'm also looking at my articles in Kawartha Lakes and a bunch in Ottawa and Niagara. Taking down the York roads just eliminated 15+ permastubs. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 02:26, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Crosstown LRT or Crosstown?

Is the official name really Crosstown LRT? Because the TTC site also refers to it as "the Crosstown" and "Crosstown line" at the moment. For the time being, however, "Crosstown LRT" should be an appropriate name. EelamStyleZ (talk) 17:33, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
