I'm curious about why WP views cruchbase so. Can you elucidate? WP's page on it reports: "Crunchbase sources its data in four ways: the venture program, machine learning, an in-house data team, and the Crunchbase community. Members of the public can submit information to the Crunchbase database. These submissions are subject to registration, social validation, and are often reviewed by a moderator before being accepted for publication."

- Sorry Picky Weeds, I only just saw this message. I believe that it's ok to use primary sources for very basic info and I can't find a policy that says otherwise. You originally declined it on June 24, because the sources used were not independent from the Task Force. Since then, I replaced all the sources by independent ones. Thanks for the feedback but I need clarifications

I appreciate your feedback but I need more clarifications as stated below:
1. "References need to be independent of S.K. Nayar." Most everything placed as references are from external, reliable sources such as, established newspapers (Hindu) a national daily in India. Also, other references pertain to legitimate websites with specific biographies and writeups on the subject by verifiable sources. (Kerala Sahitya Akademi, University of Madras, Asan Memorial etc.)
2. Can you place the references that are valid after the assertions they support? Do you mean each citation needs to be at the end of the line and not specifically where the word is referenced? (Pl clarify and point to a good example versus a bad example on my page.)
3. I changed the caption (The Quintessential Teacher) to S.K. in 1980 to make it neutral.
I will be happy to make alterations and edit further as needed.

- Hi Lnayar,
- I rejected the article based on notability; the other comments were intended to provide more guidance.
- To establish notability, extensive coverage via independent, reliable sources is required. I can't get to the Hindu Times - the article is behind a paywall, but most of the other refs merely mention his name, or include him on a list, or link to a catalogue listing. (The University of Madras ref links to an online payment site for the school.) Anything that he wrote or was affiliated with an organization he was involved with is not independent, and many of the refs are via sources that are unlikely to be considered reliable.
- The citations should immediately follow the statement it supports. For example, the entire Honors and Awards section is uncited - you would need a citation that specifically confirms that he received each of the awards. There is a *lot* of the article that is uncited. (Take a look at Harry Brand, which is the article I'm most proud of writing. You'll see that every statement can be verified via an independent, reliable source.)

Clarification on a Declined Article
Hello,
I'm contacting you about an article that you declined to publish that I created. The article in question is Draft:Dez_Cleo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Dez_Cleo), I've provided links to independent websites citing articles about Dez Cleo as either an interview of the artist or a review of her music, I'm not sure sure why these are not being considered as reliable and failing the 'significant coverage' criteria. I have noticed other articles that have been apparently approved with less or similar citations on Wikipedia, I have listed these below. Clarifications on why some of these pages' citations are only from IMDB and considered 'Reliable' and not why that same criteria isn't being used to justify my article would be very helpful in understanding this ambiguous approval process.

- Hi Hunar118,
- I read the draft, and given her history, I was surprised by the lack of coverage -- I did a search and didn't come up with much of anything beyond what you used. An argument could be made that she meets notability based on her inclusion on the Fright Night 2 soundtrack, or that she was signed to Hollywood, but I don't think those are strong claims.
- The sources you used are Buzz Music, Skope Entertainment Inc and AVA Live Music. Buzz appears to be advertorial, Skope is a full-service music based media company that can be hired, and I couldn't get a handle on AVA Live Music. Here's more information on reliable sources. Also, if the bulk of an article is an interview, the source isn't considered independent. (I don't agree with that, but it's all about consensus around here.)
- The approval process isn't ambiguous. Although there is room for interpretation, the the notability criteria is clearly defined. As for the articles you mentioned, keep in mind that there are 6.1 million articles on the English Wikipedia, and I'm sure many thousands are on on subjects that don't meet the inclusion criteria. It's just that they've gone unnoticed. That said, I tagged Aviva Baumann, Steve Bannos, and Mac McDonald; you are absolutely correct in your assessment. (Stacy Edwards won an Independent Spirt Award, and major awards confirm notability).
- Dez Cleo recently released new music, and I would think that more coverage is forthcoming! Maybe it's just too early.

Review of new page: EIP (law firm)
Hi Julie! You recently reviewed my submission for EIP which wasn't accepted owing to the lack of corporate notability. I'd be super grateful if you can give me your opinion on a couple of points below.
a) I used the primary criteria check box tool to see if the references establish corporate notability. Can you please let me know which criteria were not met in the references and, if any, which references were best? b) I have noticed that most comparable firms with articles have references that don't seem to meet the corporate notability criteria. Take Bristows for example (but it's true for almost every article in the IP firm category too!). The references are of awards and rankings, mentions in court cases, and content from the company website - coverage that EIP appears to have in similar abundance. Should any of these IP firms have Wikipedia articles based on the guidelines or is there something I missed in my submission?

- Hi. :The Legal Business reference is valid, as it provides extensive coverage specifically about the firm. I can't get to the Times article (paywall), but WP requires multiple references, so IMHO it's not relevant -- two references are not sufficient to meet the general notability guide or the inclusion criteria for companies). Also note that references need to be independent; the Bath article is dependent on a press release. (The quotes are via a prepared statement.) Which of the primary criteria does the company meet? I'm happy to re-review. (Keep in mind that the coverage needs to be non-trivial -- a sentence or two does not suffice.)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

- Year in review
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

- Hi Cookerid. I rewrote the lead and left some notes on the draft.
- It is not relevant to reviewing the article, but for the record, my dad died recently, and music was essential to keeping him comfortable. So I completely believe in the concept.
- That said, given that MusiCure produces and sells music and accessories, it's a company. Unless it's a non-profit, that's the way it should be described. If you're using research conducted by Musica Humana, it's not an independent source. And the way that it's presented in the article reads as promotional. (Please note that neither the article on Musica Humana or the composer are properly referenced and are susceptible to deletion.)
- I wasn't able to find references via reliable, independent sources; can you add them? See notability guidelines for companies. If you resubmit the draft you will need to adhere to the guidelines for companies. Also give writing better articles a read. (I just read it for the first time in a while -- it really is helpful.)

- Thanks so much for your comments. My condolences for the loss of your father. I'm glad that music helped. Re your recommendations, I do support them fully, I'm just a bit stuck. I have tried only to quote studies made by third-party organisations, and not Musica Humana, specifically as they cannot be seen as independent. These are basically the only third-party references I have. It's a curious product, which I came across many years ago. It seems to have a specific and documented reach, but admittedly in the Scandinavian region. I really don't have any skin in the game though, and just wondered if I could help document what they did. I had actually been thinking the same thing; it blew me away that there wasn't already an article given her prominence.! That said, PLEASE tinker with it! Thank you for your review of my Wiki article. I understand how it could read not as neutral as it should be. If this topic is not heavily sourced online, do you suggest keeping the article even shorter than it is now? Is it ok to keep the links to articles (like the one in Fortune Magazine, etc.) or should those be taken out too?
I know you mentioned the tone of the article as well. Any suggestions (like an example sentence change) of how I could do that? That would be super helpful!

- Hi CRP5649. There's more about his life in the references you used that can be added to the draft. I would add whatever is relevant (nothing trivial) as otherwise the article will lean toward hype. The bad news is that you're still lacking the extensive coverage required -- you should go for at least three articles via independent reliable sources that provide extensive coverage of Derek Jones specifically. References via his label or products he endorses don't establish notability. Listings don't provide the extensive coverage necessary.
- The good news is that the draft won't be deleted unless you stop working on it for six months or longer. And even then, you can easily request that it be undeleted. Hi,
I tried to be very factual, I took your feedback into account. Can you please explain to me how I can factual report that Dianna Cohen was interviewed in a Seaspiracy about the fishing equipment plastic? She is the CEO of one of the major NGO on that topic and the documentary was part of the top 10 views of Netflix. I fail to understand why that would be a poor source, why that would be defamatory if I only report what the documentary shows. Finally everybody seems to be ok to mention that Dianna Cohen surfs even though she is hardly important in the surfing community, however you don't think it's important to mention her view on plastics, even though she is an important figure in the movement to remove plastic from our lives? I do feel that the fact that she was interviewed and the fact that her organization focuses on consumer plastic and not fishing equipment plastic fits the guidelines and since she is a public figure leading an organization focusing on plastics in the ocean it is worth mentioning. I'm not sure that Netflix documentaries can be considered a reputable source in general but plenty of documentaries on Netflix are referenced on Wikipedia so I assumed it was, especially if being careful about the wording. Finally I feel that oceanic pollution and how NGOs are addressing the issue is a Wikipedia worthy subject. Could you please help me write it in the best simple manner.

- In my opinion, reliable sources are objective, and documentaries (the good ones anyway) always have a point of view. I'm sure docs have been used as sources on Wikipedia, but being used in one article doesn't mean it's ok to use them in another article. (See Other stuff exists.)
- I tried to find valid sources that would support the content that you want to add, but didn't come up with much of anything. From The Guardian to the New York Times, the consensus is that the film is misleading. In Vox, the unquestionably credible Daniel Pauly wrote "'Seaspiracy' does more harm than good. It takes the very serious issue of the devastating impact of industrial fisheries on life in the ocean and then undermines it with an avalanche of falsehoods. It also employs questionable interviewing techniques, uses anti-Asian tropes, and blames the ocean conservation community, i.e., the very NGOs trying to fix things, rather than the industrial companies actually causing the problem."
- Based on the sources, you can't adhere to Wikipedia guidelines while implying Dianna Cohen, as the head of the Plastic Pollution Coalition, is somehow in the pocket of the fishing industry or state that the organization is questionable in their motives.
- That said, I admire your resolve and your determination to do Wikipedia the right way. I'm sure there are other articles that you can contribute to and improve, and if you need help, I'm all about it. JSFarman (talk) 01:31, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

I feel stuck at the moment in my work on the page and wondered if you may be able to give me a hand with changing some of the language? I read through the link you sent over, but I really seem to be struggling to see how to formalise some of my language used. I've changed the structure of the page today, so the Critical Reception isn't interwoven in the main body. Hopefully this formalises the page a touch and makes it seem more impartial (as it is). I realise you mentioned that you knew Chuck in another lifetime, so I wouldn't ask you to edit any of the actual content, but just grammatically and syntactically it would be so helpful! - Hi Morral08 and apologies for the delay. I haven't been online a lot recently. Chuck's article needs an edit in tone - the article needs to be formal - but there aren't references that will establish his notability, so it's kind of a moot point. (References need to be independent - interviews generally don't qualify. Anything written by Chuck does not go towards notability.)
- It is not an unusual situation! It's very difficult for writers (particularly journalists) to meet the inclusion criteria. There are so may journalists who should have articles but don't. It can be very frustrating (as I'm sure you have realized). JSFarman (talk) 16:55, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
