Ring Cinema's Question

I noticed this line in my watchlist:

19:46 (Deletion log) . . HJ Mitchell (talk | contribs) changed revision visibility of User talk:Ring Cinema: removed content for 2 revisions (RD3: Purely disruptive material)

Your name's on it and I'm not sure what it means. I assume it has to do with AnmaFinotera, but I haven't contributed any "purely disruptive material" so that's an inaccurate characterization. Can you help? thanks. --Ring Cinema (talk) 02:38, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Well, maybe someone vandalized your userpage with defamatory content, that's the most probable reason he did that. --Diego Grez let's talk 02:40, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
The edits weren't made by you- some IP came to your talk page and unleashed a diatribe against AnmaFinotera, which got the IP blocked and the revisions deleted. Courcelles (talk) 02:42, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Ah, 25 hours, you need help(!) Again. How about the Nauru nomination? --candlewicke 04:03, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: Autoreviewer

Hey HJ, how you been? I see that you're an Admin., and how cool is that? Are you enjoying your new found glory? lol. Wow, I appreciate that you upgraded me as an Autoreviewer, that's so cool. I will handle this with care. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 18:59, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I'm pretty good, thanks. This admin bit makes things so much easier! I'm surprised you didn't have autoreviewer already, but there's no need for new page patrollers to use up precious time reviewing your edits when they could be dealing with something that needs reviewing and you're sensible enough to know what you're doing. Aren't you? ;) I see some idiot tried to tell the world that Kirsten Dunst was dead the other day (for which I blocked them!) so other than that, how are thing on-wiki for you? Any more FAs in the works? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:17, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, I really didn't understand this whole reviewer thing, wasn't that popular yet until I was granted reviewer rights. I was excited that someone trusted me with this, and hope not to dissapoint them. :) Yup, that's exactly it; I'm very sensible to stuff. ;) Is that why you deleted the edit from Dunst's history? My wiki work is good, I just finished a season of episodes and waiting for them to be promoted and then head off to GT so that my work pays off. I'm working on the next season episodes. Actually, I do have plans. In a couple of weeks I'm going to dedicate myself in improving Aaron Eckhart's article to FA status. If you're available in those couple of weeks I would appreciate some help with it. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 19:29, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, there's nowhere that it's explained in simple terms for regular editors who haven't read up on the history, but essentially from next week admins will be able to apply "pending changes" protection, which means edits from IPs and new accounts have to be checked by a reviewer before they appear in the live version so it becomes easier to screen out vandalism, BLP violations etc. Yeah, that's why I deleted the edit- it's a clear BLP violation and I didn't want anyone reverting back to that version whether accidentally or maliciously. I'd be happy to help out on Eckhart- I need to do some content work and it'll make a change from blocking vandals! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:45, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for my late, late, late, late, reply, I totally forgot you replied until I came to your talkpage... right now. Yeah, I just saw that one admin. unprotected this article I watch, though, I can't wait 'til the IP edits start happening. Oh, okay. I never understood that, cause I never seen that until a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, when you're available I'd love your help, I know your busy with other duties, which is very understandable. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:02, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Careful! You nearly got archived! I've got it set right down to 36 hours at the minute, but I'll probably bump it up to 48 when I'm not giving rights out at the speed of light. I'm always happy to help- I seriously need to spend more time in the mainpsace- most of my recent mainspace edits have been protections, reverts or dealing with BLP issues. Perhaps you'd help me out with Lily Cole when we've finished Eckhart? I'd love to get her up to FA she's so pretty ;) and the article is in pretty good condition. Speaking of actresses, I stumbled across Kirsten Dunst's name here in a Google News search for Lily. I don;t know if it's much use. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:27, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I know, I know, I know, I know, I know [about the archiving bit]. Well, these are your duties now as an admin., it takes you away from the stuff before, you know. Yeah, after Eckhart I'd love to help out with Lily Cole... it's only fair. :) I'll take a look at the article and see. Man, now this sucks that Pitt's article has been unprotected, and this supposed Scientology stuff. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 23:44, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh snap, I believe your response was remove or something. Sure, what's the advice you want? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:03, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
I actually put him up for this new pending changes milarky, it might actually make a difference and if it doesn't, I can always re-protect it or ask another admin to do it since I'm probably too involved with the article to making admin actions there. The scientology stuff will probably blow over soon enough- it's not like it's a major part of his life, so I see no point in including it other than to be controversial. You've got yourself a deal- I'll help you with Eckhart, then you help me with Lily. ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:46, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
It was you?!!!!!!! How could you? I thought we were friends... I'm just kidding. ;) I was like 'Why Pitt's article?' Oh well, I guess. Hopefully it does blow over, cause this just came out of nowhere. Excellent doing work with ya. :P --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:03, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it was me! They're looking for 2000 articles that have had a long history of protection or have been problematic, so I added in Pitt since they want a wide variety and there aren't that many indefinitely protected BLP FAs. I thought about adding Lindsay Lohan to the list, but I don;t think it would last a day before it had to be re-protected! So when do you want to start with Eckhart? :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:11, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
*cough* Angelina Jolie *cough* Oh no, with what's going on in her PL it's sure to be a "prize" for these vandals. I think I'll start with some copy-edits here and there today. After that, I guess we can begin. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:37, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, some articles are just a magnet for vandals- have you seen the recent history of Tom Cruise? They unprotected bible as well. That didn't last long! You do your copy editing and stuff then and I'll come and join you when I've had something to eat and I've figured out why there are 200-and something candidates for speedy deletion! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:41, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I saw Cruise's history, cause I wondered if Jolie's article was unprotected, cause I was in Pitt's article and clicked "what links here", but didn't saw her just Cruise. Why the Bible? That's not smart, especially when it comes to debates if it's real or not, or whatever. I'm surprised the Wikipedia article, itself, wasn't unprotected. Oh well. Oh, go eat something, you need your strength, God know I almost passed out cause I didn't have my breakfast, so take it from me who almost passed out. Really? 200 for speedy deletion? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:47, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm done with my read-through of Eckhart's article, and whenever your available I would appreciate your input. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:12, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh dear. The morons are back! :) I'll cast my eye over it now I've had something to eat! I know you removed it, but i'd already thought about my reply, so I don't necessarily disagree with those diffs (disclaimer:I'm offering an editorial opinion, not an admin decision, I can see the point he's making- we have to strike a balance between being comprehensive and including every little detail the tabloids see fit to report. It is a difficult balance to strike, though and I think some of the stuff removed in those diffs might be worthy of inclusion, but it could probably be trimmed before being added back. You might want to take it to the talk pages to discuss it.... HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:59, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Yup, I first saw that vandalism from your talkpage pop up on my watchlist, I checked it out, and I was going to revert it but I was beaten to it. I ended up removing the non-notable for Schwimmer (who don't have articles). Alright, the hidden notes in Eckhart. He moved from California to England, he dropped out of high school during his last year, and the POV thing isn't POV cause I've used that bit on Maggie Gyllenhaal's article, and wasn't a problem. I hope I've addressed your concerns. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:26, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough, as long as you know the difference between England, the United Kingdom and Great Britain- it seems even your esteemed Secretary of State doesn't know! ;) I'll work my way through the rest of the article later today. Those morons have been coming and going for a few weeks after I deleted a few rather unpleasant edit summaries from a page-move vandal. Evidently they haven't got bored of me yet! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:39, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
I do... cause I've "travelled" there. :) She should know, she's a very smart lady. Alright, cool. The article is short, I know, it's not like Pitt, but if you got suggestions I'll be happy to hear them out. ;) Oh, I know. There was an IP who kept harassing me over a dispute at an article, but stopped, I wonder why? I'll keep an eye out if any more vandalism returns, I know your talkpage is protected, but you never know, you know. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:45, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
It was only protected for a couple of hours- that usually stops them. I've got it on permanent move protection, though, so that only admins can move it just in case they get any ideas! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
I'll still keep an eye out, cause you a friend. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 15:19, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello again, when you get the chance could you please look at Juana Inés de la Cruz. Apparently the edit summaries are quite explicit though I don't understand them as they're in another language. Is it possible to remove them? --5 albert square (talk) 23:15, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Done. It's Spanish so I did a Google translation and the content was, er, nothing pleasant, even if it is in Spanish. Yes, it is possible to remove stuff like that through RevDel (a new toy admins have been given that used to be restricted to oversigthers). Beautiful signatures

  • Hi friend, Would you please tell me how to create beautiful signatures in Wikipedia like yours?$Max Viwe$ (talk) 12:17, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) You may find some useful information here: it includes how HJ Mitchell created their signature and also how I created mine - when my signature was more interesting than it is now ;-) TFOWR 12:23, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I just created mine  . You need to have a bit of HTML knowledge. If there is a signature you like, you can view the source and copy the code.  Davtra  (talk) 12:30, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, these stalkers are certainly handy! The code for mine is: [[User:HJ Mitchell|<span style="font-family:'Tahoma'; color:Teal;">'''HJ Mitchell'''</span>]] | [[User talk:HJ Mitchell|<span style="font-family:'Times New Roman'; color:Navy;">Penny for your thoughts? </span>] to give you an idea of how it works, but you're not allowed to copy it because I like being the only one with a teal and navy blue signature! ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:47, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Would you please tell me how to use the code?Max Viwe (talk) 14:54, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
There's a guide here that might be useful, but basically there's a box in your preferences where you can enter the code to change it. The same box you put those dollar signs in to put them in your sig. :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:19, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)You can use the code by going to Special:Preferences, going down to the box that says signature, and adding the text. (You have to check the box that says Treat my Signature as wikitext. To find the HTML tags you can use go to HTML in wikitext. Mr. R00t Talk 15:24, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Barnstar

  • Hi friend,

What are the barn stars and how to earn them? Would you please tell me?Max Viwe | Wanna chat with me? 16:58, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) WP:Barnstar- You earn them by being good. When someone thinks you've done something exceptional they give you one. Mr. R00t Talk 17:07, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
They're things that nice people give you when you help them out or they think you're doing a good job. If you stick around WP and get involved, write some good stuff, I'm sure you'll earn plenty. As I'm sure you've seen, I have quite a few, but I've been around for a while. Btw, you might want to change that pipe character in your sig (|) to | It shows up the same, but the pipe character can bugger templates up. :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:10, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

THANK YOU.

For the raccoon article help. TWinkle, to be blunt, sucks and wouldnt load the form to revert to a previous version. Thank you once again HJ.  – Tommy [message] 18:24, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

I tried it with Twinkle but it wouldn't load- I think it's because so many other people were editing it, but 5 minutes of full protection seems to have done the trick and it let me revert back to a clean version. I'm keeping an eye on it, though. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:27, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

As to the recent vandalism, it wasn't me, or it wasn't my intent. I noticed the vandalism to the intro section of the FA and leaped in to fix it. It seems that several others were doing the same thing at the same time, and signals may have been crossed (it took an inordinately long time for the server to respond); maybe I undid someone else's simultaneous undo and restored the vandalism? You'll notice that I got the missing first paragraph back where it belonged a moment later (18:08: vandalism restoration), once my failure to do it earlier became apparent. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 18:33, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

15 HOURS

You missed out on posting Nauru? What if you bolded Graeme McDowell and said Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland wins the 2010 U.S. Open Golf Championship, the first U.S. Open winner of European origin since 1970. I've had to update him twice now after the mysterious disappearance of citations overnight. TICK. TICK. TICK. TICK. Goes the timer. --candlewicke 00:22, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

What, am I the only bloody admin who ever checks that bloody Main Page? How did anything get done before I got the bit? Let me have a look at McDowell. And stop with the ticking! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:33, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
It would seem so. It didn't. Hopefully I don't come back tomorrow to find the citations replaced with [citation needed] again but at least it's on the Main Page now. If I were a monarch I would give you a knighthood - for your noble efforts in fending off the timer which strikes fear deep into all our hearts - but alas I am not. ;) --candlewicke 01:07, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm sure I remember something getting done before I got the bit. You could always help me out by going through an RfA and becoming the official Deputy Main Page Admin! ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:14, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Out of curiosity (and slight boredom) I feel I should ask if there is anything I can do to help... :) Mr. R00t Talk 01:33, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Stick WT:ITN, T:ITN, WP:ITN/C and WP:ERRORS on your watchlist, offer thoughts, blurbs, suggestions, tweaks, point out errors etc. What we really need is another admin or two since all the pages that need to be edited are fully protected, but more non-admins being generally helpful around ITN and the MP can't hurt and you can earn yourself a few ITN credits while you're there. For example, right now there's an article on a flooding and an article on a train derailment that need someone to spend an hour or two on them before they can go up. That also saves the timer at the top of this page from turning red! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:40, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I really don't have an hour as I should be looking through a report for work but I'll put off the work and help out :). As for the flooding and train derailment they sound fun as disaster articles are fairly interesting for me. Could you tell me the problems with them first or will they be obvious? Mr. R00t Talk 01:49, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

2010 South China floods for the flooding and what for the derailment? Mr. R00t Talk 01:57, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Gah! (edit conflict)! They're just too short at the moment (you'll find them by scrolling down WP:ITN/C), so they need a bit of TLC and some decent references. They don't have to be FA length, just long enough that anyone who clicks it from the Main Page would know what it was about, so you want details like casualties, dates, places and whatever else you can dredge up from Google News! :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:00, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

bad use of rd3

I haven't contributed anything that's purely disruptive. I'd like to get it corrected. Please contact me. --Ring Cinema (talk) 05:29, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) OK, I'm unfamiliar with the background to this, and several edits (by an IP) have been oversighted, but it looks to me as if the only RD3'd edits were the IP's - however, some of their oversighted edits were to your talkpage. Off hand I'm not seeing any suggestion that you contributed anything "worthy" of RD3. I can help further with this, if you have a diff of a particular edit (if it's oversighted I won't be able to see the edit itself, but I will be able to see who made it, what the edit summary was, etc). TFOWR 09:49, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I won't comment on the exact content for obvious reasons, but from what I can see the edits were correct to be hidden. I will send you an e-mail too HJ, if you could check it. Thanks. --Taelus (Talk) 10:04, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
What was hidden and why? 'Oversighted'? I don't know what that means. Sorry to bother you, but my suspicion is that another editor is abusing this procedure for reasons of incorrigibility. I am quite sure that nothing I have contributed needs to be hidden for any reason. --Ring Cinema (talk) 12:40, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Sock puppetry

  • Hi,

I want to know why Wikipedia is being very aggressive to Sock puppet accounts?I've just saw many Wikipedians whose edit counts are near 10,000 but were blocked because of sock puppet account.Max Viwe | Wanna chat with me? 11:00, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

The general rule is "one person, one account," which is particularly important since the site operates on consensus; offering an opinion with more than one account makes that position seem more popular than it actually is. There are very strict rules under which someone may have an alternate account; you should check out WP:SOCK and stop by again if you have any questions!--~TPW 14:45, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Indeed there are a few legitimate uses for alternative accounts, for example, I have one, which I sometimes use when I need to concentrate on something without getting distracted by admin buttons or new messages and so I can log in from a possibly insecure computer without risking my admin account, but it's perfectly clear from its userpage and signature that the account belongs to me. Reviewing

So can you answer (or point me to the page that can) a flagged revisions pending changes question? I just got notified of one, and when I clicked the link it diff I got included both the most recent revision (which was pending) and the prior revision (which was accepted). I went back through the history again and then forward and saw each diff separately. Is this a bug, or the intended functionality? Without a pending change I don't think I can replicate it, but I will see if it happens again and if it provides a link that I can show you.--~TPW 14:42, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I think it's supposed to be like that. I think it's the difference between the most recent accepted version and the new edit by the IP or new account. That should allow you to tell if it's vandalism or not. Does that answer your question or have I missed the point? :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:18, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Barack Obama and WP:PEND

No, no worries about your protection. When I'd looked at it I thought it was pretty constant vandalism, but I was thinking more about readers and less about editors - and I've been inclined to let the WP:PEND trial run as much as it can. But it did get me thinking about using pending changes if it goes live, and I'd definitely want to move articles like this one to semi under live conditions.

Incidentally, there's a thread at WP:AN which I've just commented at, which relates to this. I mention this partly because I used Barack Obama as an example ;-)

I wish WP:PEND assigned the probability of an editor's change/edit standing is. For example, looking at my contribs, 9 out 10 posts are live (rough numbers. Now, if we had a straight-up vandal with a probability of 0 percent, that would make looking at the pending change easier. Or better yet, if the system could look at contribs and decide that the editor's probability of successful live edits is low, then the edit should go to WP:PEND. ----moreno oso (talk) 18:13, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

This is also a long running gag about a month long or so. I came here to HJ's page probably late at night and was freaked by the kitty staring at me. I forgot about that, came back again and felt like a mouse looking like din-din for somebody else. Gradually over time, I have "gotten over" the kitty and now have some laughs with it. I noticed a comment you made at User talk:Huey45 stated "This is totally unacceptable and I will block you if there's a repeat." Hey, you

I made all of one edit to this whole place after you pestered me. (I got really busy today after about 8 AM local, actually). The banner says I'll get around to doing what you asked "sooner or later", even though I didn't watch a second of the World Cup today, it was still valid in that point. Remember when the orange bar went off once very other day or so? What happened to that? As to tomorrow, England had better win, and the U.S. deserves to go home for how they have played, but Group C has been rather wacky. Courcelles (talk) 03:21, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I haven't had that in months! I remember when it was novel to see the orange bar ("ooh, someone likes me" [or "oh, shit, what have I done now"])! I hope they win, but frankly they've been shite- drawing against the US and Algeria! If that's the best we can do, we ain't staying in the World Cup for very long, but to not even make it out of the group stage would be humiliating. Random thought of the morning... Have you ever noticed how in some ways it is easier to write your own article than go back and reference someone else's work? Courcelles (talk) 12:31, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
But if there are no references, then how can one reference?  Davtra  (talk) 12:36, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
That's really hard! I was thinking of the situation where no inline citations were included, but having to research someone else's prose de novo is bloody well impossible. Courcelles (talk) 13:17, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I know! It's not impossible, but it's bloody hard work! It makes you feel like you'd be better off deleting it and starting again from scratch! I'm trying to re-write Nick Parker at the minute- considering how much attention the article's likely to attract over the next few days and weeks, it makes sense to give the people something to read! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:15, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
Nice work on the article. I compared it with the version before you edited it. I still have this nightmare to go through: vuvuzela. I rewrote the article and now I have this "Controversy" section to go through.  Davtra  (talk) 23:18, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh, you'll have fun with that! Didn't I handle an RfPP request for that a couple of weeks ago? Pages in pending changes

Is there a place where articles that need to be on the pending changes can be requested? Do articles have to already be semi-protected and if they are, besides going to RPP, how can that be accomplished. I'm thinking in particular of Jamie Lynn Spears, which is a high target page for BLP violations and other problematic edits. I may come across others and it would help to know what needs to be done. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 15:50, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

You'd think they'd make that a bit more obvious, wouldn't you! WP:PCQ is the place to request it. If you cite the BLP issues, you should get it. I don't think it has to be protected currently to qualify, but I'm not important enough to make that call! :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:54, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I agree, everything about this trial is hard to find. But that just makes it tastier, huh? Wildhartlivie (talk) 22:08, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Userboxen

Since you like NCIS, I thought I would draw your attention to the userbox for NCIS: Los Angeles. Not sure if that is on yet in the UK (their first season just ended here in May). Give a look-see here for the NCIS: LA userbox, if you watch the show. - NeutralHomerTalk • 01:47, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

I've not seen the LA spinoff. I think they've got it on Sky at the minute so I expect it'll be next year before those of us who don't want to pay extortionate amounts of money for satellite TV get to see it! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:54, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah, gotcha. You might, not sure on this, be able to check iTunes and get the whole first season for super cheap. I really enjoyed it as it has this high-techy secret-agent kinda feel to it, but still has the same feel NCIS does as well. The episodes will hold your attention and there are still parts to make you chuckle too (like NCIS). - NeutralHomerTalk • 02:03, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, I just checked and the whole series isn't out yet, but a few of the individual episodes are up so I might buy the first one in the morning, but right now I'm watching The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which, apart from being a bloody good film, stars a very, very, pretty (red haired) actress! ;) I'm also writing an article for the guy who seems to have found himself in charge of Afghanistan because your general couldn't keep his trap shut! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:11, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
I also gave the NCIS: LA article a look-see and it seems the Region 2 DVD set for Season 1 should be out soon too. Probably cheaper to get the iTunes version though. Yeah, McChrystal said some stupid things in Rolling Stone. What confuses me is why there is always an American in charge, why not a Brit or a Frenchman? Seems there is more yelling that Obama fired McChrystal now, oh joy. We will be hearing that for weeks over here. There are days I wish I was Canadian, honestly. - NeutralHomerTalk • 02:25, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
I'll keep an eye out for that on Amazon, then. I'm not a great fan of downloading something I can only play on my computer. I suppose it's always a yank because they do have the largest contingent of troops by quite some way. I don't know exactly how many US troops there are out there, but the UK only has 9500 (with a few hundred special forces that, for obvious reasons, nobody can put a number on). If only he'd kept his mouth shut. Perhaps he got bored of his job? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:51, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
According to the Wikipedia page, the US has 78,430 in Afghanistan, but that could have changed, so that is a rough number. Says the UK has 10,200, but I guess that has gone down too. Might need someone to come along and update those numbers and source them too. I think McChrystal, if I heard correctly, had been there since 2003, so that has got to take a toll, plus he had been in service since '76, so that is more than 30 years in uniform. - NeutralHomerTalk • 03:04, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry

Hi HJ!

Just to let you know, there's a sockpuppetry case going on that you may be interested in at [[1]]. It's just I noticed this sockpuppeteer vandalising your page before, I caught another new user making the same sort of edits on another sysops page so decided to raise an SPI and request check user to see if there's any sleeping accounts.

See, it's handy having a talk page stalker sometimes isn't it?! And one that comes armed with Twinkle and Huggle in a flash! :p --5 albert square (talk) 23:15, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Ah, no match for a banhammer! ;) We'll see what comes of the SPI, but I doubt a CU would turn up much. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:22, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Heehee, it's the next closest thing to a banhammer if you're not an admin! I honestly don't know if a CU will turn up anything either but as there was a couple of IPs making similar edits the other day that's why I thought I'd request it. If they don't think it'll turn up anything they'll simply say no. Then again I remember the first time I raised an SPI, CU said no to the check, changed their mind, did the check and then found an entire sock farm! So you never know, we could be wrong! --5 albert square (talk) 23:29, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Soooooo, been upsetting people again tonight have we?! :p Just a shame that CU said they wouldn't really be of any assistance as it seems to be more meatpuppetry than sockpuppetry :( --5 albert square (talk) 22:49, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism

Do not refer to others' edits as "vandalism" unless the edit clearly meets the description at Wikipedia:Vandalism and you could legitimately claim a Three-revert rule exception. Edit warring under the guise of reverting vandalism is a blockable offence and could be construed as a personal attack. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:59, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

The status which this edit and this edit by Off2riorob clearly left the article without references and with damage which met Wikipedia:Vandalism. Further, there was an insufficient edit summary on both occasions. I thank you for your note, but stand by my actions having followed the stated rules, particularly in light of the agreed keeping of the statements after the discussion at WP:BLPN which Off2riorob took part in and agreed with. Rgds, --Trident13 (talk) 18:20, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Read the first sentence of WP:VAND. Then read the first 3 sentences of the second paragraph, particularly the bit that says "edits/reverts over a content dispute are never vandalism". HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:29, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Delusions of Grandeur (Circle II Circle album)

Hi, You deleted this article but there are a handful of links to it, now redlinks (I came across it while tidying Delusions of grandeur (disambiguation) where I've now added a blue link). Should the redlinks all be unlinked, or should the article have been replaced by a redirect to the band? (I notice that the previous couple of albums by same band have articles). PamD (talk) 20:21, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

It was deleted via the proposed deletion (PROD) system, so it's entirely up to you. If you want to re-create it or redirect it, be my guest, if not, I have a script that can unlink back links, so I'll do that if you want. Up to you. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:24, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't sure how much responsibility a deleter was supposed to take for tidying up incoming links. The articles for the other records seem equally unsourced (well, on a sample of one of them), suggesting that the article is unlikely to be successfully re-created. I've turned it into a redirect to the band article, and unlinked the entry for it in the discography in that article. I have no interest in the topic except in trying to tidy up dab page and other bits of WP! Thanks. PamD (talk) 20:48, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
No worries. :) In general, I try to remember to unlink them, but I don't think there's any formal guideline or policy on it and when trying to work through a pile of several hundred PRODs, it's easily overlooked! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:01, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
