Many thanks for your thoughtful close. I may be disappointed about the outcome, but not your effort. It is not your fault that the 0.1%ers despise us, the SPA, with all their heart and soul. I have but one complaint, or more like a request: would you kindly check your privilege?
If I go to see Tommy (album), Tommy can't see me or hear me as there is no edit button, and hence no edit window. At least not in sight: I might be a few clowns short of a circus (the first time I saw a full-protected page I thought that that page could only be edited by WP:CABAL, the first time I saw a semi-protected page I thought that only cabal initiates are allowed to correct simple factual errors, until I finally understood that all pages are controlled by the cabal), but it seems highly illogical to me that I have to click View source link, with my SPA fingers, to see the edit window – which I discovered only after testing what happens if I go to this URL. There is a blue lock icon, but how much that will help, really?
If Tommy goes mobile, and I click the edit icon, Tommy will hear me and say This page is protected to prevent vandalism.
If I ask them "why", Tommy seems to be completely unreceptive.
By the way, I found your close because I went to WP:RPP (only to discover something that I already knew: that I'm slow), and happened to see something which implies that this new policy is confusing – even to the privileged. Politrukki (talk) 23:43, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Good close of Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Extended confirmed protection policy.
One thing worth pointing out though: You said "BethNaught's suggestion on the talk page to send a mass message to all admins informing them of the policy for use of extended confirmed protection is one I endorse". However, I don't think any such message has been sent. Certainly, I haven't received one.
On that thread of the talk page, conversation quickly turned to a bot for summarising the use of ECP on AN, which is a different thing. Also, before suggesting the bot MusikAnimal argued that such a message shouldn't be necessary.
Personally, I am neutral on whether a message goes out, but I just thought I should point out the situation.

I may comment as an editor when I have time and once I've found my copy of Jackson's book (I have several of his other books, but I can't find that one!). - Did you read the notice at the top? It says "This protection is not an endorsement of the current version" (emphasis original). Whichever version I protected would have been the wrong one. And blocking one or both of you for edit-warring would have been wrong too. But allowing you to revert ad infinitum would have been even more wrong. FAC voluntary mentoring scheme
During a recent lengthy discussion on the WP:FAC talkpage, several ideas were put forward as to how this procedure could be improved, particularly in making it more user-friendly towards first-time nominees. The promotion rate for first-timers at FAC is depressingly low – around 16 percent – which is a cause for concern. To help remedy this, Mike Christie and I, with the co-operation of the FAC coordinators, have devised a voluntary mentoring scheme, in which newcomers will guided by more experienced editors through the stages of preparation and submission of their articles. The general format of the scheme is explained in more detail on Wikipedia: Mentoring for FAC, which also includes a list of editors who have indicated that they are prepared to act as mentors.
Would you be prepared to take on this role occasionally? If so, please add your name to the list. By doing so you incur no obligation; it will be entirely for you to decide how often and on which articles you want to act in this capacity. Hi there Hary and page stalkers. I've started a new initiative, the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. It's a long term goal to bring about 10,000 article improvements to the UK and Ireland. Through two contests involving just six or seven weeks of editing so far we've produced over 1500 improvements. Long term if we have more people chipping it and adding articles they've edited independently as well from all areas of the UK then reaching that target is all possible. I think it would be an amazing achievement to see 10,000 article improvements by editors chipping in. If you support this and think you might want to contribute towards this long term please sign up in the Contributors section. No obligations, just post work on anything you feel like whenever you want, though try to avoid basic stubs if possible as we're trying to reduce the overall stub count and improve general comprehension and quality. If or when I finish that project, I might return to Caludon Castle and try and get that to FA standard with the help of a book that was published after I wrote the GA. And then who knows; there are all sorts of articles on the Troubles I want to write, Police use of firearms in the United Kingdom has been on my to-do list for years (I've even got the books for that), or maybe just more war memorials... Camisards and the Cévennes
I have found this rich source of blood, gore and atrocities which we have barely touched. Can you have a look over Camisard and make a few suggestions, and add a massacre or two. There are two nice online references with further details, comment and original documents. Richards
Hi - I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that we need to semi-protect David Richards, Baron Richards of Herstmonceux. I see the article has been changed twice today. The IP seems insistent on referring to the the "late" Lady Richards. As far as I know she is still very much alive! I guess the IP has some of sort of grudge against her. Thanks for getting involved. - Are we really arguing about punctuation? Seriously? Do we have nothing better to do. If the whole encyclopaedia was written and completed while I was at work last night then my apologies, argue away but last time I looked my war memorial articles weren't writing themselves.
As for discretionary sanctions, I'll speak in general terms (I'm really not the person you want enforcing the MoS sanctions unless you want blanket topic bans for anyone who prefers arguing about punctuation to writing articles). The procedure is set out at WP:ACDS, but to summarise the key points:
- If there's any thought of sanctioning somebody, they need to be aware that discretionary sanctions are in play (normally this means they have to be templated, but there are other ways if somebody is pretending not to be aware)
- Anybody imposing sanctions must be an uninvovled admin (for "uninvolved", read "squeaky clean"—no history with the sanctioned editor, no history in the topic area, etc; for example, I don't admin on articles related to Gibraltar or the Northern Ireland Troubles because I've written articles in those topic areas)
- If somebody continues to cause a problem after being aware of the discretionary sanctions, then an uninvolved admin can impose sanctions; I usually start with the minimum necessary—a warning, a ban from a page or discussion—but they can range all the way up to topic bans, bans from the entire subject area, or even sitebans.
- The only way they're different from normal admin actions is that they give a slightly broader range of options than an admin has on their own authority, and they're irreversible, except by a consensus of uninvolved admins (or an ArbCom ruling, but ArbCom will only rule on whether it's a reasonable exercise of discretion).

1. Your Sandhurst War Memorial coord points to a location in Wargrave (think cut & paste error). 2. Your Wargrave War Memorial points to a tree 30 yards to the west of the war memorial - at least on Acme Maps, which I tend to use, and which iirc behaves as Bing, GoogleMaps, etc. 3. You used about 1,000,000dp, which I've cut down to 7 for now.
So. On to the questions: any objection if I point the Wargrave article at 51.49926 -0.87210? I don't want to mess with your work if you think your coords are accurate.

Input Sought
Hey HJ, I saw that you offered moral support during my ultimately-withdrawn RFA. First off I would like to thank you for that, it means a lot. Secondly, I see that the common thread that those opposing my RFA offered is that I should make more content, specifically some GAs, FAs, etc. My question then is what is specifically meant by that? Surely it can't mean guiding an article entirely from creation, through the quality levels, all the way up to FA status? (The barnstar I'm thinking of for that escapes me at the moment but I'm sure you know the one.) To be honest that seems rather insurmountable when applied on a multiple-article scale. - t/p/s Hi there RK. The best way to go about these things (in my opinion) is firstly to join an on-WP project group, such as WP:MILHIST. It depends on what your interests are, but you can be sure a group exists on here which would cover them. Here is a useful link. Wikipedia:Wikiproject. Join one, and in effect you are in a specialised working group with subject experts. They invariably have their own on-WP "sites" with a dedicated talk page, and most importantly articles that are currently being built up to GA or FA status. They invariably list them. Then interact with the members, and assist in an article improvement project. If it reaches a GA status you will often be recognised officially by the group as a participant, and get a thankyou, and you can legitimately put it up on your User page. I have a couple, so you can check my page out. Joining is a great way of developing your article creation input, and gets you known. I recommend it. Simon. - @RegistryKey: Good to hear from you. I remember your RfA well. I was torn because I though the opposers raised some reasonable points but my gut feeling was that you'd make a decent admin. Ultimately I thought it was a bit too early, but I'm glad you're still thinking about it. As for what people expect in terms of content, most people want enough to show that you're an experienced editor. You should be able to demonstrate that you understand the core policies and you can apply them in practice. It's not a ridiculous request, even though admins have very little say over content issues—admins have to weigh up arguments at AfD, for example, or are often called upon to close RfCs; we have to be able to tell the difference between vandalism and legitimate editors; and content work hones lots of other skills that are surprisingly useful as an admin. I don't think most people expect a featured article (the barnstar, by the way, is the Four Award I happen to have one, but only one), though how much is 'enough' is something everyone has their own opinions on. Simon's advice is sound—find something you're interested in and then look for gaps in Wikipedia's coverage. In my experience, once you start digging down you quickly find something that needs work. You could try writing a few short but respectable articles and putting them up for DYK, or adopting a neglected article and fleshing it out with help from some new sources and seeing where that takes you. Perhaps get a gazetteer or a biographical dictionary on Amazon and thumb through that if you're struggling for inspiration. As for actually structuring an article, look at similar articles and adapt the style for your needs; once you've got the facts and the references in, you can play around with the format
None of that is a golden ticket to adminship, but I think you're sensible enough to know that. It's a solid foundation that you can build on; with that and more experience in the admin areas you're interested in (more insightful comments at AfD not just scattergun votes, clearly explained reports at AIV/RfPP—remember, the admins in those areas know who the regulars are who make their lives easier) you should be in with a good chance. Extended confirmed protection
Hello, HJ Mitchell. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.

Dartmoor Trust
I was at a wedding today- and fell into conversation with Tony, who was talking about how to manage the image archive and factual knowledge base that the Trust he chairs holds. He likes Wikipedia concept and was thinking of doing something similar to what Wikimedia software does and have articles and a database of their library of scans. He didn't realise that WM software is free. He is based near Dartmouth- and happy with concept of a partnership- and even happier when I explained that it has been done on Monmouth and we had this volunteer in Bideford/Barnstable who would be happy to meet up and explain it further. - @Kelly: the place to look is WP:DSLOG, which shows that the ban is still in force (if it had been revoked or successfully appealed there would be a note appended with a link to the talk page discussion or appeal). I don't have time to investigate now and can't guarantee I will before the end of the week. Your best bet is probably to file a report at WP:AE and ping me from it so that it'll get admin attention quickly and I'll look when I have chance. Restoring Deleted Page: Chris Westphal
HJ -- thanks for the guidance and help in trying to get my page restored.
About 6-7 years ago, a Wiki entry for my work and related contributions (others had created) was posted to Wikipedia. At the time, I was a founder and CEO of Visual Analytics - a company that was acquired by Raytheon in 2013.
The entry disappeared and I finally spent some time (recently) tracking it down and it shows: 02:47, 8 June 2010 HJ Mitchell (talk | contribs) deleted page Chris Westphal (Expired PROD, concern was: Notability, orphan)
At that time (2010), I had published several books and was running a successful company - however, it was probably not enough to remain included in Wiki (in light of what many others have achieved in the same community). A number of years has passed and with the sale to Raytheon and some other work/project I've been associated with - I'd like to request the reversal of this "deletion" (contest the PROD) and get the page un-deleted and published back into Wikipedia.
Thank you for the consideration -- and please let me know if there is anything other information required at this time.

Can you downgrade protection to PC? Vandalism either is rare or has not occurred for four years. Also, monthly amount of IP vandals would be one to three, making vandalism less likely to be frequent, in contrast to Barney's Big Surprise, which had a bunch of registered vandals but very little amount of vicious IPs. --George Ho (talk) 09:23, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
