City of Overland Park page edits

I work in the City Manager's office for the City of Overland Park. We are attempting to update expired or inaccurate information on the City of Overland Park Wikipedia page. I am the Communications Director and I would like to remove the religions section from the site and add some additional and expanded information to existing subjects. This content has been approved by the City Manager John Nachbar.

While we at the City of Overland Park understand the City has no right to control the subject matter on this site, we feel it is inaccurate in some areas and needs to be updated and expanded to reflect current city statistical information. If this is a problem, or not consistant to Wikipedia standards, could you please explain why. We have seen other organizations, companies, agencies that have been able to post information about themselves. This does not seem to be consistant with why you have reverted our changes.

Please contact me to discuss these concerns at sean.reilly@opkansas.org.

Thank you.

Sean Reilly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cityofop (talkcontribs) 19:54, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia Sean. Just to let your aware, I serve in no official capacity here at Wiki. Some things you might like to read before you begin making changes are Wikipedia's policies and guidelines especially the policies on verifiability and maintaining a neutral point of view. You should also be aware that Wikipedia discourages editors from editing pages in which they may possess a conflict of interest.

To address some of your more specific points I reverted your edits because they:

  • Removed a referenced and appropriate section (Religion)
  • Did not adhere to a neutral point of view ("The City boasts four outstanding school districts")
  • contained unfocused and off-topic "touristy" material (such as the paragraph about the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead]].
  • Contained no inline citations or references
  • Contained inappropriate external links (http://www.opkansas.org/_Res/Parks_and_Recreation/index.cfm) see Wikipedia Policy on External links.
  • Deleted census data (other population estimates can be used, with references, as a supplement.)

Other than that I encourage you to update as much as possible just try to avoid paragraphs like:

"Overland Park's reputation as a safe and secure community is the result of many things, including a low crime rate; proactive, community-oriented law enforcement; and the effort of active, informed citizens and neighborhood groups working together. For up to date crime statistics, go to the City website at [www.opkansas.org]."

They sound overly promotional and contain few concrete facts. On the other hand you could say something like "OP has the lowest crime rate in Kansas<reference>" Anyways, best of luck editing and let me know if you have any further questions. Hope I could help! Grey Wanderer (talk) 20:45, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Grey Wanderer, I appreciate your feedback about the Wikipedia requirements and the reasons you provided about the edits you deleted. I do, however, have some questions. I notice since the last time I had a chance to work on this the content has been changed slightly reflecting some of the information I added. However, there is some content that is incorrect that should be updated.

First of all, the city was incorporated in 1960 as a first class city, not second. [1] It now covers 75.33 square miles of land. [2]

Why was the information I included on City government removed? remohttp://apps.opkansas.org/City-Government/Agendas-and-Minutes/Finance-Administration-and-Economic-Development/Agendas/2004/2004-12-15/DIS-1-3.PDFved. This is verifiable information in the city charter which is attached (link).

GOVERNMENT Overland Park is governed a Mayor-Council-City Manager form of government. The Mayor is the chief executive and the 12 elected council members the legislative body. The Mayor is elected by the entire city, and members of the city council are elected from six different geographic wards, which have approximately equal populations. The mayor serves a four-year term. Two council members are elected from each of the six wards and serve a staggered term. The current mayor (2009) is Carl Gerlach.

I also don't understand why the information on transportation was removed and replaced with one line as that also is verifiable and accurate.

TRANSPORTATION

The largest area airport is Kansas City International Airport located in northwest Kansas City, Mo. This airport handles about 10 million passengers every year with about 240 daily departures to 70 destinations. [3]

Interstate 35 cuts through the western edge of Overland Park. US 69 highway runs concurrently with I 35 for a short distance in Overland Park then branches off to function as a major north-south artery through the city. Interstate 435, which circles the metro area, also travels through Overland Park. Interstate 70 which travels east-west through the country also travels just north of Overland Park.

Why was the expanded information for the schools and library system taken out? This information was obtained directly from the schools districts and the library.

EDUCATION AND LIBRARIES

The City also has four school districts. Blue Valley District’s enrollment has increased every year since 1975. There are 20,590 students enrolled in the 2008-2009 academic year. Shawnee Mission School District is the largest in Johnson County, occupying approximately 72 square miles in the northeast part of the county. Portions of the Olathe School District are located in Overland Park. This district enrolls 27,776 students. The Spring Hill School District encompasses 71 square miles and includes students from Overland Park and other cities in the area, as well as the unincorporated areas of Johnson County.

The Johnson County Library system has 12 neighborhood libraries and a Central Resource Library. It is ranked seventh in the country in the 250,000 population category. It is also ranked in the top 10 libraries serving a population of 250,000 – 499,000 and has held that position for over 10 years.

In 2005 Johnson County Library was named one of the recipients of the prestigious 2005 National Award for Library Service. This is the nation's highest honor for extraordinary community service. Many of the library's programs and services that led to these award achievements include: outreach services to the homebound, incarcerated and the learning disabled; services for senior citizens, preschool and child care providers; resources and services for businesses; diversity training and programming; cultural programming; community issues forums; and partnership initiatives for community health and juvenile justice Web pages.

I understand and agree with the point you made about the crime statistics and can certainly make that change with the appropriate references.

If adding the above information is a question of providing sources, I had those and was going to add them after I went to lunch but when I got back you had removed everything I had added.

My main question is why other similar sized cities have much more informative sites than we seem to be allowed. I have attached links to two, Napierville, IL [4] and Des Moines, IA [5]. These two sites have lengthy paragraphs about their history, transportation, schools, libraries, tourism and local government.

I have read Wikipedia Your First Article and the section on citing sources. I believe the rewrites and source information should be acceptable, but if not let me know how I can improve them.Cityofop (talk) 18:01, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Your rewrites sound much better. Understand that wikipedia is constantly changing, thats why the article looks so different today, than the last time you edited. Also remember there is no rush, when in doubt it's better to wait and add your information with sources than rush to "publish." As far as comparing the OP page to other city pages, I'd stay away from that, quantity is not the same as quality. There are some small changes that probably need to be made to your suggested info above, (remove external links, don't describe awards as prestigious let them stand on there own, pair down the library info a bit, and make sure you add references for awards, stats ect,) Your free to go ahead and make any edits you want to the page, just remember all wikipedia edits get mercilessly edited. You recently deleted an addition that I placed on the University of Central Missouri page entitled "Earl Edwin Pitts", why? I cited the source. I am reversing your edit. Mlbrockhouse (talk) 01:07, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

The person does not meet the requirements for WP:Notability. The edit you reversed also deleted other changes. Thanks. Grey Wanderer (talk) 20:51, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

On second look, I added him back. At first I was unsure about the source, but with the creation of the wiki article and some googling looks like he meets WP:Notability fairly easily.
Thanks. Mlbrockhouse (talk) 20:42, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

History of Webster University

I am a full-time staff members and maintain the Web site for Webster University. I also wrote the text regarding the University's history. Why did you remove it from the Webster University page? Is there a better way to cite it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patrickpowers59 (talkcontribs) 19:13, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

I removed it because at first glance it looked like a copy-paste job of copyright material. If you are the copyright holder than you may added your own work to Wikipedia. Just be aware that Webster's own material likely won't adhere to wikipedia's policy of WP:Neutrality. Grey Wanderer (talk) 20:51, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Let me amend that to say if you are the "author" or copyrighted material you may add it to wikipedia. WP:Copyright will explain it better. Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:57, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Notable people edit

You recently reversed an addition that I placed on the Ste. Genevieve page entitled "Prospect K. Robins", why? Chouchin11 (talk) 10:33, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

At first, he seemed to not meet WP:Notability and appeared to be red-linked. With the wiki-link and the references you added I now think he is a good addition. Nice work. Thanks Grey Wanderer (talk) 20:03, 25 September 2009

(UTC)

I had first added him as a place holder until I could get to a 'real' computer to complete the references. Is there any way to do this without causing confusion like this? I'd also like for the Missouri moderator to take a look at all of Ste. Genevieve's pages and links and give us some feedback on them. Who do I contact? Thanks! Chouchin11 (talk) 11:52, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I can't think of a good way to avoid confusion, no harm done though, just add him back. You might place a request at the talk page for Wikiproject Missouri. Grey Wanderer (talk) 20:51, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Removal of PROD from MediaStorm

Hello Grey Wanderer, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to MediaStorm has been removed. It was removed by Fences and windows with the following edit summary '(Deprod, the company is a notable multimedia news publisher, adding references and cleaning up article.)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Fences and windows before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. Removal of information Titan Debate and Forensics

Hello! I saw your notes on the editing of the Titan Debate and Forensics portion of the Lee's Summit West High School page. I was wondering why you felt it necessary to delete some of updated information? There was previously old information listed, as Eric Mizener has not been the "captain" for over two years now. As the former coach, it is helpful for that information to be updated and listed so that people trying to make contact with the appropriate people can do so instead of going through me and then onto the new coach and president. Could you please explain those changes in detail? Thank you!

Sure, and thanks for using my talk page... I removed the information because the information likely fails Wikipedia:Verifiability and certainly WP:Notability (though the latter does not directly limit article content.) Club directors, high school teachers and coaches change often and Wikipedia is not the place to publish that information (see WP:NOTADIRECTORY. As so, Wikipedia is not the place people should be looking to contact the captain or coach of any high school club. A small section, that is well sourced, on Titan Debate and Forensics would be ok, but limit it to a couple sentences to give that club the proper weight/coverage in the article, remember the article is about the school as a whole. If you have any other questions or want help making constructive changes let me know; I'd be glad to help. Thanks. Grey Wanderer (talk) 02:44, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

re: Fix awkward wording

Hi. The edit summary was directed towards the opening sentence of the article. I don't object to restoring the last paragraph of the opening, I was just planning on writing one inclusive of the Medical center and Tyson center. Thanks. Astuishin (talk) 02:46, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

OK. I added the paragraph back, but incorporated it into geography section so you can have free reign with the lead paragraph. Thanks Grey Wanderer (talk) 17:21, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I had the thought that this photo would look better if the bottom 1/4 were removed. There's just too much asphalt there. I thought about doing it, but I hate radically changing other people's work without talking to them first. What do you think?

By the way, great work on all the Columbia, MO related pages.

Great Bend vandalism

Grey, you are doing a great job reverting vandalism on the Great Bend page. Can we block this guy? I've been around wiki for a few years, but blocking a vandal is beyond my expertise. Thanks, Pommerenke (talk) 02:09, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, always nice to hear that my work is appreciated. Usually a persistent vandal can be blocked, but only if they have several recent edits (in the last day or so). Also if they've created an account they use primarily for vandalism. Next time I see vandalism there I'll check it out and see if I can do something. If you can prove that the same person is vandalizing the page from several different accounts/ips then that also might be grounds for blocking or page protection. Anyways, I'll keep an eye out and you should do the same. Thanks Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:50, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (File:Flag of columbia missouri.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Flag of columbia missouri.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ZooFari 02:27, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Wiki projects

I've done allot of work to Iowa State's articles over the past few years while in school. Now that I've got a job, I don't have as much time to spend on wiki and very little has been done to ISU pages as a result. I'm interested in starting a wiki project for Iowa State articles and was hoping you could give me some pointers on how to get this setup. Thanks in advance--Jaretac (talk) 05:28, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Thats great you want to get that going. First make sure you've got some editors who are interested in joining, you've probably meet a few over at Talk:Iowa State University if you can gather 5-10 editors, before you create the project that would be best. Obviously you can use the WikiProject proposal system that I used for the Big XII project. Other than that I find the template system used on Wikipedia:WikiProject Mizzou and Wikipedia:WikiProject Missouri to be the most clean-cut attractive and fairly easy to work with formats I've run across. Of course you can also go the non-template route if your uncomfortable with them or just don't want the hassle. The most important thing you can do once you have the interested parties and a page is to define your scope (will you include university people?/how related to ISU do they have to be to merit inclusion). You will also want to set up an article structure using the Wikipedia 1.0 assessment system (thats all the FA, GA, B, Start, Stub ratings you see on talk pages) If you set up the category structure correctly and place banners on all the talk pages the bot will do much of the work for you. Other than that I recommend using the copy-paste feature liberally, take what you like from WikiProjects you admire, just make sure to write where you got the code in your edit summary. If there is anything I can help you set up or if you need more specifics let me know. Good luck! Grey Wanderer (talk) 22:40, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Missouri School of Journalism

Hi there, thanks for the feedback on the recent edits to our school's page. I appreciate all you do to keep Wikipedia running smoothly for everyone! I work for the University of Missouri Office of Planning and Communications and we are going to be updating and streamlining all of the information on our J-school page over the next couple of weeks, making the information better and more current. We're working hard to make our page better and create more interesting and useful content. Would it be best for us to run these edits by you before they are posted? For the History section that we updated today, we incorporated all the information we wanted to keep from the previous version and deleted what the Dean's office felt was extraneous. We also created new external links and references and retained all the useful old ones so please advise what needs to be changed in order to have the changes approved.

Thank you, Angela —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.230.160 (talk) 02:20, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi there and welcome. First off, I encourage you to create an account, the benefits of an account include page creation, automatic notification of messages and easier edit tracking. You can get instructions here. I'm glad you want to improve the Missouri School of Journalism page, it is one I have wanted to see improved for a long time. Please read Wikipedia:Five pillars and review our polices on WP:Conflict of Interest, WP:Neutrality, and WP:Manual of Style. I reverted your edits for several reasons. First, you must learn how to phrase things in an encyclopedic neutral tone, this will obviously be very different from what your used to writing for J-school publications. "The Missouri School of Journalism has paved the way for journalistic advancement." Be on the safe side and "show" how the school has paved the way instead of making broad statements. Second, everything you add, ideally, should be cited with an inline citation from a reliable third party source NOT an external link. See Columbia, Missouri for an example of a good article. Also be aware that on Wikipedia we prefer prose instead of list, or timelines. You do not need to run edits in front of me before making them, I don't 'own' the page anymore than anyone else, but if there is anyway I can be of assistance please let me know. If you would like me to take a look at your changes, consider creating a workspace as a sub-page of your user page, I can look at the changes there and then tell you if they are, in my opinion, appropriate for the. mainspace. Thanks. Grey Wanderer (talk) 02:46, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Grantham University edits

Greetings Grey! This is VirusUnkown. First, I must mention that I have no conflict of interest (I am not a student or an employee) and I am totally unbiased. I performed an "undo" to the changes you made simply b/c the changes you made are irrelevant/unspoorted. You've added information about Grantham's accreditation and credit transferability. Your supporting documents listed does not mention Grantham, its accreditation, credit transferability or lack thereof. I would like to see concrete proof in order to truly represent the history I am trying to create on this article. I recommend that you place that information else where in the national vs. regional accreditation debate. Next, in all my articles I have added valid support. In fat, my posts always says that Grantham which is mentioned as a "campus" and that its current headquarters are in KC. I'm not sure what your trying to say but again in all my supporting documents its mentiond as a "campus". I'm not sure about your edit. Please have another look at my posts and supporting documents before you make unneccessary changes. Also, please post a message on my talk page I would love to talk to you more about improving this wikiarticle. Thank you. Virusunknwn

Hi Grey,

Thanks I'm learning. What's a COI? That said if you are unaffiliated with the university then I don't see how you are the copyright holding for the various media you have uploaded. ... do they need to be under a different license? As an expert. I would like to ask "you" what would be the correct license to use if those images are from Grantham facebook/Google Images? I know I have a lot to learn and would like you to please help. I've spent several hours researching this topic about this school.

I'm curious too, are you an ex-employee/student of Grantham? Of course, you too don't have to answer this as you have the right to privacy on Wikipedia. Let's talk more on my talk page I am all about about improving this wikiarticle I've spent hours researching. Hi again, Thank you for mentoring me. I've a got a few ideas that i can do to improve this article. BTW, hang on...if I write the school and got permission wiki could use the pictures. I'm not sure I understand isn't it considered public domain since its on the worl wide web (e.g. google images, facebook, etc)? What if a student.faculty member uploads the image is that still considered wrong? Wouldn't all those images fall under PD-Pre1978 — for images published in the United States prior to 1978 without explicit notice of "copyright, year, owner" or "©" attached? --Virusunknown 01:18, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Indeed I have returned

A window of free time in my afternoons has opened. St. Louis has a lot of gaps in its article series. I'm proud of these,

Still working on putting together a NorthSide page... not publishable yet. After a year of inactivity, I've suddenly rediscovered the thrill and efacacy of creating knowledge. There's been a lot of buzz about CityGarden lately. I'm glad people can now find it on their number one choice for information. What needs to be done to get the St. Louis Page up to GA? Let's do it! Let's do it! Let's do it! DaronDierkes (talk) 05:07, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for saving Talk:Neighborhoods of St. Louis/to do. I've been looking it over, and I just noticed the very great work done by User:Onegentlemanofverona, Amazing work really. The neighborhood pages look a little blank still, but those templates are pretty fancy and full. I'm just impressed that he went through the checklist I left. Incredible. elmhurst, Kansas

It's weird cuz the corrd drop it right over OP city hall. I've been in OP my whole life and never heard of any Elmhurst region. This is one of those rabbit holes of history I like to investigate. I'm sure in the Map room in the OP Library the secret of Elmhurst can be found.Moonraker0022 (talk) 02:35, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Let me know if you ever solve the mystery. Grey Wanderer (talk) 22:04, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

iconography

It is mostly nonsense, but I felt compelled to throw this together: Iconography of St. Louis, Missouri. If it matures a bit with heavy crowd editing, I think it could be quite informative. I imagine a lot of people adding loads of stuff I'd never have thought of. What do you think? Do I need to delete the non-free images I tossed up there? I was sort of hoping to get a pool of logos that used the symbols mentioned. I can think of dozens more, but I just put up what was already on wikipedia. I need this, this, and this. DaronDierkes (talk) 05:10, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

You probably do need to delete the non-free images, unless you can come up with a fair use rational for them. Cool idea, I never would have thought of it. Grey Wanderer (talk) 22:04, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:031907frontpage400.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:031907frontpage400.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Killiondude (talk) 22:25, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

List of people from Springfield, Missouri

Following up on our previous discussion regarding the "Criminals" section of List of people from Springfield, Missouri, User:RadioBroadcast has notified me of his intent to remove that section based upon the discussion at Talk:List of people from Springfield, Missouri which has sporadically transpired over the last seven months. Please see that Talk page for further details. --TommyBoy (talk) 02:07, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Looks good, thanks for letting me know. Grey Wanderer (talk) 22:04, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Missouri portal

Hello, I saw that you are maintaining Portal:Missouri. As a member of WikiProject Missouri, I will be doing some work with it (adding articles, pictures, etc.) because I think it has the potential to become an FPO, which would be a good way of helping to promote the state. Thanks,  fetchcomms 01:21, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Please! it is in dire need. Let me know if I can do anything to help you. Thanks for your work. Grey Wanderer (talk) 21:48, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
No problem :)  fetchcomms 21:54, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
It's a large task, but could you try assembling a list of DYK hooks and add them to subpages of Portal:Missouri/Did you know? There could probably be 8 or so on each subpage plus one image (like the main page). Then it could be randomized by /1, /2, etc like the selected article and stuff. Thanks!  fetchcomms 02:24, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Will do. Currently my internet access is limited, but as soon as that resolves I will be back an d get right on it. Grey Wanderer (talk) 21:38, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much!  fetchcomms 19:13, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Missouri School of Journalism Endowed Chairs

I've re-written the language so that it does not directly reflect the language on our school's website. Please let me know if this can stand or if further changes need to be made. I plan to overhaul this entire page over the next few weeks. As per your earlier instructions I've set up a user account to help the changes go a bit more smoothly. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to make this transition more easily. Thank you so much for what you do! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Indigosmashy (talkcontribs) 19:31, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words. The language looks better. Do beware of too much detail, perhaps try to summarize the endowed chairs instead of giving each one their own paragraph. Good luck with the overhaul, let me know if there is anything I can do to help or any wiki policies I can help clear up. Thanks! Grey Wanderer (talk) 19:50, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Hey there, it looks like another editor stepped in and pulled this down again, again for copyright violation although I rewrote the language. How many editors look at the page? Is there any way that you and I could just work together on getting this updated? It's frustrating to have so many gate keepers and seems like a constant redoubling of efforts... we're planning to overhaul the whole page as you know so I'd like to make sure the transition is a little more seamless than this if possible. I guess you can't ask that other editors not intervene, but I'm looking to you as the final say... is that not really the case? Thanks again for all the help as we get this underway... best, AngelaIndigosmashy (talk) 21:30, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

WP:MO active

Yeah, I just noticed too. I thought I would send out a message to everyone on the member list asking if they would like to help revive some more activity, so hopefully the project gets a bit more attention.  fetchcomms 21:25, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Photos on Missouri School of Journalism

Hi there! I'd like to replace the photos that are on our page with some better and more current ones. could you tell me how to upload them? I see how to place the photos on the page but I don't see a place for uploading. Thanks so much! Indigosmashy (talk) 17:07, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Template:Big 12 Barnstar

I was going over the WP:Big 12 talk page and saw you mentioned about creating a Big 12 Barnstar. Any chance you could get this started before April? Thanks. NThomas (talk) 17:12, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:MU Hospital logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:MU Hospital logo.jpg.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

Your opinion on policy

There have been regular difference of opinion in article deletion debates regarding NPOV application. It's an intersecting of WP:WAX the final entry on legitimate usage, WP:BIAS and the current reading of WP:NPOV. I hopefully summarized my case effectively here. Ray Klinginsmith

I'd advise rv; the position is certainly a big deal. But then again, we can see if somebody writes an article about the person, so that the redlink disappears. DavidOaks (talk) 03:39, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't really care about the red-link, but when there is no reference provided and the article is red-linked I almost automatically remove the name. The position sounds like it very well could be notable. If you add it back with a third-party source I won't touch it. Thanks! Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:44, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

stldesktop

Starting a new wiki project at www.stldesktop.com and wanted to give you a head's up about it in advance of release. As of now the /wiki section is a blank slate. It's purpose is to be more for the St. Louis area than about it or one might say less an encyclopedic reference, such as Wikipedia, and more an active platform for community interaction. I am hopeful, however, that the future will lead to a nice interplay between it and the WikiProject St. Louis (as well as the rest of the Wikipedia). Please take a look, especially at the /about page and feel free to create an account and have a whack at the wiki should you feel so moved :P If you have any questions or suggestions I am very interested in hearing them as the project may eventually necessitate a managerial position either staffed or contracted. bryon at stldesktop dot com

MSU edit

Corrected that the fall 2010 enrollment figure is for opening day only. Official enrollment figures will not be available until later in the year. Also, clarified state representation of students is based on 2009 enrollment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Keith8404 (talkcontribs) 16:15, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer permission

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
