Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. My "little editing" about the 2006 Israeli/Hezbollah War was well intentioned. Seeing the recent damage done after the Israeli bombardments I was shocked.

Having seen how much damage the Israeli bombarments which they call "selective surgical or target strikes" in South Beirut, which I saw coming from and to the airport in early 2007, I thought the harm especially in South Beirut was downplayed in the article. Though I saw Gaza on televison the very same Israeli "selective surgical or target strikes" caused widespread damage there with a lot of innocent deaths. (As a staunch secularist, I am no friend of Hezbollah (or Hamas for that matter), and as you will surely as a Lebanese will agree, I hate fundamentalism and secteranism an every form, religion should be separated from politics and politics from religion. It caused your beautiful country and city so much harm, and as I saw is still divided psychologically and physiacally into secterian sections. Religion is a private matter concerning the individual, and it should not be abused for political means.) I went there for the (still) first time for academic purposes for a week (from Turkey), with a little sightseeing in central Beirut and ventured as far as to the edge of South Beirut (aka Hezbollahland) which was nerveracking.

I hope your country can be rid of the religious divisions and become truly peaceful, tranquil and "normal". I wish all the best and good luck.

Hey, That PDF isn't the DLM's manifesto, but it is written by important figures in the party, so it could still be significant for the article.

Edit War?

Honestly I do not understand why there would even be an edit war over something that is true. Do you know how I can make them stop undoing my edits, I have spent a lot of time looking for reliable sources and I have used them! Bas mabedun I even used their own newspapers as a source and they still deleted my edit. Who can I go to, to help me? Because my sources are beyond reliable. I do not think ever said George Wassouf is Lebanese origin. Youssef Chahine and Omar Sharif are both Lebanese by origin and I think they should acknowledge this on wiki since almost every website on the internet does. Actually, it is indeed justified. The law gives an exception to the media; Wikimedia Commons is not the media, and even if it were, this would still prevent the image from being free for all uses, which is required for Commons. Stifle (talk) 15:49, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

• I think the article can still be featured without those images, this is a special case since it is prohibited to take pictures inside the cave. But the caves were discovered in the 1800s, so I'm sure there must be some public domain photographs or other illustrations of it somewhere. I've now deleted the template, but it seems that {{Infobox Historic Site}} is not quite a replacement for it, as its parameters are named differently. Your template was included in 3 pages, and in those pages the infobox is now broken:

You're going to have to go through those and change the parameter names so they match the ones in Template:Infobox Historic Site. Please do it quickly, as currently it's having negative effects on the articles (causing information to be hidden). Hi Elias! Yes, I've noticed that rule thingy early on. It's all about numbers in this place. Thanks for taking a look at that Phalanges article. I think we could form a strong front together to keep Wiki unbiased. If you have some time, please also take a look at Arab Christians. To my knowledge, Maronites (the overwhleming majority of Lebanese Christians) are not Arabs and do not consider themselves Arabs, as opposed to the Greek Orthodox who may sometime identify as Arabs (on a geopolitical or linguistic basis of course, since they are not ethnic Arabs). The article is suggesting that all Lebanese Christians are Arabs, based on the number added to the infobox by the user Izzedine. Thanks for the support, but I purposefully dive into controversial topics head first, often playing devil's advocate for persons or groups that I'm not particularly fond of myself, in an attempt to reach consensus on neutral descriptions. It's just how I try to ensure that everything is written from a neutral point of view. As a side effect though, there are probably quite a few very opinionated editors who think me a terrible person as well, and would oppose any attempt for adminship. I started to discuss a possible move here at the Olympics WikiProject as I didn't notice there was an active editor on the Francophone Games. It appears that the English-speaking press have begun to use "Francophone Games" in preference to "Jeux de la Francophonie". Compare the usages of Jeux de la Francophonie and Francophone Games on google. The competition hasn't had much coverage in English in the past, but I think this is changing during this year's Games. If "Francophone Games" continues to be used in preference to "Jeux de la Francophonie" in English press reports, then an article move should be done. What do you think? Specific Athletics events links on 2009 Jeux

I saw you added specific links to each event in the athletics competition in the calendar. However, I think a single results page detailing all the results of the finals (Athletics at the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie) will do. The reason is two-fold: firstly, the athletes who don't make the final of a specific event are highly likely to be non-notable athletes, thus their inclusion is debatable. Secondly, events pages for each race/competition is very time-consuming – that is the reason why, beyond the Olympic Games and Athletics World Championships, you do not often find articles of this nature. This image also looks like some webimage you have found. Please communicate so I don't have to begin searching on the Internet for these images. I am pretty sure they are copyvios by now, since many of the uploads are low res and have no metadata, or metadata that contradicts the file description etc. But it is better if that fact comes from you so that we can just delete the images that are copyvios and move on. Many of the images I have listed above are old uploads and it is not uncommon for users to do errors when they are new to Wikipedia. Please respond. Rettetast (talk) 21:47, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Basketball

Just finished making the basketball article for the 2009 Games, with help from the Portugese wiki. However, I'm missing some key bits of information.

Firstly, only a women's contest was held. Was this always planned this way? Or was a men's tournament cancelled? Secondly, Cyprus were leaders of Group A but were disqualified and did not play against France for their final game. Any idea why they were disqualified? Jeita photos

Here are three photos, I think the two first could be used in the article, and the third is just if we ever need one more for filer. They're all from right outside the grotto. The first one[4] is maybe the entrance or a café outside or something, don't remember, and the second is some kind of Jeita train, where you can see the teleferique arrival place in the background (I'm the boy on the left standing with the side to the camera by the way, my father took the picture, but I doubt he gives a damn if I release it under whatever license).[5] The last one is just a souvenir shop.[6] If you think any of them can be used, I'll crop and colour correct those ones and upload them to Commons. Baalbek article

Thanks. I would cite a reference, but I have never found one. But I was there last year and the guy who looks after the quarry (has a cafe there) said there is a smaller stone in the next quarry. I went and measured it with a surveyor's tape, and it was substantially bigger. Don't have the measurements with me, but I seem to remember a meter wider and two meters longer. The evidence is in the photo.

There is also no great discussion in this section about the underground tunnels, which clearly demonstrate two construction phases on the site (one megalithic and one seemingly Roman). Again I have photos, but no references. Every reference I have found suggests that the entire site was Roman.

In addition, I have placed some more comments on the Baalbek discussion pages, as there is more that can be added to this page.

I have never heard of the guy, ill give an example of a notable lebanese scientist who has proven himself on the international scene Pierre Zalloua is a great man who ironically does not have a wikipedia entry in his name, so i am creating one right now. Temple photos

Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of the Eshmun Temple, and its one of the places I'm planning on spending time at on the next trip.
