Arrested Development (film)

If you want the material to be deleted, then by all means I am fine with opening an AfD, but if you have the interests of the material at heart, then a merge - as I have done - is the proper course of action. Let me know if you have any further concerns; WP:NFF is rather clear on the matter. Thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 07:04, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I must have missed the part of WP:NFF that states that a person should come off as rude and heavy-handed in this situation. Broooooooce (talk) 12:08, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

To be utmost honest, it makes a lot of sence when you put it that way. It's funny how IP's simply ignore the larger templates and get rid of the smaller typing. I have reverted myself :) - one and only, Superior (reply!) 02:00, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Arrested Development episode detail

Hi -- noticed you've done extensive editing of the AD episode pages. While these changes have improved these pages, I'd like to open up a discussion on the justifications you cite and what procedure the community might take in finding a middle ground.

But, to avoid opening a can o' worms that has been opened and fished from already, was consensus originally reached to make these redactions? If so, then just point me to the discussion page/archive so I can avoid repeating ideas. If not, then I may go ahead and open a discussion at Talk:List of Arrested Development episodes. Thoughts? ∴ Therefore | talk 05:16, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Very funny (gave me quite the chuckle) -- no, I don't think you've made a "huge mistake". I've been cycling through the HDNet reruns and came here to see all that cruft that this fan likes to read about -- using The-OP.com's million posts becomes tiresome. That said, I guess I took issue with the extensive list of justifications for the deletions. WP:FANCRUFT is neither policy nor a guideline and can be uncivilly pejorative -- but we know it when see it. Clearly WP:EPISODE supports the deletions of continuity errors but I don't see an WP:NPOV problem here. None of the examples of WP:NOT#DIR seem to apply so I think you are using a broader reading than its intent.
So, that leaves us with the pillars: WP:NOR and WP:V. This is where my problem lies. Absolutely agreed that the example pages from WP:EPISODE are excellent. The articles I write/edit generally use a reference per sentence. However, I tend to write/edit articles about history and politics which demands rigor. If all of your deletions are justified by NOR and V, then why didn't you delete all of the "Cultural references" and "Notes" for (say) The One Where Michael Leaves? Isn't it true that you not only deleted painfully obnoxious references about how Michael uses the letter "R" for rape but kept those references that you believe are accurate? There is no reference provided to support that the 7 minute G.O.B. wait was a play on the G.W.B. pet goat wait. On what basis is that retained? Editor's choice in lieu of WP:V? Similarly, no source is given for the Michael Moore statement. Basis? Duh, it's obvious. But is that a policy, guideline?
I'll stop being so argumentative and get to my real point: The standards for WP:NOR and WP:V are lower for popular (non-BLP) articles than for weightier topics. You have (implicitly) acknowledged that by retaining many NOR/V violating statements. Possibly I may make some time to think about re-incorporating *some* of the deleted text that I believe rises to this same level of relevancy. Although, your idea of a grouping the "running jokes" or callbacks in their own article is quite intriguing and may be a way to solve this. Thoughts? ∴ Therefore | talk 05:54, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, you mean not WP:NOT#DIR but WP:NOT#INDISCRIMINATE. I remain unconvinced of the WP:NPOV issue. You and others of like mind disagree with editors who have a more expansive view of inclusion and that is an issue of reaching consensus and not a POV vio. The difference between the two groups is one of degree and not type.
And that returns to my primary issue: not "a bit" of flawed reasoning but a cut and dry inconsistency. You justify your edits citing WP:V and WP:NOR. By the same strict application, the entire article is unjustified. Every episode article for AD should be deleted with the plot summaries left for the List of Arrested Development episodes page. Clearly, 98% of all Wikipedia episode articles should be deleted. In the absence of reliable sources, utilizing the same strict standard of WP:V used for scholarly, political and biographical pages, to do otherwise is unjustified.
I believe that you and I have a similar outlook: the standards of WP:V and WP:NOR have varying levels of strictness. Television episode articles that have allusions and cultural references (particularly one as well written as AD) can be developed through consensus letting the community determine relevance. Your edits are an excellent, beginning compromise between article deletion and the tiresome, poorly organized pre-edit article. But we need to justify your edits and by doing so the community should agree that consensus of relevance is the standard being used and not WP:V nor WP:NOR. Thoughts? ∴ Therefore | talk 16:56, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Was this really appropriate? Considering his age? —Erik (talkcontrib) - 03:43, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

A few of the votes mentioned age (although as a non-issue), so I thought you would have noticed. In addition, I know Wikipedia is not censored, but the question seems out of place at the RFA. Hope it accomplishes what you want it to accomplish, then. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 03:49, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I won't revert, but I was also concerned that it would reflect badly on you. You've explained your intent, but in a mere glance at that optional question at the RFA, it can be disconcertingly misplaced. We'll see what happens. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 03:58, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Well, I see you would still like a coach, and I'm willing to help you. I've looked over your contributions and I think you have the temperament and patience for the job. My current coachee is ready for RFA except for that pesky, teeny little requirement of actually writing content for the encyclopedia. The candidacies of editors who are short in the writing department don't end well usually, and I'm trying to spare him that aggravation.

I've been an admin since June 2007; prior to my RFA I did a lot of vandalism work and some new page patrol, and I also got some experience closing non-controversial AFDs, which I'll show you how to do. I have thousands of log entries you can sift through if you like. My admin work is mostly on admin backlogs. Since the end of February I've been fiendishly working with a few other admins to clear a shameful, seven-week backlog at Wikipedia:Copyright problems, and we're actually ahead of the queue now. I consider myself a copyright expert now - how could I not be after four weeks in Siberia? - so that's a good thing to know about me. I also create new accounts from requests at unblock-en and the account creation email lists, and I pitch in at WP:AIV, WP:AN3, and WP:UAA on a spot basis as needed. I don't comment as often as I used to at RFA because I just don't have time, but I do try to comment on the contentious ones and those of candidates with whom I'm familiar.

My philosophy about this place and this 'job' can be found on my user page. I'm pretty frazzle-proof about Wikipedia, but I have to tell you that the mop is not for everybody. Among other things, it requires civility and patience and tact. People who lack one of those three may be successful candidates, but they won't be good admins. More importantly, they won't _like_ being admins, and that's becoming a real problem for us. We're losing experienced admins left and right, something like 10 in the last two months or so, and we need people who are suited for this work.

If you'd like me to coach you, we'll take as long as you want and go at your pace, not mine. I used a freeform style with my last coachee, but I'm going to use a hybrid of Malinaccier's system to see if it works better for me and for coachees. In real life, I'm a good teacher (or so students and patients tell me) and I like teaching, and I really like to have fun while teaching. Let me know if you're interested. :-) Thanks. KrakatoaKatie 08:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Great! I'm dog-tired tonight and the next couple of days are filled with moving activities for my son (college), so we'll get started this weekend. Two quick things: 1) in your user prefs, under 'Editing', check the last box to be reminded to leave an edit summary (I see some red on your edit count page), and 2) Create a subpage in your userspace for coaching (User:Dominik92/Coaching is fine or whatever you like), and on that page tell me why you want to be an admin. Don't worry yet about The Three Questions™ 'cause we'll get to them soon enough. Leave a message for me when you've done that, and I'll see you soon! :-)- KrakatoaKatie 03:46, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Right now, you have a double vote at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Lady Aleena, as you are listed in both the oppose section and the neutral section. Rollback

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can only be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you do not want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 23:26, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem. A trusted user like you should have recieved this a month ago.  :) Malinaccier (talk) 00:23, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

You can follow the instructions on the New Admin School page to test it out:

  1. Go to the page you wish to use the rollback feature on (in this case, we will use Wikipedia:New admin school/Deleting/delete).
  2. Add two or more edits to the page.
  3. Go to the history page.
  4. Click on the blue-linked "rollback"   at the right-hand side of the last edit string.
  5. This will rollback the page to the version prior to your edits.
  6. To see the difference between rollback and the undo tool, go back to the page history and click "undo" instead of rollback.

Spring Pendulum

Hello, I was trying to create a new article about the spring pendulum. I think it is quite different from a pendulum that you redirected the page to. There are many google hits on the spring pendulum and most of them seem to be on topic. I was planning to add to the page more later so it would not always be so brief and short. Lyctc (talk) 03:26, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

It is alright. I will revert it back to the initial version. I will try to add more sources. The spring pendulum is as interesting/important as the double pendulum and that has its own article. Thanks for your understanding. Lyctc (talk) 03:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I have reverted your redirection of No More Walks in the Wood. Please do not redirect before reaching consensus. Perhaps WP:AfD could help. Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 01:55, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

AfD is not appropriate because I don't wish to have the article deleted, I want it merged to the album. The song on its own is not notable and we usually don't have articles about songs unless they have become culturally significant. There was not evidence of this in the article, hence it was redirected. Are there reliable sources that have written articles about the song alone? The DominatorTalkEdits 02:19, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Clarification on a comment

After eiting the page oklahoma socialism you left a comment by your edit that said "'tying' is still not right..." What does that mean? Voteother (talk) 20:45, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Bartosz Paprocki

Well, thanks for your edits, but can i ask you for translation of theese two titles:

"Diadochus, tj. posloupnost knížat a králů českých, biskupů a arcibiskupů pražských a všech třech stavů slavného království českého, to jest panského, rytířského a městského"

"Štambuch slezský"

Greets Mikołajski (talk) 21:08, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Štambuch slezský= "Silesian Štambuch" I guess. And, "posloupnost knížat a králů českých, biskupů a arcibiskupů pražských a všech třech stavů slavného království českého, to jest panského, rytířského a městského"= Hierarchy of Czech Royalty, Kings, Bishops and Prague Archbishops and All Three States of The Great Czech Kingdom, That is, the Royal, Knightly and City" Although I am sure that someone else would be capable of a much better translation. The DominatorTalkEdits 22:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

That`s why i put it in the Czech wiki-project talkp-page askeing for translation... I don`t know Czech lang at all, except of what`s similar to my mother tongue-Polish, so it`s not any mystery for me that Slezko=Śląsk=Silesia, but what`s "Štambuch"?? Anyway, big thanks for the second one, i`ll put it in there. Do i guess correctly that`s not the present, common, Czech lang, but ancient? I hope that at least "Zrcadlo" i have translated correctly to "mirror" (zwierciadło).
Pozdrawiam Mikołajski (talk) 23:14, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
It is old Czech, yes. Štambuch appears to be a name of some sort, I tried to do a search for it but found nothing on the Czech Wikipedia or here, my guess would be that it's the name of some ancient royal house. And yes Zrcadlo is mirror. The DominatorTalkEdits 00:45, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
D`oh! If a native Czech speaker doesn`t know what this word stands for... i`ll need to leave it just like it is. So you guess it could be some Silesian clan Štambuch? Hmmmm, i`v never heard about such, actually there were rather Piast Dukes. I wonder if it wasn`t combination of "Štam" and "buch" (German-book). Does "Štam" mean anything in Czech?Mikołajski (talk) 02:45, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Aha! Look at this: [1], it says that "Štambuchs" are "friendship albums" also called "alba amicorum". The DominatorTalkEdits 06:31, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks man, problem solved. Mikołajski (talk) 13:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Ups, sorry, seems that we`v been editeing that page at the same time and i saved it just few minutes after you, it wasn`t reversion and i didn`t done it by purpose. Mikołajski (talk) 21:19, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Can i ask you for some researche of Paprocki works in Czech language? I put on his page his name in Czech lang, it`s: Bartoloměj Paprocký z Hlahol a Paprocké Vůle. I`m sure that he wrote more than three books in that 22 yearh he spended in the Czech Kingdom. If you`ll find liks to digitalised books, it would be great, if there are such of course. Pozdrawiam Mikołajski (talk) 12:30, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
This is what I found from a short Google book search: [2] those are all his books written under the Polish name in any language. Under the Czech name I found nothing. Under the Polish name searching only for books written in Czech: [3] which is essentially what you are looking for, but this is just a short search, I might find more. It explains the final moment of the episode which is a bit confusing. I think that's worthy of inclusion.--72.1.222.146 (talk) 22:42, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok... so you may have left and won't be able to answer that but consequently, I'm going to have to revert. Look, the one sentence I added explains the meaning of the ending. I think that it's inculsion is not only notable but necessary for a better article and I can't see how it being there makes it worse. But if you have a key perspective and a good reason to exclude it, please tell.--72.1.222.146 (talk) 23:08, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
And moreover, I just checked the history of the article. Several different people tried to include the fact and you are the one that keeps reverting it. At a certain point, you have to ask yourself wjy all those people are trying to put in a sentence that explains the ambiguous ending.--72.1.222.146 (talk) 23:17, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
