Advice needed
Hi there, hope you are still online and can advice me on a particularly sticky issue here.
I am the subject of a persistent harasser (is that the word?) on both my user and discussion page, you will know once you check the history of both after reading this message. In my own words, this is what happened and was posted by me @ ANI:
My statement to User:ㄏㄨㄤㄉㄧ
Let me state this clearly here, I tagged your discussion page twice (how covenient of you to delete this part prior to tagging me a sockpuppet due to my tagging of you as one!) with regards to some controversial un-referenced minor edits (can be easily interpret as hoaxes which I did tagged you for) which you've made prior to this confrontational episode, informing you that it is against wiki-policy to add original research materials into any article that could be construed as being biased and not upholding the WP:NPOV during editing. I did not at any stage call you a racist although your actions speaks clearly of your intent.
Next issue was your username, which we all felt was really not in compliance with English Wikipedia's policy on Usernames so I tag you again but your reply was this "i dont enjoy having to copy and paste my username instead of typing it. i ws just trying out a new account with a weird name.ㄏㄨㄤㄉㄧ (talk) 20:22, 2 October 2008 (UTC)".
This effectively resulted in me tagging you as a sockpuppet since you have already admitted to it and wouldn't even consider about how best to salvage the situation, thereby testing our patience with you which was already wearing thin. Your reply to me was a counter-accusation of me being a sockpuppet of another David and anon IP 122.105.149.69 (that IP is from Optus NSW Sydney Australia while mine simply reads as Qala Singapore) based solely on the evidence that my user page is the same as them having the exact same words: This page intentionally left blank., that effectively becomes your factless claim and false accusation which I don't believe any sane and level headed admin would even close an eye to, given that they have been rather patient dealing with you prior to this confrontational episode. --Dave1185 (talk) 23:15, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Currently, he has login as another user User:Nefbmn and has continue to harassed me in the same manner as before but he has since been blocked about 10 mins back. I need to clear my name now as he had did a tit-for-tat retaliation by tagging me as a sockpuppet and reported me here as a last ditch attempt to tarnish my username. Please advice me on the next appropriate course to undertake... Thanks! --Dave1185 (talk) 01:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't vandalism. I was unable to find the article she stated it in so I instead used an article in which she was quoted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.138.61.208 (talk) 01:15, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm curious what the reason was for the speedy deletion of Dominic Luciano. It seems to be a G7. Yet all I see in support of that is the following exchange between me and the creator at AfD:
- Delete and Salt. No evidence of passing WP:MUSIC. AndyJones (talk) 10:29, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Then quit screwing around and delete it already.--Quixotic92 (talk) 17:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Was there anything more? Did the creator blank the page, or add a {db} tag, or request deletion elsewhere?
I'm by no means saying the conclusion is wrong - of course the page should be deleted. I just wanted to know what the rationale is. One angry comment like the above doesn't really seem evidence of a wish to see the page deleted, particlulary bearing in mind the ongoing pro-article rant from him and his friends (or meatpuppets or sockpuppets) at the AfD page.
This is just my 2p worth. I've no intention of following this up in any way (and DRV would be pointless): it's just that if it had been my call I would have let the AfD run its course: give the guy a fair hearing, let him blow off some steam, demonstrate that we do follow a process even with difficult users. I have noted your action in respect of deletion of the article about Deltec Precision Audio because of blatant advertising under this entry. As you know, the act of advertising is to attract the public attention to a product or business which is not the act that I or Wikipedia is trying to do.
What I was/am trying to do is to clearly show, with input from other, that Deltec Precision Audio was a truly innovative company and was a leader in the development of techology in the HiFi world, with contribution as great as Linn, Naim, KEF, etc.
Can you provide me with the information that shows that Deltec Precision Audio was not one of the true innovators in modern Hifi design?
I have re-read the guides that have been provide and will endeavor to provide it in an acceptable tone and manner to Wikipedia when I re-create the entry shortly.
79.79.47.40 (talk) 15:03, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- The page was not written in an encyclopedic tone - there were sentences like "It reaches these goals through radical design, engineering excellence and precision manufacturing. They engage directly with their discerning customers for sales and service, both nationally and internationally." There were also no reliable sources that indicated their leadership role in HiFi development. One references was the company's own web page, and the other was some guys who just wanted to write about it. There needs to be more sources, and the article must be written without sounding like a mission statement. ... discospinster talk 02:24, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
User:AndyJones advised that you might be willing/able to drop a copy of the deleted article in my workspace here: User:MichaelQSchmidt/sandbox Dominic Luciano. I missed out on all the drama from the author to those commenting at the AfD(s), but the author... even through all his rancour... did manage to come up with one decent source. I think there may be more, but would like to see what assertions he had made and how the article might (if possible) be made encyclopedic. Thank you, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:06, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Done. ... discospinster talk 02:14, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- Just got home and got the package. I appreciate your courtesy. I will see if some judicious trimnming (call it sandblasting} and citing might make it encyclopedic and worthy of Wiki. I hope I might ask your input if and or when I am ready to submit it. Thank you, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 04:23, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Deleting article to remove a couple of revisions
It really isn't necessary to do this ... these revisions aren't harming anything, but what you're doing when you delete pages with larger histories is slowing things down and causing database locks. - Rjd0060 (talk) 03:17, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Just a general comment: revision (and log!) deletion is being tested at the test Wikipedia right now. Let's all be part of the solution, rather than bicker at each other. :-) Head over there, ask for +sysop, and try to break some things so that we can hopefully get the feature enabled on all WMF wikis when it's been proven bug-free. --MZMcBride (talk) 18:32, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

A query on a deleted page
The creator of the page on author "Joan Leslie Woodruff" has apparently deleted the material there, which was marginally informative at best. On further research, there may be some literary merit involved and Woodruff's books are sold on Amazon. What would be required to avoid the deletion in order to establish a more comprehensive biography and bibliography??

Whoa! Thanks for telling me about that one. The problem was that the "Current username" box had a lowercase "carlos5053" instead of an uppercase one. Logs show that the rename has occurred, but since lowercase usernames are impossible the rename does not actually create the other username. It's a very odd bug. It's fixed now; I deleted the redirects your move back created so that their userpage and usertalk would be moved there, then renamed with the right username. Immortal Game (disambiguation) was effectively boldly merged [1] to a section of Immortal Game. Shouldn't the original have been redirected with intact page history for GFDL purposes, or is the merged content too trivial? I don't think a redirect would hurt anything, and it would make it easier for non-admins to recreate a disambiguation page if some of the other entries get articles. Reason to include article on Dookhee Gungah
Dookhee Gungah is an integral part of Mauritian history that has been too often ignored. He was above all a benefactor and philanthropist and served as an example to many Indo-Mauritians in his time, in the early 1900s. Amidst the British colonial rule in Mauritius at that time, he managed to overcome a lot of hardship and opposition. He ran several schools at a time when the concept of free education was unheard of. He owned several businesses thus given a chance to many people to find employment. However, he was revered as a generous entrepreneur, a visionary and benevolent individual. He encouraged women to learn, be independent and run their own businesses; in the traditionally conservative indian culture this was new to many indentured laborers in Mauritius. He gave generously to all social/cultural organisations, to build temples, to organize meetings and functions for pilgrims, to provide for food, clothes and shelter at his own expense.
He was, on his own, an institution and an exemplary figure who inspired other indo-mauritian to take the cause he stood for further. He was even known in South Africa. There are letters to prove that he served as an example when it came to running schools for Hindus. His achievements are too many to summarize in this note. This is why we need to expand on this illustrious personality so that his story does not get lost in the pages of history.

Hello, I saw your name in recent changes and it looks like you are an administrator. I looked at Bible belt and there was an anonymous user who made a valid edit but also made what seems to me intended as an insult against Barack Obama ("remove NC, voted for Hussein"). Yes, Hussein is his middle name, but I get the feeling that the only people who emphasize it are people who don't like the guy. So, two questions:
1. Is this something that should be acted upon?, and
2. If so, is there a way to get rid of the edit summary?

Recreation of the entry for anidb.net
I am interested in recreating the article for the anidb as I understand it it was deleted for lack of notability. Animenews network sets a precident for websites containing information for the anime community to be notable. The anidb is a catalog of all anime that has been made or is slated for production. Much like the IMDB is for movies. It contains vital information about the activity of subbers, what they have subbed, how good the subs are, and the irc channel, website and contact info of the subbing group. Additional functions that the anidb includes are: a mylist where users can list what anime they have/have seen and where they saw/stored it; Elements, and tags that allow you to find anime within specific genres, with elements from different genres or even just a couple elements; information on the activity of producers, reviews on anime, and finally a faq page for problems using the numerous aforementioned uses. The anidb it used an average of 6300 times a day. If you could be of any assistance regarding remaking the entry for the anidb I would appreciate it since I am currently an amateur at creating wikipedia articles --Lazydragonboy (talk) 08:00, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
anidb article recreation.
Do the reasons I previously listed make it notable? I am unsure if it's usefullness to the anime subbing community makes it notable enough due to the minority of people who actually watch subbed anime. I listed the traffic of the sight. Could you advise me on this? --Lazydragonboy (talk) 00:56, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Paudash Lake
The WikiLakes Project is one of our newer efforts, but so far is reasonably successful. One of our better articles is the Paudash Lake entry, which is very popular and has, consequently, attracted a great deal of very valuable collaboration. There is certainly no question of “promotion” of the actual subject, Paudash Lake. As clearly stated in the article, the lake is fully developed with 640 properties. All remaining undeveloped land on the lake is crown property and will remain so in perpetuity. There are no further properties available to “promote”. There is, however, many wonderful public facilities to make known to the reader, such as the beautiful public North Beach on the lake and the terrific Silent Lake Provincial Park, a mile away, not to speak of the magnificent Algonquin Park which is only 17 miles away.
You suggest that the comment on the non-profit Paudash Lake Conservation Association is “promotional”. In what way could such a thing be construed as promotional? This comment is preposterous! These people are award winning environmental heroes, the darlings of the Ministry (which, frankly, doesn’t endear them to me, but that’s another story).
As for Sir Sam’s Inn, you claim to have no knowledge on the subject. However, you seem to have received some post secondary education in Ontario and seem to be a resident of Ontario. Our Province has poured quite a bit of public recreational money into this operation, which is the famous former estate and stone and timber mansion of Sir Samuel Hughes, who was our Minister of War in WW I and who, of course, was knighted by the King. It is the closest Haliburton down hill ski resort to Paudash Lake and is mentioned as a service to the readers of the article.
But, of course, perhaps even mention of the rather fabulous Casa Loma, Canada’s famous castle, is somehow offensively “promotional” (its owned by you and me Miss Spinster), or perhaps you make an exception to the shameless “promotional” mention and picture of Dundurn Castle in Wikipedia’s article on Hamilton, or the equally shameless promotion of in the Hamilton article of Dofasco “the most profitable steel producer in North America”, or the African Lion Safari, Westinghouse, the Golden Horseshoe, United Parcel Service, Procter and Gamble, Beech-Nut Packing, etc.
My goodness, I don’t see your ambiguous, highly subjective Tags applied on the Wikipedia Hamilton article, or hundreds of others I could mention. Why are you a rock thrower Miss Spinster, when you clearly live in a glass house? Please leave our WikiLakes Project alone and apply your frankly silly Tags elsewhere. Sheena ANTM Cycle 11
There's an edit dispute about whether Sheen's last name is Satana or Sakai. On the talk page I've tried to get a discussion going, and have expressed why I believe that Satana is the most appropriate last name to use in the article. People keep changing it to Sakai, without engaging in the talk at all. How should this be handled? I don't want to violate 3 revert rule, and I don;t know whether to identify that change as vandalism since. there seems to be a consensus of 1 on the talk page since no one but me has been willing to make a comment. Can you please get involved? -Misty Willows (talk) 19:53, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Final Communication Regarding Paudash
I have received your message attempting to justify your behavior on the basis that “it is not acceptable to use words such as "spectacular" and "fabulous" and "beautiful" in a Wikipedia article”. Let us examine this interesting statement as regards geographic articles like Paudash Lake, shall we?
Turning first to our worldwide Wikipedia Headquarters in San Francisco, we note in the Wikipedia article on the city (which is rated as a Featured Article), the word “fabulous” in the fourth paragraph. This is followed in the article by such words as “splendorous”, “ostentatious”, “flamboyant”, “grandeur”, “zany”, and the ever popular “legendary”, as applied to a rather sleazy rock promoter. As regards commercial promotion, there is the comment that “the decision by Virgin America to base its operations out of SFO reverses the trend of low-cost carriers opting to bypass SFO”.
Moving down the pike a bit from Headquarters, we now turn to the Wikipedia article on Yosemite National Park, which is also rated as a Featured Article. Here, in the very first paragraph, we find the word “spectacular” Furthermore, this is not the only time the word is used in the article. There is, of course a nice commerical promo that states “The park concession contract is now operated by Delaware North Companies "Parks and Resorts" (the official concessionaire name in DNC Parks and Resorts at Yosemite, Inc.)".
Let me remind you that a “Featured Article”, our highest rating, is one which has “been identified as one of the best articles produced by the Wikipedia community". Oh, and do you recall that the San Francisco Wikipedia community founded Wikipedia and continues to run the organization and its computer servers? But then, again, perhaps you don’t think to much of our American cousins. Perhaps you are like your Hamilton and south shore area politicians such as Sheila Copps and Carolyn Perrish whose ghastly public comments on Americans are not something that I would wish to repeat on a Wikipedia site.
So then, let us turn to a Canadian Wikipedia article on a site in your area which is rated as a “Selected Article” on the Canadian Portal, is a “Featured Article” in Europe, and a former “Featured Article” in North America. The article is on Niagara Falls and most certainly contains the word “spectacular”. It contain “spectacular” more than once, as well as a lot of beauty type comments, such as “renowned both for their beauty”. Frankly, the commercial promo plugs in the article are simply too numerous to mention!
During 2008, Paudash Lake was one of Wikipedia’s most successful sites. As you either know, or should know, for several months during the year, the site set the record for the number of diffenent collaborators who edited the site. Now, you have used the excuse that “it is not acceptable to use words such as "spectacular" and "fabulous" and "beautiful" in a Wikipedia article”, to justify your trashing of this site which so many Wikipedians worked on during the last year. You, madam, are either a liar, a fool, or both. Your disgusting, malicious, behavior is what is unacceptable. Lake Central (talk) 02:54, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Deleted article Scott "SVH" Von Heldt
Hello Discospinster, I am writing to you in regards to deleting my article post. I am a well-established musician and author and this post (although could easily be considered self promotion since I posted it) in no way is an advertisement. I have a sub listing in a band mates article and wanted to update my on biographical information. How do you feel it needs reworded so that you won't feel compelled to delete it again? let me knoe asap. Thanks and happy holidays!

- You should familiarize yourself with our policies/guidelines at Conflict of Interest WP:SPAM Biography notability and notability of musicians. Basically articles written by the individual, while allowed, are very frowned upon and often come under close scrutiny and may be deleted. Articles where you don't meet our minimum notability criteria may also result in the article being deleted.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 16:35, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Lowercase letters
Wikipedia convention I understood states the need for lowercase letters on their own. In the articles the letters are referred to in LowerCase, excpet at the start of the article. The capitalisation is a technical limitation, not by design. Hence, the changes. KR, ANdy. --82.5.174.194 (talk) 21:53, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Macy Garcia:Hoax
It had been a long time, and I have been very suspicious about that said starlet and i made a conclusion that she is not true. There is no Maria Cassandra Garcia on the UP enrolees. She never starred on any show according to the shows' credit. La Luz del Mundo Page, is the church that I belong to, and many of the things that have been posted are false. It, first of all, offends me that someone would post negative things about my church. Although, the things they write about the church are NOT true, it stills is offensive. I would like it if the page would be deleted to prevent any innappropriate editing. I hope you understand my situation. I don't know who started this page, or if you, yourself are the administrator of this page. So, please, I don't want this to go any further.. Their have been some editing reffering to our church, and how we are a sect. We are a Christian non-denomination. And not a CONTROVERSIAL christian denomination, like others have put it. Also, negative offenses to the director of our church. I don't feel it's necessary to keep talking about it in discussion section. Others will want to keep it, others will post more negative discussion comments, so, why not end it by deleting the page? Or, is it a dificult process? Or maybe... it would be easier adding some protection to it?, so no one could add or change anything, once it is properly fixed... I thank you for your attention and hope you can do something about it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pansonbenny (talk • contribs) 05:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
