We both have been reverting this mention in Ballarat, Victoria as "vandalism". It probably doesn't belong there but is it "vandalism? --Ron Ritzman (talk) 03:12, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Orange Karma Records... you jumped the gun

I understand your citation (A7) for speedy deletion, but you entirely and completely ignored every word of this:

Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved, reduced to a stub, merged or redirected elsewhere or be handled with some other action short of deletion. If this is possible, speedy deletion is probably inappropriate. Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete. Users nominating a page for speedy deletion should specify which criteria the page meets. While not required, except for copyright concerns, it is generally considered courteous to notify the good-faith creator and any main contributors of the articles that you are nominating for deletion.

It was designated as a stub, it had the speedy deletion tagged removed by someone other than me and I was in the process of updating content. The page was deleted less than 2 hours after creation even though I marked it as a stub so that I could find more information and try to get a picture. Also, I understand you didnt nominate the article for speedy deletion, you just deleted it. But you deleted it rather hastily IMHO. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Automaticstatic (talkcontribs) 14:17, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I was a little late adding a talk page notice for that user. I had actually already indef blocked him before you warned him again on his talk page. An article (and a very innocent one at that) that I created has been subjected to persistent vandalism (from what appears to be one person) over the past week. You fixed it on a couple of occasions--thanks. Can anything be done about this vandalism?Hohenloh (talk) 13:08, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Why the deletion?

Hi Discospinster,

All the other external links are clearly commercial.

my addition is not .. *Auto Dealer Supply Checklist A detailed checklist of auto dealer forms and supplies commonly used by car dealers to successfully operate and manage their business.

It's clearly not commercial and is in fact very germane (closely or significantly related; relevant; pertinent) and adds value to the article.

I'm new to wikipedia. Why the deletion?

Re: Estampe Auto Dealer Supplies

Discospinster: The external link added to the Car dealerships in the USA article by Estampe123, should have nothing to do with Knol. The link to the "Auto Dealer Supply Checklist" is an advertisement masquerading as an article. It is one of the "Links normally to be avoided" guidelines because it falls in the category of: Links to sites that primarily exist to sell products or services... The linked article is clearly an ad since it ends with: For more information contact: Malcolm Uffelman, Estampe Auto Dealer Supplies... Thanks — CZmarlin (talk) 03:53, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Vandal/Sockpuppet

I thought I'd point out to you that an IP address you recently blocked, user:67.109.80.190, has continued on a massive vandalism spree. The IP address is also a sockpuppet of indefinitely blocked user:Lilbenrt, a user that was blocked for making identical vandal edits as the IP address. The IP address appears to be used by only one editor, has been blocked and warned repeatedly, and may be due for a lengthy block at this point. Chicken Wing (talk) 22:55, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Question about blocks

Hey Discospinster. After what happened on User talk:98.206.97.78, I was wondering if an admin could—hypothetically, of course—give all the warnings and block the user even if it isn't an extreme case (ie: plain old "usual" vandalism). Thanks, ~ Troy (talk) 00:45, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, vandalism on Wikipedia really ranges ...I think I meant something like may be 5 or 6 vandal edits on the same page, although now I realize that that question is too generalized. I see some pretty serious stuff almost everyday, now, but there's also a bunch of test edits (keeping in mind that it differs from vandalism). ~ Troy (talk) 00:55, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

"Edit Summary Vandalism" on Zillions of Games article

I'm guessing that someone made a succession of edits including messages and that the easiest way to remove it was to delete the entry and only restore up to a point. *wry grin* Gave me a bit of a shock when I saw it pop up as deleted on my watch list since I was one of the people who defended it against the last VfD where we had an editor who seemed convinced that, because ZoG is a commercial product and he'd never heard of it before, it did not belong on Wikipedia. And incidentally, if I am correct in what the vandalism was, was it that guy who's attacking the user through automated extensions, something about burning him in oil and acid? -Fuzzy (talk) 19:27, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Deleting Correspondence Chess Server

Why??

I am very disapointed with WIKIPEDIA.

Firstly I made big article about my chess server - and your robot found it too commercial - even then I see for sure at least one chess page it should be deleted immediatelly. I put a lot of eforts in making my page - also with many helping links... But I said to myself - OK if you see it as advertising... I will made a very short one.

Now I made my SECOND version. Just 4-5 lines of text - WHERE I COPIED TWO SENTENCES FROM THE PAGE BEEING HERE FOR LONG TIME!!!!!!! It was just a desription of chess server - like all others here!!!!

Why have you deleted also this second page!?????

I am new too wiki - so please explain me, if there is somebody, who has responsibility to stop VANDALS here from deleteing pages just for their fun. I would be also happy, if I could make my complaint to somebody who can check people who are deleting pages here...

So please - good wiki users - help me!

Notable

Can you please explain what you mean with "is not notable." In more plain english, that I will understand the meaning and what I have to do! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smallpawn (talkcontribs) 21:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Notable 2

I read link about "not being notable", but I cannot find my few sentences to be more "advertising" like othere links to other chess servers.

I do not know how to write not get immediately deleted! Will you leave my work, if I just copy one of chess server articles and I change URL and name of server!?

Because in second try I really wrote just informative stuff - LIKE all chess servers here.

And if you think I am not capable to do this - could you be so kind and write YOU (JUST FOUR SENTENCES!) FOR ME, because I am obviously to stuppid to do this right way.

Please be hero and ONCE write something constructive and not just delete with light speed others work!

I ensure you I will be very happy and greatfull to you until my death! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smallpawn (talkcontribs) 21:27, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Max Gill

Dear Discospinster, I truly believe that Max Gill deserves his place on wikipedia. I came across an article on him in the Sun newspaper, there are numerous articles where he features online, and his credibility can be backed up by his imdb. Although i have never met him and do not know him, i still strongly believe this, however i repsect any decision you choose to make. Please see the links below to verify the claim:

Many thanks, Idealeyes (talk) 23:35, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

i would argue that him being on national t.v. everyday across many channels is enough, as well as having his face all over yell.com adverts online. What's more, his co-star Catherine Bailey has an entry, i couldn't find any articles specifically about her, even though she very much deserves her entry. There are many many actors on here who are on Wikipedia solely for their credentials rather than any appearances in magazines so i cant see why this example should be an exception. The type of information for wikipedia is on imdb.com, where that deems him eligible for his own page, as well as providing for you information solely about him. Er... the page you deleted today should have been temporarily deleted for history merge with Home Box Office that you've moved, not just to make way for move. I would be happy to arrange for a petition of his supporters, were it to confirm his standing as a "notable figure," but since your criteria for removing his article is unclear, I can't be certain on how to disprove your assumptions.

Just in regard to your deletion of the 24 characters template: is there a replacement? Currently there are a number of pages that have the red-link to the template you deleted. Blue Danube (talk) 00:18, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply! Blue Danube (talk) 01:17, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
The template is redundant and is a classic maintenance speedy delete . All of the characters appear in another template and this template is not in use. This is classic maintenance when something is superseded and made redundant.--Lucy-marie (talk) 12:25, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Isn't that like taking someone's cookie and then saying: this is fine, all the nutritional value of that obsolete cookie can be found in another cookie that made it redundant. This isn't helpful because the other template wasn't re-inserted into the pages. Where is the other template that superseded this deleted template and made it redundant? how come it wasn't linked? Classic maintenance is cool, but me and Discospinster had no idea there was another template. Blue Danube (talk) 15:30, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Comment disco knew about the other template as they specifically mention it in a post on your talk page.--Lucy-marie (talk) 15:38, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Comment but you didn't actually read the post you are referring to: this admin states clearly that the other template "was obviously not satisfactory". Blue Danube (talk) 15:58, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I am afraid to make that comment means both templates have not been looked at. As all the info in the characters template appears in the standard 24 template.--Lucy-marie (talk) 16:09, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
You're missing the point. Discospinster knew about the standard 24 template but it wasn't explained to the sysop that it was meant as a replacement. If you used the edit summary to link to it and explain your actions, Discospinster, myself, Scogg, Coffee, and Moonriddengirl would have all understood what you were doing. Please realize this is on account of your desire to avoid linking and explaining in edit summaries and your persistence in appearing to make unilateral decisions while removing content. Blue Danube (talk) 19:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for blocking that user. Wikipedia would be so much better if we didn't have users like him Techman224 (talk) 01:44, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Not sure what you're doing, here. These guys keep adding unsourced info, and I'm using the official site as reference. Why revert my edits? 81.67.21.178 (talk) 06:57, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

for the reverts to my talk page. Much appreciated. Karenjc 22:20, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Reversions to vandalism on "Recent changes"

You /are/ quick at spotting/fixing those! I spent a little time just now watching for those and you pounced in just ahead of me three times in a row (Drummuir was the latest). Huggle *is* a useful tool, I presume? ;) Cheers & Keep up the good work, David. Harami2000 (talk) 02:34, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

> I'm not getting paid for that, I promise.
*lol*. Is /anyone/ around here?
I'll probably have a nose over to check that out some time. So much to do, eh?
Just a quick question aside, anyhow, if you don't mind; for personal reference to get a feel for that important (but easily overlooked) aspect of keeping content on WP running smoothly. From your personal observations, how good /is/ the "rapid reversion" coverage at present, compared with a "24*7" ideal with more than one person keeping tabs online at "all times"?
Kind regards, David. Harami2000 (talk) 02:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Mhmm... there are a large number of people with the rollback rights required to utilise Huggle and it gives a fair advantage to enact those reversions rapidly, as required.
>it's pretty darn good and getting better. Would you agree with that assessment?
Was difficult to get a feel for how that plays out on a global basis, hence my enquiry: thanks for your reply and good to hear that positive tone. General observation would tend to bear that out in recent months, IMHO.... more fine work by the "invisibles", no? :)
From what I've seen, some of the more subtle "vandalism", especially that which appears credible or is actually closer to low-grade spouting of unsourced and "probably untrue" information, is probably /always/ going to be more difficult to filter out. I've been picking up a few bits-and-pieces whilst browsing various articles, along with the likes of Special:Contributions/70.233.248.111, for example.
Best wishes/TTFN, David. Harami2000 (talk) 03:08, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

More thanks

Thank you for the rvv on my talk page yesterday. I noticed you on RCP last night (UK time) - your huggverts were mostly way faster than mine :-)  —SMALLJIM  09:19, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I must admit it...

You are faster than I am! (Get the Princess Bride reference?)

D, I'm trolling recent changes and for the last two attempts at HG-reverting, you got to it before me. Very impressive! Serves me right for being on WP the same time as you. Keep it up! --Figureskatingfan (talk) 02:56, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

After I wrote this note, I tried to continue reverting, and you beat me two more times! Then I actually got to one before you. It's like I'm a stalker or something. And if you ever figure out how to revert vandalism *before* it happens, tell me about it, 'cause I'd like to buy that ability. ;) --Figureskatingfan (talk) 03:14, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Universal Mind

The article is on the New Thought concept of Universal mind not the product which has been added on. The placement seems more like an advertisement then an article on the subject.69.86.63.13 (talk) 19:22, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Don't forget to re-protect

Hi. Check the sequence here. When you deleted and restored the article, my move protection disappeared so it was re-vandalized. You'll need to re-protect after removing the vandal edits. —Wknight94 (talk) 03:18, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

4chan /b/ raid

It has come to my attention that 4chan /b/ people from "Anonymous" have been "raiding" your user talk page. I do not know why this is the case. See [2] if it hasn't 404ed yet and scroll down to #86068814 — Rickyrab | Talk 04:24, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of spelling template

Why did you delete my spellling template? You tossed it out less than a day after it was placed. If you know of a pre-existing template about that, Please place it on my talk page. --Ipatrol (talk) 21:58, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't recall deleting such a template. What was it called? ... discospinster talk 02:17, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter

I was NOT the user that created the page, all I did was move the page once. YBK

Deletion of Jack Hobbs (Balliol)

You must get a lot of complaints about deletions you perform but please hear me out.

I provided clear reasons for the notability of the subject. Junior common rooms of Oxford colleges are run as democracies, the decision to alter standing policy in such a manner is a prime example of the eccentricities associated with Balliol and a noteworthy section of its history. Such a change in policy is indeed unique and more notable than you may realise. How can you possibly judge whether such a character is notable or worthy of a biography when you can't understand the context in which Jack Hobbs is notorious? Futhermore, my article doesn't violate policies in the biographies of living persons. The view is that of the majority as is demonstrated in the perfectly reliable reference direct to the balliol jcr website(standing policy i.e. 2/3 vote minimum). I believe the biography comes under the non-public figure. Check the reference, this is worth documenting.

Taj Mahal

Thank you for moving the test subpages from mainspace to my userspace (I'm well aware of WP:SUBPAGES and its history - some of which is rather archaic and obstruse now - see the 'see also' section at User:Joopercoopers/Tabbed articles)- perhaps you'll now finish the job and fix the tab code so they link properly in my userspace, or am I required to clean up after you? regards --Joopercoopers (talk) 16:09, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Ok (thought this was a collaborative project). Perhaps you might let me know what's happened to Origins and architecture of the Taj Mahal/Gallery which seems to have disappeared and not reapperared in my user space. Cheers. --Joopercoopers (talk) 19:07, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Discospinster! Long time no talk... I have added a COI warning to the creator's talkpage on this article, since I suspect him to be inventor or co-inventor of the product mentioned. I have advised him to cease editing on it and pass all future edits through the article's talk page. If you look at his username, vandermg, and look at the inventor's names, you will see what I mean! :) Regards, and don't be a stranger! Thor Malmjursson (talk) 02:54, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Well intentioned revert

I see what you were trying to do here, but it looks like you only reverted half of the vandalism. Does Huggle let you easily review your reverts? If so, hopefully you can take more care in ensuring that your reverts get the whole bit of vandalism. Plasticup T/C 02:35, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for reverting vandalism on Don Alfonso (song). Someone must have been EWI to have been so upset when I tried to resolve an editing dispute with a "meet you half way" solution.
