Former to past edit

Hello – I noticed that you've been changing soap character classifications from "former" to "past". I agree with the changes, since it complies with the infobox rules. However, I was just wondering how you're going about it – are you working in alphabetical order? – DarkGlow (✉) 22:02, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Thank you so much for the message :) Today I was just going through random articles, but this was my planned order: 1.) Go through all the EastEnders articles by years (so go through the 1985 characters, then 1986,etc.) 2.) Hollyoaks characters by years 3.) Emmerdale Characters by years 4.) Coronation Street characters by years 5.) Home and Away characters by years 6.) Neighbours characters by years I will start now :) Do you think the priority order should be adjusted? DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 22:06, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Also! I forgot Doctors, Holby City and Casualty - I will do those too afterwards. Since I have finished university for this term, I will have more free time and hopefully finish by the end of this year :) DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 22:13, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Go with whatever order you want to choose! That order seems fine to me. I frequently edit soap lists, so I'll make sure to adjust "former" to "past" whenever I do. I'll take care of all of the Doctors articles since I want to do some more work on them, so don't worry about them.   – DarkGlow (✉) 14:51, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) Instead of doing it manually, it might be easier to use WP:AWB or get a bot to do it. Also, was there a discussion about such a mass change to hundreds of articles anywhere? Not a criticism, just curious. - JuneGloom07 Talk 18:02, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@JuneGloom07: I assumed there had been a discussion prior to the changes being made, hence why I didn't question them – I'm guessing there was no discussion then? I do agree with the changes, but there certainly should have been a discussion. – DarkGlow (✉) 20:35, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hey! First of all, thank you so much for your support and kindness - I really appreciate it 😊 I have gotten through lots of characters so far, which is good! As for the discussion, I apologise - I had noted that the MOS and USA soaps used "Past", and I started noticing that some UK soap characters had past, so I decided to change all the rest of the characters too, in order to avoid confusion (e.g. So a viewer wouldn't think that "past" and "former" are different things, such as past being for deceased characters). A short discussion was started but no one ever commented on it. I apologise for this - I am really sorry DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 05:40, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

When I start a discussion on changes, I usually ping editors that commonly work on that genre of article, just a tip for the future   Also, all of the Doctors articles have been amended by myself! – DarkGlow (✉) 19:45, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) Just to let you know ahead of time, Casualty and Holby City shouldn't need the change to be made as they are not a soap opera, and therefore use a different infobox template (and do not use classification in the infobox)   - Soaper1234 - talk 11:39, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'll take care of the Neighbours articles as they're all on my watchlist. The reason I asked about a discussion is so that if the changes are questioned, I would have something to link back to. But I guess I can direct people to the Template documentation and MoS. I think another discussion about whether to include 'past' or 'former' at all will likely take place in the future, since "Classic" episodes are now being aired on TV and therefore those characters are technically 'present'. - JuneGloom07 Talk 20:04, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
There was a start to a discussion on Template talk:Infobox soap character; I have only just seen it as I was not watching the template until now. – DarkGlow (✉) 20:25, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have commented there as to why I disagree with the changes.Rain the 1 21:18, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Emmerdale task force edit

Hello – I notice that you are an active soap opera editor, and wanted to reach out to invite you to join the Emmerdale task force following its recent revival. There is a list of tasks that we're looking to achieve on the Emmerdale articles, you can find those on the linked page. If you want to join the community, just add your name to the list of active participants! Have a nice day   – DarkGlow (contribs • talk) 16:38, 1 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey! I was actually going to ask to be part of it! For me it would be mainly the storyline section – adding recent developments, changing from past to present tense, rewriting things etc. as well as the lead. I will put my name down later today:) DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 17:08, 1 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I literally hate doing storyline sections, they're my least favourite thing about soap editing! – DarkGlow (contribs • talk) 17:36, 1 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Updating and Adding B&B character photos. edit

I don't suppose if anyone can add photo's to Bold and The Beautiful characters that haven't been uploaded before such as Flo, Zende, Carter, James Warwick, Finn, Sasha, Shauna, Zoe and Paris?

I don't know how to do it well. JaydienMS (talk) 13:20, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Thank you for reaching out 😊 As much as I'd love to upload images for them, none of these characters have their own articles, and most don't even have their own section. If they have their own section, a photo of the actor can be used. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 19:05, 3 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want we could create a 2019 page for them ? DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 19:06, 3 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey, so we've seen each other around the community and we seem to agree with the same ideas! I'd just like to say thanks for the support with my suggestions! I've also been wanting to create a page for a certain Neighbours family and I was wondering if you would like to help me? - Therealscorp1an (talk) 01:57, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey!! I actually wanted to reach out to you but I was too shy... thank you for being so lovely! I would love to help you – the only problem is that I so not watch Neighbours but I am still happy to help 😊😊 DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 02:13, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay, so I'm having email issues (if you could still please answer my question above, that'd be great!). In the meantime, I've put the draft on my sandbox, so you can view it there! - Therealscorp1an (talk) 11:55, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I think the email is visible, but don't worry, I don't do anything with it DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 15:14, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Alright. Well until I get the email sorted out, could you please check my sandbox, as I've put the draft there and we can talk about it on my sandbox talk page! (Thank you very much for the help btw!) - Therealscorp1an (talk) 21:28, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Just a question edit

Hey. I have a quick question. If in a soap opera a character has a miscarriage, does the baby get added to the infobox? If you could when when you can, that'd be great! Thanks! - Therealscorp1an (talk) 00:03, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Usually, if the baby is named (e.g. Michelle Connor and Steve McDonald named the baby they miscarried, as did Ricky Butcher and Bianca Jackson, Nicole Walker, Daniel Jonas, Bernadette Taylor etc.) then they are added to the infobox. Hope this helps! DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 00:39, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

What happens if a baby passes away before it is born? Does it still get added? - Therealscorp1an (talk) 01:27, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

The same thing. If the baby is named, then they are added DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 01:58, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hollyoaks edit

You re-added the Osbornes to Tom Cunningham's info box and stated they adopted him in 2013. Where did you get that information from?Rain the 1 08:13, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey! At the end of 2013 on screen Jack and Frankie told Tom that they would adopt him. This happened on the episode on 31 December 2013. I watched the episode online back in 2018, but it has since been removed. Although there was never actual confirmation of the adoption having taken place, Frankie and Jack acted as his legal guardians and Tom was and still is considered part of the Osbornes. So whilst on screen it was not often stated "Oh yay the adoption is finalised", it is assumed that it was. Regardless of whether Tom was completely adopted or not by them, he is their legal or at least foster child. It kind of is like the situation with Phil Mitchell adopting Dennis Jr... he stated that he wanted to adopt him, and he acted like his legal guardian, but it was never 100% confirmed that the adoption was fully finalised. However, Frankie and Jack definitely did tell Tom that they had agreed to adopt him. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 20:01, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I cannot link the edit for some reason, but if you look at the edits that were made on 31 December 2013, it was stated in the storylines section that they had agreed to adopt him. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 20:06, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I watched every episode from 2006 until 2016 without missing an episode. You said 2013. Tom's birthday occurs on the final day of the year and any adoption would not have been finalised until 2014. They never adopted him though. It caused an issue with Ruby and Cindy and was never mentioned again.Rain the 1 20:34, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Partyclams: Hey! I hope you are well! I was asking if Eileen Davidson appeared on the main show as well this week - I know that she appeared in Beyond Salem (Yay!) but I wasn't sure if she had appeared on the main show, as I live in the UK and thus cannot watch them properly :( (other than clips people post on instagram/twitter/youtube etc.) and I wanted to know if she had appeared on the main show as well as I love Eileen Davidson! I am asking because I saw you add "2021" to Eileen's duration on the Previous Days of Our Lives Cast Members list.

Question edit

Hello. I just had a quick question. Let's say that, via information from DigitalSpy, we discovered that the father of a baby isn't actually the baby's father, but this information has not yet been aired on television. Do we update the characters' infoboxes yet or wait for it to air? - Therealscorp1an (talk) 03:30, 13 September 2021 (UTC). Apologies if that was confusing.Reply

No worries, it is a valid question. I think we do update the information, because that is what has been done in the past :) I hope you're doing well! DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 03:35, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merged years edit

I did start a discussion on the talk page and you didn't respond, so I felt free to just carry on editing the page as it was for several years (an unnecessary split and rename aside) until you suddenly took it upon yourself last year to strip it of content without discussion. If there was a discussion "years ago", then when was it, where is it and who took part? It seems at times as though a group of self-appointed watchdogs make up their own rules and expect other editors to abide by them. So I'm sorry, but I really don't see where your license is to misrepresent and inflate character's tenures by acting as though because they appeared in a couple of episodes per year that makes them a regular. Skteosk (talk) 23:37, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I hope you are doing well. The original discussion took place here several years ago and has been the standard practise since. If it was not the standard practise, I would not have changed it, but it is, so I was making it consistent with the articles, the other soap pages, the current soap pages etc. Again, had this not been discussed and agreed on years ago, I would not have changed it. I did not make up my own rules, I was following the standard practise. I understand that you want to show that there has been a break, but a duration is meant to show the years that a character has appeared on the show. Seeing long durations such as "2006–2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015" etc makes the list extremely long and hard to read and wikipedia is meant to be accessible for everyone. Additionally, this makes consistency for everything. For example, if a character appeared in December 2013 and then January 2014, one user could think that duration should be "2013, 2014" due to the one month break, whilst another would think it should be "2013–2014". And so it would be hard to discuss what counts as a separate year or not. 6 months? 3 months? 9 months? A year? It would create a lot of arguments and problems. Additionally, if a read wants to know more about when a character appeared, they can click on their page and see the casting (and for most H+A characters, the information is in the lead already).
Also, the reason I did not contribute to the discussion is because I did not see it until much later, and no one had spoken in weeks when I saw it, and I did not want to open up old wounds as I saw that people were getting very tense. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 00:04, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I don't see why an extreme case would necessarily affect things. I mean, I do take the point than there can be some disagreement, but it's equally hard to understand if a character is listed as a permanent fixture on the show at a time when they weren't. I don't see why including a full list of tenures is "hard to read". I thank you for providing the discussion. Skteosk (talk) 09:13, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello! edit

Hello, I hope you are well. 😊 I just wanted to say thank you for restoring the deleted content on Sam Mitchell. Since the user had removed content without explaining why, I left a polite generic note on their page explaining about explaining changes. There are also a couple things you may be interested in:

You may also find this useful. It’s a link to all the generic warnings you can leave on disruptive users’ talk pages. You don’t have to be an administrator to add them either. There are different levels as well. For example, the first message is like ‘Hello, I’m User…’ and the second is something like ‘Please refrain from making un-constructive edits’ and eventually ‘You may be blocked next time you disrupt’. There are many messages for many different issues. For example, vandalism, adding unsourced material, removing content without explanation and many more! What I do, is I go up in steps. I start with the polite one and eventually build up to the block warning. After 4 or 5 warnings you can file a report against them at WP:ANI or WP:AIV. Sometimes (depending on how severe the vandalism and if they have been warned in the past), I may go straight to level 2 warning.

Another thing you may like is Twinkle. Twinkle is a software which allows responsible users like yourself to revert (sometimes several) edits, warn disruptive users, report disruptive users who haven’t listened to the warnings, request page protection on articles which are persistently being disrupted and many more things. To enable it, go to preferences > gadgets and scroll down to ‘Twinkle’ and tick the box. Then save your changes, and when reading articles or looking at users talk pages, the initials ‘TW’ will appear on the options bar. It is not available on the mobile site although you can still access it on a mobile by switching to desktop version.

Let me know if you have any questions   Blanchey (talk) 09:53, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Blanchey: Hey, I am really sorry for the lateness - I completely missed this on my talk page! Thank you for suggesting this :) I have known about warning editors but I really do not like doing this as I do not want to upset/annoy anyone. But I may start using it soon, especially as I have seen people add offensive stuff on pages and being so rude to other editors... Thank you for suggesting Twinkle! I will try to get it at some point.. but I am a bit careful about not using Wikipedia too much/getting too invested in it, as I tend to get too invested in things and that can be unhealthy. There have been times when I have gotten too invested in pages here and then other editors delete them etc... so I try to not do too much these days. And some editors can be really rude sometimes too :( DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 06:34, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey, don’t worry about it! Thanks for letting me know how you feel about it, and you’re right. Sometimes doing this can be quite investing and I will admit that I have been using Wikipedia a lot recently and it can get quite overwhelming lol! I hope you are well though!   Blanchey (talk) 10:17, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ratings and article archives edit

Hello! I am currently in the middle of writing a certain Neighbours storyline and I was wondering if you knew a few things. I am having issues trying to find television ratings for the two episodes this storyline aired on (in terms of Australian and British ratings). For Australian ratings (which I know you may not be too familiar with), I have attempted to use TV Tonight/David Knox's report, but I only have access up until the ratings from November 2019, when I am looking for October 2015 ratings. Do you know a way to find these ratings? I also cannot access old Digital Spy Neighbours articles in any archives. Would you be aware of where to find/access these? I have also asked another editor for this information, I was just curious to see if you knew either. Thank you! - Therealscorp1an (talk) 05:03, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from C. J. Garrison into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 19:30, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I did not copy anything and claim it as my own – the page was deleted and I merged it onto another page, as it should have been merged rather than lost. Hey. The terms of the WP:CC BY-SA license require that to the extent reasonably practicable, the URI be included in attribution summaries, which is why it is important to include a link in the edit summary. Wikipedians agree that a hyperlink or URL is sufficient attribution under the Creative Commons license whenever we submit content, and links are reasonably practical to include on Wikipedia, which is why it is important to both disclose the copying and link to the copied page. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 20:35, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Soap character family categories edit

Hi, I believe that fictional family categories for soaps are largely unnecessary and in-universe, and I ask that you start a discussion about it at WP:SOAPS and/or series articles before you create any more and add them to character articles. As far as the work you've already done, my biggest concern at the moment is that you really should be disambiguating these fictional topic categories from potential real-world topic categories. For example, it should probably be Category:Buchanan family characters (One Life to Live) instead of Category:Buchanan family.— TAnthonyTalk 17:09, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey – I hope you are well! I have disambiguated the articles which already have a real life categories (e.g. the Brady family), but I will disambiguate them from now on and ask my Page Mover friend Meena to move the others. I don't think that this is an in-universe issue as it shows how the characters are linked and how families are a big part of soap operas, said by soap opera producers/actors/writers themselves, and thus helps readers by helping them make the link. Many editors have cut down the "relatives" parameters to include only interacting relatives (which I strongly disagree with as most readers do not know this and thus they will think that 2 characters are not related when they in fact are) and thus this helps readers by making it clearly rather than having to say it in the article (which I think is much more in universe). There have already been family categories before I started making more DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 17:21, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply. I say in-universe because we already have articles like Buchanan family that do the same thing as a category and much more, and we should avoid categorizing articles by plot-related characteristics that don't have a broader scope across other media, like Category:Fictional surgeons.— TAnthonyTalk 19:06, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Women in Red edit

Hi there, DaniloDaysOfOurLives, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to hear you intend to work on soap opera actresses. As you have not yet created any biographies, you should find it useful to look at some of our essays, perhaps starting with our Ten Simple Rules. Perhaps you already have some names in mind; if not you can no doubt find some deserving subjects by browsing through our Redlist index and searching for actresses or fictional women. Please let me know if you run into difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:38, 23 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Ipigott: I am so sorry for the lateness. I kept meaning to reply but kept putting it off! Thank you so much for the lovely kind message and for being so lovely. It means so much! I am currently writing 3 Women in Red related articles (for actresses Katelyn MacMullen, Kelsey Wang and Garcia Brown - I am happy to direct you to the sandboxes if you would like?). I also meant to ask, do fictional women count? If so I have already published an article for one (Zoe Anderson). DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 10:15, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm glad to see you have begun to create various biographies. I'll look at them later. We welcome articles about fictional characters at Women in Red but only the biographies of real people are taken into account in the official statistics of biographies of women as a proportion of the total. Happy editing.--Ipigott (talk) 10:25, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please send me the links to your drafts and I'll let you know how they are progressing.--Ipigott (talk) 15:58, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Lola returning edit

Thank you for putting lola back as I have put her back now about 5 times and it keeps getting removed for some reason Adavid299 (talk) 20:13, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

No problem! 😊 I think it's because usually if a character appears in archive footage it is not counted as a return, but in this case it is (I think) newly created scenes and hence she is returning – plus, there is a source saying she is returniny DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 20:48, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi I was just wondering do we change lolas classification to present recurring as we did with Lucy back in 2020. Can we not change it now? Adavid299 (talk) 20:16, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Neighbours 2023 edit

Hey, there. I am assuming you've heard about the news regarding the new Neighbours characters and recasting? It is on all the Neighbours social media, if you haven't seen it. So it seems that Nell, Hugo and Leo's daughter have all been recast and there will be a time jump. Have you found any sources online for this? I've been looking around but they seem pretty scarce. Thanks! - Therealscorp1an (talk) 11:48, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey! My hugest apologies, I think I missed this. I'm so sorry! I have heard the news about the characters being recast but I only heard rumours about the time jump. It seems that the recastings have already been added to the tables etc but just in case, if there are reliable sources talking about the recasts/time jump they can be added. I hope that helps! Your revert to my edit on Sinead O'Connor (Hollyoaks) edit

Hi DaniloDaysOfOurLives,

I'm genuinely pleased to make your acquaintance. Thanks for your very civil edit summary on reverting me, and absolutely no offence taken, but I must admit I don't understand what you mean by "makes the source page more complicated" – by definition, wiki content generally relies on complex markup/metadata, and the effect of my tiny tweaks will have been negligible.

I can see from your user page that you are a soap opera fan, and I imagine you keep a watchful eye over many related wiki pages, particularly Hollyoaks, but your revert of my edit appears to imply an element of 'ownership'. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Ownership of content. I believe my edits were useful and constructive so I was surprised (but not offended) by your revert. I see you came to wiki-editing about 6 months after me, and you've made about 14,000 mainspace edits, so you have lots of experience. Here's just a bit of explanation for my tweaks.

  • The infobox contains a number of incomplete line-break tags which, although acceptable (H:BR), have the consequence of botching the markup text below (have you noticed that all the body hypertext appears pink-highlighted when it should be non-highlighted?) – this might depend on the display mode you are using in the edit area but it shows up a treat in colour display mode! Best to clear it out by simply adding the / to the br tags. It's sometimes easier (and tidier) to use list markup in infoboxes.
  • The non-breaking space (nbsp) is very useful in dates as it prevents the numeral and the month being separated at the end of the line. When I first viewed the page, the "1 September 2010" was displaying for me as "1" at the end of a line, followed by "September 2010" at the start of the line below, which looks 'off' and is best avoided. It's usually best to keep the two pieces of the date 'stuck together' for all display sizes, requiring the use of the non-breaking space – see MOS:NBSP.
  • The apostrophe thing is just a style preference per wiki MOS (see MOS:'S) and there are several examples in Steve Davis's article. I've reinstated that change.

At the end of the day, I'm pretty neutral on all this really, but I do love the English language and enjoy discussing it with others, so thank you for giving me this opportunity. Funnily enough, the only reason I visited the page is because I've recently been working on SinĂŠad O'Connor's article, following her death, but I'm mainly interested in source reviews. Have a great day! Rodney Baggins (talk) 11:30, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey! I am so sorry for my lateness - I have been feeling really unwell recently and have been not doing well and thus I missed this. I am so so terribly sorry!
First of all I completely know what ownership is as I have struggled with the same thing on Wikipedia as some editors refuse to allow good changes due to not wanting "their" articles changed (I put theirs in " as often they have not even made it!), but in this case this was not a case of ownership (I have not even edited that particular article that much).
Thank you so much for explaining your edits.
My explanation goes:
1.) I thought that just listening without the "/" was acceptable per the MOS page that you supplied (they used to advise against it but the guidance changed in the past year or so) and I removed it as I thought it was unnecessary and I was told by a more experienced editor once that adding additional characters makes the page take longer to load for those with slow internet and thus I was trying to avoid it by just using "< b r >" (I am spacing it out so it wont make a break). I also thought that using less bytes also makes the page look cleaner and easier to edit.
2.) The same thing - I thought it was just adding extra bytes.
3.) Thank you for explaining that to me!
Have a lovely week! DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 08:25, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Zoe Anderson.jpeg edit

Invitation edit

Hello DaniloDaysOfOurLives, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.

New page reviewer granted edit

Hi DaniloDaysOfOurLives. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. – Joe (talk) 13:18, 20 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

I thought I would try to reach out one last time. If you read the article on The Best Sleepover in the World in reader mode in your browser, paying only attention to the text, when you’re finished, pretend that the article was deleted and you have no backup copies. Now open a text file and try to rewrite it from scratch from your memory, not copying the words but the ideas and the concepts, using new words to write it. Let me know how it goes. It’s a helpful technique to force you to paraphrase. Viriditas (talk) 02:41, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ryan Prescott Coronation Street Question edit

I had a small question about the List of Coronation Street Characters page. Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan on CS left the programme in December and it's just been confirmed on Digital Spy and in a CS official Twitter video that he is returning shortly. A new user, Corriefan1245 has added Ryan in the returning characters section. My question is, since the character is returning 2 months after his departure, should he just be reintroduced in the Regular Characters section as his absence from CS is less than a year, just like maternity leaves and panto breaks. I thought that I had seen Meena or some other long term editor mentioning that. Can we move Ryan Prescott back into the regular cast section now before he actually returns. https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/a46765115/coronation-street-ryan-prescott-ryan-connor-return/ Thanks, I was just curious. 135.0.252.54 (talk) 02:15, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I completely agree that he can be moved to the present "Regular characters" section, as his "departure" was never confirmed to be permanent and it was only 2 months, so I agree that he does not need to be in "Returning". New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024 edit

Hello DaniloDaysOfOurLives,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
