Note that it's an acceptable (within guidelines) conversational style here to ping-pong. I think more and more people are trending away from it (as I have) but it's not "wrong". Just inconvenient. ++Lar: t/c 18:51, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

just a note

This warning: [1] is probably the sort you'll want to avoid in future... it was placed 4 months after the last contribution by the user you warned, and as was pointed out by several posters, is rather harsh. I know you know that now... but it's something to keep in mind. That user's not been around since, but if they ever turn up again, you may want to apologise. Hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 22:53, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

(Refactored from User_talk:Lar per my policy) Re, your message, I should have looked into that a bit more, all I saw at the time was a user who was continuously uploading images without licensing information, with no stop in sight. I'll try to avoid doing such in the future.— dαlus Contribs 00:09, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Nod. The odd thing about it though, was that the user hadn't done any uploads (or had any activity at all...) for 4 months at that point. I checked deleted (and oversighted) contributions as well, just to be sure I hadn't missed something in the contribs, and there were no deleted or oversighted contribs more recent than 4 months earlier. To be fair, that user strikes me as rather an odd case, Brion Vibber, our CTO, created a permission, and granted it to them, a permission never since given to any other user on en:wp that I could find. (which I just took away when Xeno asked about it(, which is why I noticed the message in the first place). Thanks for the follow up note to Heather... they may never come back but it was a good thing to do. (let's keep the thread here, ok? but I think we're probably done) ++Lar: t/c 00:42, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

G'day daed

hope you're good :-) - I thought I'd swing by after what I think was our first interaction over at AN/I in the thread you started about Jack bothering you. As you noticed, I don't think that was a good venue for raising your concern, and if I'm honest, I don't think you went about it in the best possible way - but I am most certainly well up for explaining to you why I feel that way, or having any sort of conversation, if you'd like. If you sometimes feel that folk misunderstand you, or you find that folk are getting angry, confused, irritated, or rude for reasons you feel are nothing to do with you - there may still be ways you can adapt and evolve your behaviour to smooth the path, not just for others, but importantly for you! - happy to chat if you'd like :-) Privatemusings (talk) 10:45, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Daedalus. I was wondering if you could help me confirm whether User:Dimitri Yankovich is a sock of User:Wapondaponda? He's already been blocked indefinitely by an admin, and I just want to make sure the allegation is correct. The editing pattern is certainly suspicious.

Carrt81

Rather than being a re-actionist, why don't you revisit Carrt81's talkpage and look at the whole story - especially the one where an admin warned him of his actions on my talkpage. I used courtesy and even told him he could do what he wanted with his talkpage. Look at the names and accusations he used in the link from the admin. In fact, here is the link [[2]], after reviewing the language and accusations there, you may see my concerns. And you are not an ADMIN, so next time you think someone is in "fear" as you describe Carrt81, remember his stalking comments from the link. I asked him politely to begin aknew and remove old issues, he didn't so I removed them due to the passing of time. What do you ask people who have black eyes, "What did you do to deserve that?". You talk like you want to start a war - I don't scare, so stop the intimidation method. Review the actions taken on Carrt81's actions on the admin review page, then speak. As to WP policy, this may be a case where reponding on another users talk page may need to be changed in order to leave the flow of the conversations intact - so people like you don't come along and take sides without the aility to see the flow of the coversations and how they progress. I probably shouldn't get involved, but I don't want to see a fight between two people get out of control :) Victor9876, it seems like you and Daedalus969 are having a big misunderstanding to me. I think it would be better if you both simply forget this incident and act like it never happened. He wasn't trying to attack you, simply inform you of policies, etc. At Wikipedia, it's encouraged that everyone participate to their heart's content, but respect the policies that are in place, too. Nobody, not even admins, make mistakes, and it's not expected that policies will be followed 100%. But when they're not followed, there's ways to correct that. That's all he was trying to do -- trying to make this a better place for all of us. --Mpdelbuono (talk) 21:16, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

I was about to revert myself, but you beat me to it. :) I really don't get what's up with this thing. But basically you've got a series of socks who don't like "band queer" as a term, and they are using wiki guidelines about links as a pretext for removing it. But their real issue, from the beginning, has been objections to the term "band queer". I don't care one way or another, I'm not in a band, not queer, and not an Aggie at that, nor even a Texan. Please re-visit Sean Hannity page

Hi,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sean_Hannity#Requests_for_comment_on_inclusion_of_Sean_Hannity.27s_political_views_on_waterboarding

I believe you may have misconstrued my proposed edit to Sean Hannity's article. I would like to include a section on Sean Hannity's political views, which I believe is quite relevant for a political commentator (and common for all other political commentators I have viewed as of yet). My proposal was not to include Sean Hannity's volunteering to undergo waterboarding, which I agree is WP:RECENTISM. It is simply to include Sean Hannity's political views as a section, specifically waterboarding, which is an issue that will be covered in history books 100 years from now. I would like to establish a full "political views" section. If you have some argument against this I would enjoy hearing it.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stargnoc (talkcontribs) 00:31, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey there! I'm a bit new here, and I found your page through your picture of the hummingbird, which I have to say is astonishing. :)

Anyway, I ALSO liked the quote at the beginning of the page, and was actually intrigued by another quote from Smith, about humans being a Virus, and I decided I'd look at the code by "editing".

Now, my main question is this; when I click edit on your page, it showed warnings at the top of the edit box, and I was wondering if you created them, or if they were installed by an administrator?

Also, I was wondering about your "Status" button at the top of the page. I've been trying to set up my user page in a nice manner, and would appreciate some help on these.

CSDing of Irish Peers

I am a little concerned by your CSD tagging of the recent spate of "O'Brien" late medieval Irish Lords. While it may seem that someone is creating a family tree of articles, each on its own could arguably pass WP:POLITICIAN, as Irish peers were the major national legislators of the time (Irish House of Lords) also, being an Irish Peer is likely an "indication of significance" in terms of WP:CSD#A7. I'm not majorly concerned, but I would be pleased if you revisited the taggings. Cheers. Fribbler (talk) 00:47, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Sorry, I wasn't aware that users were allowed to remove warnings from their own talk pages. Won't happen again... though I do think that doing so confuses admins who might not be aware how many times a user has been warned before. GSMR (talk) 20:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Green Sheet

Hey, Daedalus969? It's me, Green Sheet. Look, I'm really sorry about the proper nouns. I JUST DON'T LIKE YOU ANNOYING ME SO MUCH!!! But on the other hand, I guess you're right. I'm just not sure how things work. I'm still new at this Wikipedian stuff. I just thought it would look better like that. But now I know. However, I'll only captialize them if they're part of a name or title. If you want to leave me a message, just come to my talk page. Oh, and one more thing...thanks. Talk:Jimbo Wales

The good faith removal of {{ec}} from a talk page does not constitute a violation of policy. However, WP:TPO is very clear in stating "Do not strike out or delete the comments of other editors without their permission." Could you please explain why you deleted my comments? 69.117.250.169 (talk) 01:27, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

I re-added it. Please do not remove the (edit conflict) tag.— dαlus Contribs 01:58, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

My Jung changes

Dear Daedalus,

Please help me, or perhaps explain further why interpreting Jung's description of Hitler and his followers as 'drunk' and 'warlike' is considered 'original research'. If Jung used those terms positively elsewhere, I'd like to be pointed in that direction. Jung was a great scholar; he deserves at least to be supported with evidence when accused of so heinous a crime as Nazism.

Thanks for your time,

Gaz.

PS I think the wiki- is pretty good. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gary pratt (talkcontribs) 10:21, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Sockpuppet "news"

Please refrain from posting "news" of editor blocks to article talk pages, especially ones where they didn't influence an official process (AFD, RFC, etc.). //Blaxthos ( t / c ) 01:29, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Same-sex marriage

Hi, I know that you are a significant contributor to the article on Same-sex marriage, and that you have a dispute with TheFix63 over the lead section. Having looked at both sections, I find TheFix63's version to be more neutral than the existing version, as I explain in depth on the talk page, Talk:Same-sex marriage. You seem determined to revert any changes made to the lead until they are discussed, so I will not change it at this time. Instead, I eagerly await your opinion on the talk page. Thanks in advance for reading and considering my opinion! Rising*From*Ashes (talk) 01:56, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

My talk page

Your edits of my talk page are unbelievable. You tell me that it's fine to, and in fact you yourself do, delete comments made by other users in open discussion, but you undo my striking of comments made inside an archive after archiving?! How does that work? ~~ Dr Dec (Talk) ~~ 01:50, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

About the rmving of vandals, considering the topic at hand and the fact that the practice IS considered controversial, wouldn't it have been better just to let him revert it himself? Considering how much cross-fire there's been it's just antagonistic to keep rmving it at this point. He's even stated that he will rever if asked, just let it be for now... Soxwon (talk) 02:15, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Daedalus, I suggest you stop reverting that edit. It is doing nothing but causing more animosity. –túrianpatois 02:21, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Look Daed, can't it wait like 24 hours? Surely it won't cause the world to explode if it stays and he's allowed to calm down. Heck BB doesn't even care. [[ Soxwon (talk) 02:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Enough!

This is a general warning to all participants. No more editing at User talk:Declan Davis. Leave the issue alone until the next daytime for this editor, which will be (presuming that this account's autobiography is true) not before at least 08:00 UTC (09:00 xyr local time). This excludes reversions of disruptive vandalism. And that I strongly suggest be left to the administrators who have already been quietly RBIing this particular vandal across several accounts and pages. Blocks will be handed out to enforce calm, and will be timed to expire no sooner than 12:00 UTC. Uncle G (talk) 02:37, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Personal attacks ≠ vandalism

Regarding this edit, are you aware that as per Wikipedia's official Vandalism policy, personal attacks are explicitly not vandalism? — Kralizec! (talk) 02:53, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

  • I'm responding here because it is too hot in this room and I am tired. I was not aware of that, thank you for the note.— dαlus Contribs 02:54, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

  • For what it's worth, it's part of a pattern of disruptive vandalism, aimed at Baseball Bugs, that has been occurring across several pages, and that has been being quietly reverted, blocked, and ignored. The vandal decided to come into a bad situation that Baseball Bugs happened to be participating in and stir the pot a bit, and (as Baseball Bugs noted) several editors took the bait. Uncle G (talk) 03:28, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks.

I really am trying to learn how to work all this Wiki stuff so please excuse me if I'm wrong in posting this here. Just wanted to say thanks for your response as to why my signature was considered fake. Is there anything else I need to do to make sure that I post things correctly?Quazza97 (talk) 23:42, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Request for arbitration filed

This is to let you know that I've filed a request for arbitration at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Scope of NLT concerning a case in which you have commented at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive560#Legal threats by Milomedes. I have not listed you as an involved party; should you, however, prefer to be considered involved, let me know and I'll add you to the list.  --Lambiam 12:10, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Oh please

That is besides the point. Another user took control of the talk page for my user. Want me to raise an ANI? Dracula the v.o.d. (talk) 01:57, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Threats won't get you anywhere, especially those that lack any base.— dαlus Contribs 01:59, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
It is "his" in the definition that he can remove stuff. Why start pointless conflicts? –túrianpatois 02:07, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Please read all relevant material instead of commenting without any knowledge. I relayed that he can remove messages, I just clarified that it isn't his.— dαlus Contribs 02:10, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
That is beside the point. It is about one user taking control of another's talk page. WP:OWN is not relevant. Why did you leave a message on my talk page anyway. It is between me and another user. Dracula the v.o.d. (talk) 02:13, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
What goes on wikipedia is everyone's business. I left the note to alert you that the talk page was not yours, as you are a new user. However, as said, you are allowed to remove messages.— dαlus Contribs 02:17, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
