About Descendant WikiProjects edit

Good day! I really fascinated with the British Royalty, so I'm glad there's a WikiProject about it. I am much interested about the Descendant WikiProjects (These past five years or so, I've been tracing back the family tree of Queen Elizabeth II, and fortunately I've come up with good traces). What is this all about? Hedwig0407 01 August 2006

Brilliant user boxes edit

You have some nice user boxes there! I just wanted to thank you for the superb Monarchist user boxes on your userboxes area, every one of which I am using. I tried to create my own with a picture of H.M. the Queen, but it was removed for "unfair use". Thanks Lofty 12:16, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks much for your kind compliments, I am happy to have provided an appreciated service -- DBD 22:59, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:User Wheaten(s) edit

Hi DBD,

What do you think about moving User:DBD/Userboxes/Pets/User Wheaten and User:DBD/Userboxes/Pets/User Wheaten (plus others if you've made them) to your userspace? At some point, they'll probably get moved or deleted anyway. See WP:GUS. Regards, Rfrisbietalk 16:58, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks for the suggestion - I have done as you asked. -- DBD 22:59, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Cool. Is that your dog? I'm the mutt lover.

  Rfrisbietalk 23:42, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lol! Is it that obvious? :P -- DBD 23:44, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
That... and the image upload log!

Invitation edit

Heho, thanks for your invitation, but I'm more interested on peerage and baronetage than on royalty. Greetings and thanks again Phoe 16:20, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Secondary Education Certificate Userboxes edit

Do these have a typo somewhere? [2] Rfrisbietalk 18:03, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, I'm converting to a single template and haven't moved it yet... Bear with me, cheers, DBD 18:05, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay.

Holiday edit

Regretfully, this user is buggering off on holiday on August 8.
Don't worry, it's a caravanning holiday, so he won't be enjoying himself.
He'll be back as soon as possible. Failing that, August 16.

August Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Infoboxes edit

Are the infoboxes really needed for small stub articles? They are just a needless repetition of what it already there. And what has happened to the House templates? Astrotrain 10:32, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, we're going for uniformity across the British Royalty articles, so I would presume that includes smaller articles - and the house templates no longer fit if the infobox is included - but there were extremely lengthy, and the house, parents and issue are included in the infobox... -- DBD 10:36, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I havn't seen any consensus agreed on this matter. The Wikiproject has very few users- and no apparent discussion has taken place. Astrotrain 10:41, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, the infobox was approved after a failed nomination on Templates for deletion, and discussion has indeed been sparse, but it is an unfortunate truth that to wait for democratic discussions and consensus would mean no progress would ever be made - I am merely acting in an attempt to better our project's articles. -- DBD 10:46, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edward VIII edit

You appear to have inserted a "correction" in this article on the basis of an understanding that Ireland was part of the UK in 1936. Of course it wasn't: Ireland was partitioned in 1922. The term "Commonwealth" was certainly in use as early as the Balfour Declaration of 1926 which declared that the old white "dominions" (though Canada was always ambivalent about that term, it having been foisted on the Fathers of Confederation by a nervous Colonial Office which didn't want to offend the USA with the Canadians' preferred title "Kingdom of Canada"). It is, however, rather moot. It would hardly be inaccurate to describe Edward VIII as king of the United Kingdom (and complete that with "of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" if one wanted to be really pedantic). Masalai 00:00, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I apologise profusely for my error re: Ireland - should we add "King of Ireland" to that box? Or is that covered in "her dominions"? Are we comfortable with the use of dominions? Or would we wish to say realms? Or the commonwealth? -- DBD 00:11, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Earlcrown.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Earlcrown.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 12:03, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

British royalty project edit

Thanks for the invite. I do wonder, though, the extent to which such a project is necessary. British royalty is, I think, pretty well-served by Wikipedia. We seem to have articles on just about everyone we might have articles about, and the articles on the major stuff are often pretty good. It seems as though the royalty of other countries is often much more poorly served. Our articles on minor British royals like Prince Arthur of Connaught are often better than the articles on actual ruling monarchs of other countries, e.g. Charles I of Württemberg. john k 16:54, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, the project isn't in creating articles - it's in improving, standardising and so on and so forth. Whilst foreign monarchs may not have great articles, that's neither my area of expertise, nor of my interest. -- DBD 17:19, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject British Royalty edit

Thanks for your invitation to join the WikiProject British Royalty, but if the project covers only the period from George I onwards, I'm afraid I would be of little help, as I am primarily a medievalist. Eixo 00:46, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

That needn't be an issue - the project will include child projects on English and Scottish pre-union royalty, if that's your area of interest... -- DBD 08:18, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
What Eixo said. Honestly, most of my involvement has been making stubby articles for members of both Houses of Parliament and stringing succession boxes, but I'll do what I can. Thanks for the invitation. Choess 04:34, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Infobox British Royalty edit

The box is an excellent addition to the Princess Michael article. I did wonder about removing the caption myself, as it was already obvious who it is. I have not looked, but if there is a similar box for the articles about the other royal personages, especially containing a portrait of equal quality, it can only be a positive enhancement. -- Guy 12:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for you kind compliment - this infobox is in fact intended for every British Royalty article - if your interests lie in that area, do please join our WikiProject! -- DBD 12:34, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Princess_Michael_of_Kent.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Princess_Michael_of_Kent.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
