SVg

I will convert it to SVg while I'm at it, though I wish you would have told me on my talk page, I stumbled apon it by chance. Why is it that you do not have a main page? Do you value your anominimity to let your identity be only known as a string of numbers? Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . 3 09:30, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Right. So I set about trying to convert it to SVG, by opening it with Macromedia fireworks and Paint Shop Pro respectively and trying to save as file type SVG - to no avail, SVG is not even listed in the dropdown save-as menu on either. What to do then, do I need to re-create the Image(s)? Thanks, Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . 3 23:25, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

BJAODN

Regarding this, a friend who found it hilarious posted at BJAODN with my permission. Right after it was posted, however, the user who wrote it originally vandalized it (at BJAODN) to make it seem more sympathetic to his/her position, and it remained that way until I fixed it just now. I think that's why it seemed a bit harsh. Thanks for the head's up. · j e r s y k o talk · 16:48, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Who the Primetime expert is

If you want a real Primetime expert, talk to Connel MacKenzie over at Wiktionary wikt:User talk:Connel MacKenzie, where he is probably one of the best administrator there. He first brought notice of this plagiarist's activities here after fighting him over at Wiktionary. I just mostly catalog other user's work in fighting vandalism here, though I will report and clean up vandalism myself when I spot it. I also report vandals spotted by others when their reports are not put in the right place, like Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. The only two times I have tangled with this vandal is when someone reported one of his socks at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard and when I spotted a confession. My work on Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Primetime was mostly to tidy up the page and to add missing information, like his Jimbo Wales ban and an infobox. Jesse Viviano 05:05, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Posting as an anon in case of Wikistalking. The Anti-Colonel Sanders vandal is B&W Anime Fan (talkcontribspage movesblock userblock log). At the moment he's indefinitely blocked for sockpuppet vandalism with The nothing guy (talk · contribs), and he's emailed me stating that "I will not ever vandalize again if you unblock me, but if you don't I WILL become the next WoW. All you have to do is unblock me. Think about. I would love to help the encyclopedia." We were fortunate enough that he emailed us using his ISP address, so I'm still balancing the prospect of either being able to manage/track this kid through his semi-legitimate, but still disruptive account or report him to his ISP or threatening to do so if we detect him again. In his email he also claims to have a dynamic IP address, so I'm not sure how much resources I want to throw into chasing after him/her. Please keep all replies here for the time being until I've figured out how to deal with B&W Anime Fan and co. with other administrators familiar with his case. Hi anonymous user, I saw your last edits and reverted them here. I guess you had deleted the links because someone was trying to advertise for products (see definition of what´s spam under Wikipedia:Spam). I have no advertising interest at all: I inserted them there because I think that if there are only few manufacturers, then this is relevant to the topic. If I´m wrong about this, please tell me, but please also giving a precise reference to which criterion on Wikipedia:Spam would be infringed. The links really look okay to me. At this point, I'm not sure what additional changes, if any, should be made; however, I will continue to notify you of any new developments regarding these vandals (albeit infrequently). Scobell302 02:51, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

BTW

I strongly suspect that Shultz (talk · contribs) (aka Shultz III (talk · contribs), Shultz IV (talk · contribs), 68.102.193.78 (talk · contribs)) is the Juche vandal on the Korean Wikipedia. Shultz (and his IP) has been known to create redirects of "Kim Il Sung city" to "Seoul" and "Roh Moo Hyun city" to "Pyongyang" across several different Wikis (en, ko, ru to name a few), and one major theme of the Juche vandal was to redirect "Seoul" to "Kim Il Sung City", "Busan" to "Kim Jong Il City", and (less frequently) "Pyongyang" to "Roh Moo Hyun City". In addition, Shultz's IP has made a substantial amount of edits on the Korean Wikipedia related to the WiC template and marking socks. Finally, the Juche vandal announced its retirement on September 11, the same day as Shultz (as Shultz IV)'s last known edit. For more information, please check the contributions for the accounts listed above, as well as the contribs/talk pages of 68.102.193.78 on the Korean and Russian Wikipedias (possible other Wikis as well). (Please note that I'm about to sign off for tonight, so you don't need to respond on my talk page.) Scobell302 03:28, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

The Juche vandal's last edit was from the account ko:사용자:Last message from... to the page ko:사용자토론:On this day, 9-11, WiJ hereby retires. Goodbye! (the message is still visible today). Another think that makes me think that Shultz is the Juche vandal is that the Juche vandal appears to be a native English speaker with some basic knowledge of Korean, which is exactly how Shultz describes himself in his userbox gallery. If you'd like to examine the Juche vandal's edits in more detail, this page lists the vast majority of the accounts he has used. Scobell302 04:24, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

"In this edit, isn't 4 still a majority of 6, or is there some supermajority requirement for closing a case? 68.39.174.238 19:49, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Two separate issues here. First, there are 8 active arbitrators so 5 is the majority. (6 are away). Second, the cases always take 4 net votes to close. (Support minus the oppose votes). Does this explain? FloNight 19:56, 4 November 2006 (UTC)"

Nah, I don't have a problem with that stuff, that editor was clearly misguided. The skin thinning happened in Flow cytometry, which made me rethink attempting to remove spam from most articles. I still have my favorite (sigh) link spammers, whom I revert on a regular basis, but I have generally shied away from the spam "issues".--DO11.10 04:22, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

User:CoolKatt number 99999's userpage

Hi 68!

Thanks for your many contributions to Wikipedia. Is there a reason you keep adding banned-user templates to CoolKatt's userpage? This user, as far as I can tell, has not been banned, and may return after his block expires. He may not edit US TV station articles, but may edit other articles. Adding a banned user template to a user who is not permabanned is a bad idea, per the policy at WP:BAN: Wikipedia's hope for banned users is that they will leave Wikipedia with their pride and dignity intact, whether permanently or for the duration of their ban. As such, it is inappropriate to bait banned users or take advantage of their ban to mock them. While your edit may have not been intended to mock this user, adding a banned user template for a user who has not been banned from editing will only add fuel to the fire, and will not allow this user to make a dignified exit. Firsfron of Ronchester 22:47, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification, and the correction, 68. Best, Firsfron of Ronchester 00:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Newgatery

Wow your Newgatery subpage is great. I recently had a run-in with an unusual vandal that created several random pages, and replaced a talk page and subsequently my user page and talk page, with the Denver International Airport article. The block log refers to them as "the airport vandal". Do you know anything about this vandal? Might it be an appropriate addition to your wall of shame? I certainly consider them unusual but I'm not sure if they're notable :) Dylan Lake (t·c·ε) 00:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: "About the sockpuppetry you've been investigating"

First of all, I must admit my initial "anon-biggotry." I feel ashamed. :) You have a longer history here then I do.

I appreciate your offer... I think RFCU would reject my request since there is no community/arbcom ban and there hasn't been any "votestacking". If you can help me start a Puppet case that would be great. ---J.S (t|c) 23:20, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

The only category he might qualify for is "C. Ongoing, serious pattern vandalism". I'll apply under that and see what happens. He's never been under "remedies issued by the arbitration committee" or "community-based bans or blocks". *shrug* I'll create the request... the worst that can happen is a "no". :) ---J.S (t|c) 04:10, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Some more article history but not all is on the corresponding Wikipedia space page. That make sense? --BozMo talk 06:42, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Some more of the edit history is buried in the middle of http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Wikipedia-CD/Download&action=history btw.

Incidentally your comment on the AfD on the current version article (which I have tried to cite a bit more etc) would be appreciated. You are obviously a pretty clued up editor and I'd respect your opinion even if you decide on balance we ought to put it back in Wikipedia space. I still think its a weak keep, but obviously other people have legit other views. --BozMo talk 12:26, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanx for whacking Primetime's latest round of sockpuppetry and trolling. Can I ask for some help? He's trying to save his reputation by attacking me on Commons. See commons:User:HQCentral and commons:User:Temp. Thanx for whatever happens. 68.39.174.238 07:45, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Primetime

Wow, thanks! I never heard of Primetime. Naturally, I filed an RFCU as I would have done to another user I'm watching. (see Cute 1 4 u). However, when I saw WP:'T, I was appalled by the blatant violations this user has committed! Academic honesty is enforced in all high schools and universities, and that user should know better!--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 04:43, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

That Fisherman vandal dude

Hi! Thanks for the Speedy tags on those two nonsense articles by Lord Tortiville II (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), who also twice added nonsense to Back to the Future about time travel by head trauma. The first time for that vandal edit was as Bluechevylover (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) on 12/11. I didn't quite know what to do other than put a test4 on the new name and (after some research) a hoax tag on the new articles. Speedy? Suspected Sock? I haven't done either of those templates to date, so I was nervous about trying that. Thank you for rushing in where I feared to tread! I'll have to memorize your IP now. -- Karen | Talk | contribs 08:06, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove content from Wikipedia, as you did to George Schlatter. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. Lcarsdata 20:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Please Use Edit Summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this: The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature. Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. Lcarsdata 20:45, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Just a note, I now understand your re-reversion, thanks for your explanation. Lcarsdata 20:46, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Sorry. Lcarsdata 20:49, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: {{Coatofarms}}

Hi - I think this has happened in a lot of cases, and I'm going to (hopefully) have Carnildo run Orphanbot on all the untagged images to see which have no licence (as the licence on a coat of arms is dubious at the best of times). Thanks, Martinp23 23:29, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

User:68.39.174.238/Newgatery

Would you mind if this were deleted? Have you seen WP:DENY? User:Zoe|(talk) 23:47, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I understand your reasoning, but how do you reconcile it with DENY? User:Zoe|(talk) 00:02, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Well, I'm not too sure how I feel about DENY myself, so I'm not going to do anything about it, but don't be surprised if somebody doesn't list it for MfD some day. User:Zoe|(talk) 00:11, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Cheers.  :) User:Zoe|(talk) 00:27, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Regarding your edit to Wikipedia:Template messages/Maintenance:

Your recent edit to Wikipedia:Template messages/Maintenance (diff) was reverted by automated bot. You have been identified as using a shared IP address to edit a page that experiences malicious edits by users that continue to edit via shared IP ranges or open proxies. Since these ranges are too large (collateral damage) to be blocked and user's IP addresses are not visible, edits to this page by logged-out editors of server or shared IP ranges and new users are reverted. The changes can be reviewed and restored by established users. // VoABot II 04:09, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Warning removed

If you see a copyright violation, feel free to report it on Wikipedia:Copyright problems. You may also change the text yourself to avoid the violation, rather than removing it entirely. Such balant text removal is often seen as vandalism. Michaelas10 (Talk) 12:26, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Suggestion: use more edit summaries, 68.39.174.238. If you had, this could have headed off this entire situation. "Rem copyvio" would have done it. KillerChihuahua?!? 14:57, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi there. Any chance you could make some specific requests on remaining changes to 2006 Wikipedia CD Selection to get the clean up tag removed? I have had a go but am a bit blind to it now. --BozMo talk 09:50, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

{{copypaste}}**

it just seems like the article has been copied from some Fans website and pasted here , which is against the copyrights conditions , review the edits History to make sure it haven't been copied and pasted and then remove the template {{ copypasted }} from the article , and thanks for co-operation :) , such singers and actors articles usually been copied from somewhere , sorry friend :) Ammar 03:01, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Steve Mazur

Hiya. :) I can completely understand why you'd think all that information was copied and pasted from somewhere, but it was actually all information I got by digging around, asking friends, asking Steve himself (or being around when Steve was asked certain things), etc. Back when Steve was still pretty new to OLP, I was going to make a fansite for him, but didn't end up doing it... so that's why I went and gathered together a lot of that info (just in case you were wondering haha). Sadly, I can't really cite my sources, because it's impossible to cite a conversation you had with a person in real life.--Nikki4982 06:10, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello. Before making potentially controversial edits, such as those you made to Don Blandford, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Otherwise, people might consider your edits to be vandalism. Thank you. --// >|< Shablog 23:29, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding your edit to Microfluidics:

Your recent edit to Microfluidics (diff) was reverted by automated bot. The edit was identified as adding either vandalism, link spam, or test edits to the page. Userbox

The userboxes came from the Wikipedia Apple (or was it Macintosh ... one of the two) and Windows pages, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have a fair use on them, meaning that they couldn't be copyright boxes - I think, however if you would kindly direct me to a simmilar microsoft/mac userbox I'd gladly change. Can you clarify the reason for deleting Image:Erdferkel-drawing.jp]? I wasn't sure what exactly the problem was, and since it's linked to an article, I didn't want to delete it just yet. Let me knoq. See, Pilotguy can remain anonymous too. --66.56.158.36 20:03, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Nope, it's not the same or comparable to the deleted version. The deleted version was three paragraphs long and did not assert the nobility of the article in any meaningful way. -→Buchanan-Hermit™/?! 00:39, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Newgatery page update

Please note that Canderous (talk · contribs) has recently added information on the North Carolina Vandal and Bobby Boulders into your Newgatery page. I'm not sure whether you were ready to document these vandals, but if you are, feel free to expand/modify his writing; if not, you can delete those sections and drop Canderous a note about this. I love you

Thank you for remaining anonymous and showing those irritating template-posters that anonymous IP does not automatically equal vandal. I have been searching for someone like you for ages.

Then again, since you gained notoriety as a vandal-fighter and would therefore be an admin by now if you had an account, I don't know if you're actually a tosser. But for now, I love you. --90.240.34.177 01:28, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

British expression. Equates to 'jerk'. --90.240.34.177 14:39, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

That was a tremendously good question...

I took a look at the page, and I think that while it's a good idea, what we have is a source problem, not a spam problem. Even if we account for socks being multiple users, we're not going to get any more than maybe 10 articles it shows up in. Furthermore, there has to be rationale for blocking, and it can always be unblocked later. However, it gives me an interesting idea, which I will have to think on a bit. MSJapan 17:09, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

As they are amenable, it seems, I added it as a request. MSJapan 22:38, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Purging the cache

Hi! Thanks for giving the PNG crusade bot a star. I'm glad to know someone appreciates my work!

I noticed that you recently made an edit to your userpage with the comment "Added text to force update". Did you know that you can force an update to the page just by adding &action=purge to the end of the URI? Take a look at Wikipedia:Purge, it might be helpful to you in the future. —Remember the dot (t) 04:57, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

That rarely works, especially when Primetime decides to perpetrate some malicious page moves. 68.39.174.238 14:58, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Ah, okay. —Remember the dot (t) 00:56, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey, i noticed you changed many parts of the Electricity Meter article, and I reverted them. I see you are not a vandal, let me know if you would like them reverted. DUBJAY04 00:42, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

That's a big one! (flower, that is)

Thanks for the kind note about hoax-fighting. I like the humor in Kevanbd's hoaxes, and I just wish he devoted his writing skills to fact instead of fiction. He's capable of genuine contributions, but the UBS hoaxes did get a little tedious after a while. Thanks again! Casey Abell 18:09, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

I was going to wait a few days to see if Kevanbd had anything to say, then prod the articles. But if you want to AfD them, I have no objections. I've reviewed Kevanbd's contribs list, and I don't think there are any more hoaxes. But you might want to check yourself. Thanks again for the kind note. Casey Abell 22:28, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
I've now prodded the four articles and warned Kevanbd. I believe this will eliminate all his hoaxes. Casey Abell 15:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
