Kosovo

As a history graduate, I'm very surprised you claim that the 'medieval' Ottoman period has nothing to do with the modern formation of the Republic of Kosovo. Please consult this source which explains the connection. Regards - Ottomanist (talk) 02:24, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:LocationUnitedKingdom 3.png

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:LocationUnitedKingdom 3.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:03, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Generacija bez budućnosti

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Generacija bez budućnosti requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Milosppf (talk) 19:13, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

First of all, when a speedy deletion tag is placed on any article, you are not allowed to remove it, because it takes a debate to decide whether the article is to be deleted or not, on the basis of which it is nominated.

Secondly, I placed the speedy deletion tag on the redirect Generacija bez budućnosti, the band in which Stefanović was playing bass guitar, which is an absolutely inappropriate redirect, and should be removed as a redirect without any basis for its existence in the current form. I am placing the tag for the deletion of the redirect once again. This will not delete the article about Stefanović, if that is your concern, only the redirect Generacija bez budućnosti to the page Borko Stefanović.--Milosppf (talk) 20:22, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Rita Ora

Hello. For Rita Ora's birthplace, Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija was correct if she was born in November. That was the entity which ran 1990-1999. I think it best to avoid intermediate entities, for one it clutters and for another, it politicises an article that doesn't need to go down that path. What I shall do is put back the city/country but re-introduce Kosovo plus template for modern-day reference. Evlekis (Евлекис) (argue) 20:01, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. You'll have a hard task finding MOS material on birthplace standardisation or implementing it. To my knowledge it has been discussed many times but this is seen as an area that shouldn't be set in stone. There are many ways of presenting similar examples and normally it is down to consensus. Consensus in turn widely favours sovereign states as were known at time of subject's birth and you are free to make amendments everywhere (eg. born 1981 in Prague, Czech Republic can be changed to Czechoslovakia) but it isn't deemed wrong by the original editor if he has chosen the modern entity. We just hope an edit war won't break out. Regards. Evlekis (Евлекис) (argue) 20:55, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

You found a good example with the UK of GB & NI vs home nations setting. In the US you'll find that sometimes one is merely given his city and state but not the country. Even in these cases it is not wrong to introduce an article with United Kingdom (not the long form) and you might find it survives. I realise now that there are local de facto MOS settings by regular editors. The difference between the UK (where I believe you and I are both resident) and the territory of the former Yugoslavia is that with the latter, there is much scope for resentment and POV-pushing and in the case of Kosovo, no real universally accepted clarity either. One starts by saying that an individual is born in Skoplje, Kingdom of Yugoslavia (for a person born 1933 for example) and you'll get the narrow-minded IPs trying to amend this to their more favourable Skopje (without -L), in Republic of Macedonia all of which is misleading. Skoplje was how it was known then whilst the whole region was considered part of Serbia, and as for Republic of Macedonia, well this wasn't inaugurated until 1991 (with Macedonia itself coming into being in 1943 or 1944, I forget which). The connection between Rita Ora and Kosovo on the other hand is one of identity and patriotism more than physical association. Obviously I do not know as much as the other editors on the article because her genre of music is not my cup of tea, I listen to classic rock, a world away. This way I cannot remark on her material, her tours and for whom she is opening. Either way, some things do come to my attention - this being an individual from my own region of origin. All I know is that she made a video shoot in Kosovo (because it made local showbiz news) and that she has spoken in interviews of her Albanian identity and her support for Kosovo. In practical senses though, she is a British artist not just for launching her career there but for having lived her whole life there - much like I have despite my parents originating from then-Yugoslavia. Proposed deletion of Tony Walmsley

The article Tony Walmsley has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Hasnt played for or managed a league club

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tony Walmsley requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Prince George of Cambridge

You have no right to declare what Wikipedia stands for when you are clearly ignoring the PROD procedures. The article was already ineligible for proposed deletion as it has previously been kept at AfD, and you are not allowed to add a PROD back after it has been removed, as you did after my removal. If you add it again, I will block you. J Milburn (talk) 19:47, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Oh them 'uns! The fan girls are ganging up on me. I never claimed that I have the right to declare what Wikipedia stands for. Biographies on WP stand for Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, I never wrote and agreed to this, but this is what Biographies on WP stand for. This wasn't my decision. But we're just going to let this be over looked because of fan girls. Pathetic! IJA (talk) 19:52, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Is that name-calling really necessary? Being third in line to the throne is confers notability in and of itself. Even if the monarchy were abolished tomorrow, or there were to be some tragedy, historians would look back on and discuss the significance of Prince George. We have some very strong articles on short-lived members of the Royal Family; take a look at the good article on Prince Alfred of Great Britain, who died when he was two years old. Even if you want to challenge this reading of notability, misusing a prod tag, then edit warring when it is removed in good faith with an at least plausible explanation, is not the way forward. J Milburn (talk) 19:58, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Articles legitimately being resubmitted for AfD within 24 of the previous one aren't rare. And since when has being on the main page made the article immunised from being proposed for AfD? The content is notable for a mention on wikipedia, I do not dispute this. What I dispute is a stand alone article at this stage in his life. There is a big difference between 2 days and 2 years. IJA (talk) 20:03, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
You didn't nominate the article for AfD, you proposed deletion. There's a big difference. In any case, nominating an article for AfD which has already received the very recent scrutiny of an AfD (one in which many people participated, and one which was closed as a speedy keep) and the recent scrutiny of the ITN team (not to mention the DYK team and all the people who have visited the article while it's been on the main page) is not something to be taken lightly- and probably isn't something that should be done by an editor who isn't even clear on our various deletion procedures. J Milburn (talk) 20:18, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes I was proposing it for deletion first. I never claimed to have nominated it for deletion, please feel free to prove me wrong. I don't think it is wise for someone to be an admin if they can't tell the difference between someone proposing an article for deletion and someone nominating an article for deletion. IJA (talk) 20:29, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
To repeat myself- When you tried to defend your actions by claiming that "Articles legitimately being resubmitted for AfD within 24 of the previous one aren't rare", I assumed that you were saying you believed that you had nominated the article for deletion at AfD. Am I instead to assume that you knew you were PRODing the article? If so, you would know that you certainly should not have been doing so, as it had already been kept at AfD, and you would also know that you should not be edit warring to keep the PROD template there after it was removed, as both of these are against policy. I only assumed your ignorance because to do otherwise would be to suggest that you wilfully chose to ignore policy. Which is it, then- do you not understand policy, or are you just wantonly ignoring it? J Milburn (talk) 20:34, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
@ J Milburn My intention was to eventually nominate the AfD after getting some support by PRODing it first, however I should have anticipated the high volume of celebrity mad fan girls who have hijacked the article. My argument was if it is acceptable to nominate an article for deletion within 24 hours of it's previous AfD, why isn't it acceptable to just simply propose it's deletion? Surely PRODing is a lesser action than AfD-ing? At times I do like to Wikipedia:Ignore all rules and this article's existence suggests that other editors like to ignore them. IJA (talk) 21:06, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
It's not acceptable for the reasons I've listed below. I suggest you actually read WP:PROD to avoid misusing it in the future. In addition, I'd also warn you that immature name-calling only demonstrates a WP:NOTHERE attitude that will get you nowhere. — Richard BB 21:10, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
What this ultimately comes down to is the fact that you misused the PROD. It's there for uncontroversial deletions and should only be used if no opposition is expected. One of the central rules of a PROD is that it has not been discussed at an AfD. All of this is plainly written on the WP:PROD article. Adding it once can be an honest blunder, but re-adding it demonstrates a disruptive attitude. — Richard BB 21:07, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Richard is, of course, right. You cannot hide behind IAR when you make a mistake or engage in disruptive editing. You also need to drop the "fan girl" rhetoric: It's sexist, belittling towards editors interested in this topic and dismissive of the historical significance of the prince. Again, I have no idea which policies you believe this article violates. You've made vague gestures towards BLP and the general notability pages, but beyond accusing others of ignoring the policies, you've not really explained why you think the policies are being violated. As another editor has pointed out, the article hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell of being deleted- you're wasting your time and the time of others in pursuing the deletion. Leeds meetup

Hi Ian, I've sort of got myself the job of organising Wikimeets for NW England, and (whilst it's not in the NW) I've decided that it's high time there was one in Leeds too.
So, since you're a local, can you suggest a good venue - ideally not too far from the station, not too busy, and with wi-fi (oh, and decent beer too of course)? Wetherspoons are usually good for this sort of thing. Am I right in thinking there's a Wetherspoons actually in the station? Do you think it would be any good?
Also, what date (preferably a Saturday) do you think would be best - hopefully a day when you can make it? We don't want to clash with any big events or other localish Wiki stuff.
