Canvassing?

You appear to be selectively alerting users of the Mitrovica discussion who've expressed in the past that they are in favor of changing the title. This is referred to as Vote Stacking. --King Öomie 13:02, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Ive asked for their opinions only IJA (talk) 13:10, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
...Selectively targeting users who've all publicly expressed the SAME viewpoint... which is called Vote Stacking. That's what I said, yeah. You don't have to say "So go vote my way" to them for it to be canvassing. Consider this your official warning. --King Öomie 13:37, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Actually not all have expressed the same point of view, some have said it should be called other things and others have said it should remain the same IJA (talk) 16:46, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
I see that now. I apologize for my accusation; apparently AGF was nowhere to be found here. Kudos to you for being so calm. --King Öomie 16:56, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
No problem, however I do admit not asking radical POV Serbs on the issue IJA (talk) 17:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia

Ijanderson977, I don't understand what movie suggestions have to do with Wikipedia. Furthermore, I don't understand how 90% of the time you end up taking the side against the Serbian POV, not only in the case of Kosovo, but Bosnia too. Is there something you have against Serbs? You claim to be neutral in the issue, but somehow always ending up working hard to please Albanians, Bosniaks, etc. You should understand that it's exactly that kind of behavior that keeps the people inhabiting the former Yugoslavia apart - one side always trying to win the approval of anyone from the "West" and the other side (Serbs) feeling alienated from the world because no one ever speaks on their behalf. I am not a Serb, but I understand why they're upset with such behavior - sure they committed many crimes during the 1990s, but so did everyone else. When I have to spend hours looking for Western sources about the Cemerno massacre against Serbs, while I can find tons of literature on every single massacre committed by Serbs, what does that say about Western intentions and viewpoints concerning Serbs? I just don't understand what's motivating you to take the easy way to go about all this. This is not a website for the promotion of what governments and the media (largely supporting their governments' POV) think about Kosovo, Bosnia, etc. We're trying to create an as accurate as possible account of what happened and what is happening - just because the West had their interests in the Balkans and largely had/has control over what was/is written by mainstream media, this encyclopedia must not broadcast their version of history and the present. Also, your sources concerning Kosovska Mitrovica seem to refer to the town as Kosovska Mitrovica too, which makes your argument insignificant. I would suggest seeing things differently, not everything is so black and white. If you'd like to see a movie to better understand that, watch the Bosnian film No Man's Land and the Serbian films The Tour and Knife. --Cinéma C 00:30, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

All Pages Need Numbering

Why do you revert my changes? I simply numbered the table. I reverted it back, please do not undermine neutral POV work without discussing it with me or in the talk page of the article in question first (otherwise it is considered vandalism), thank you for your future discretion. Jenga3 (talk) 01:30, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Russia: Georgia vs. Serbia

The first time Russians have made a coherent statement on what is the difference between Kosovo and Abkhazia/South Ossetia. Vitaly Churkin said that "the strongest argument is the fact that at the time when Kosovo’s authorities made the UDI, nobody was threatening them or putting them in a position where they had to secede. On the contrary, Belgrade even went so far as to refrain from exerting any military or economic pressure on Pristina.". This is probably what they will use at the ICJ too. Also countries that have recognised Abkhazia/South Ossetia but not Kosovo haven't been any more talkative than Russians, the most they have said is that there was no hope for compromise in status negotiations so they just decided to go with independence of Kosovo. Btw states have until 15 Sep to apply for oral arguments at the ICJ (so far I've seen Brazil and Romania making public statements about joining the discussion) and it begins on Dec 1.--Avala (talk) 13:44, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Yeah it would be the best if a lot of countries join the discussion. In the end the ICJ should hopefully bring the compromise solution that should be lasting and acceptable to all. I don't know, the name of the city is Kosovska Mitrovica so I really don't understand why should it be renamed (for an example Columbia (British) or South Wales (New) sound equally unnecessary to me). Btw what is EU-3? I saw it in your post and then in the International recognition of Abkhazia article today but I am not sure what does it represent? Is it the EU Troika (FM, High Representative and EC)? Why did they use the Russian term for that btw?--Avala (talk) 15:36, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Ah OK. I thought it was troika, that represents the European Union in external relations, which is the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Member State holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Secretary-General/High Representative for the common foreign and security policy and the European Commissioner in charge of external relations and European neighbourhood policy. Btw the EU has such internal rules that even Malta can be a power if it wants. All it needs to do is veto everything like a madman. Take a look at Slovenia that has been blocking Croatian EU negotiations (not entry) for a long time now over a few meters of disputed borderline in some bay. And Croatia has an absolute support by Germany which is the first and foremost power of the EU but the EU rules make such absurd situations. Treaty of Lisbon should change that.--Avala (talk) 15:44, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Kosovo timeline

I've asked you for pages and quotes, because the books you mention in the references dont say a word about what you claim in 'Illyrian prehistory' section. Since it is a entirely fictious claim (Illyrian prehistory? are you serious?), I have to report you if you revert my removal again.Alexikoua (talk) 20:12, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

If you think you have a legitimate reason to report me, then please feel free to do so. I will face the consequences for my actions. IJA (talk) 20:33, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Kosovo-note

Regarding your pointless and naive observation about canvassing, Wikipedia:Canvassing: "Under certain conditions it is acceptable to notify other editors of ongoing discussions, but messages that are written to influence the outcome rather than to improve the quality of a discussion compromise the consensus building process and may be considered disruptive.", so your edit is wrong. You can also read this, so you will learn more about that.

Regarding "recognised", well it is recognize to Americans, recognise to a British. So, at the end it is quite clear what it is...

Term "unrecognised" is explicit and pellucid, so it can stay.

And all your problems should be written here, not on my talk page. Also, not now, but before, while we discussed that question. Where were you??

And, at the end, do not change consensus version without discussion on the talk page.

Tadija (talk) 21:41, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

If you dont like consensus, ask for another one. Until then, THIS IS a consensus version. And, "aint" is not quite regarded as good English. Tadija (talk) 21:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Ok, i will. Tadija (talk) 22:08, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

IJA, stop reverting the consensus version. On the Wikipedia consensus page it's written that "At the same time it is normal to invite more people into the discussion, in order to obtain new insights and arguments." The consensus isn't invalid just because Tadija invited people into the discussion in order to obtain new insights and arguments. --Cinéma C 22:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I certainly appreciate your support, Ian, but I wish you weren't so inflammatory. - Canadian Bobby (talk) 00:42, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

3RR

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. Tadija (talk) 21:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Greece

I am really baffled as to why did they choose to slander Papandreou like that? It really is a piece of slander if you know how fondly he speaks of Serbia and how he didn't speak in chosen words about Kosovo like Karamanlis or Bakoyannis did. Saying that Papandreou is pro Kosovo is almost like saying that if Behgjet Pacolli became the Swiss President he would have taken the anti Kosovo attitude or that Hillary Clinton was only hiding her pro Serbian stance when she talked about Kosova. I found a few statements by Papandreou about Kosovo like "its unilateral recognition is a flagrant violation of international law and added that Greece's insistence on international law is a profoundly patriotic stance". Sounds much stronger than what Karamanlis and such have said. Bakoyannis probably said those few things only because she is the family friend of Vuk Jeremic, otherwise she would have stayed silent too. As for the article, we need to trim a few things now, if you think I cut too much bring it back. --Avala (talk) 16:39, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas! Thank for you all the nice wishes. Yes it's true we celebrate Christmas on January 7 indeed. Some Orthodox churches have changed their calendars but Serbian hasn't done so, so we still use the so called old calendar. I hope that the new 2010 will bring us a lot of diplomatic scuffles that we will make edits about, for starters we need to see who wins in PNG, Pacolli or Serbian Embassy in Tokyo :) Then a few months later the ICJ ruling that could really have a strong and wide impact if the judges take their job seriously. It will be a fun and interesting year for sure. I also wish all the best to the United Kingdom and I hope it will join the Schengen area so that we from Serbia can freely travel and visit. Kosovo and the Future Enlargement of the EU

Hi, I have undone your edition at Future Enlargement of the EU because your reasons are not strong: if the EU only recognize Kosovo under UNSCR 1244, why can't Kosovo join the EU under the UNSCR 1244? If the EU doesn't recognize the Republic of Kosovo, how can the Republic of Kosovo join the EU? The truth nowadays is that the EU only see the UNSCR 1244 and doesn't recognize Kosovo as a state (see this site and this), so the Kosovo that can join the EU in the future is not the ROK-one. We can show Kosovo without flag in its relations with the EU, but we can't show a regime that the EU doesn't recognize. You can answer me in my wiki:es user page.

I'm sorry, but it would not be possible for a UN entity to join the EU. The only way Kosovo can join the EU is as Serbia as a whole or as the Republic of Kosovo. Also the EU doesn't recognise Kosovo as a province or as a country. Just to keep in mind the European Parliament recognises Kosovo as independent. IJA (talk) 12:46, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Castle

Thanks for editing the article, but I've undone your edit. There isn't really space to fully explain in an edit summary, so I thought you deserved a fuller explanation. The image you added of Harlech's gatehouse was particularly good, but there isn't much space in the article and realistically adding more creates white space on some screens. The picture immediately above the one you added was chosen as in it you can see several of the elements discussed in the text: a moat, the gatehouse, hoardings etc. Also it has the advantage of being French (although a walled city rather than a castle, but it was a convenient example) and if you take a peek a the talk page you'll see there have been a few accusations of British (specifically English) bias. Thinking about it further, Harlech might be a better example of a developed gatehouse to use further down the article than Beeston Castle's gatehouse, although I do rather like Beeston. Proposed new map style for List of Diplomatic missions by Country articles

Diplomatic missions of Spain

Cities with Singaporean diplomatic missions

As a regular contributor to these articles your views are sought about a new map style for the List of Diplomatic missions by Country articles.

Currently we are using maps which show which countries host a diplomatic mission of a given country (please see as an example the map we use for List of diplomatic missions of Spain). These maps however do not show where the missions are actually located (which may be a few for those countries with large networks of consulates). And the title of this ("Diplomatic missions of Spain") and other similar maps could be more accurate

The map style I propose instead indicates the cities that host a mission of a given country. As an example, I have produced this map for List of diplomatic missions of Singapore.

It is not difficult to make these maps. They are based on the third map below (accessible at [File:Blank map cities shaded.PNG] on Wikipedia Commons), in which I have indicated all the world capitals and other major cities where diplomatic missions are located. The circles representing cities are not visible because they are slightly different shade of grey, but all you have to do is colour each circle with a distinctive colour, and in no time you can have a more accurate and easier to read map.

I think that this approach is more appropriate for this and other categories of articles which concern cities (such as List of national capitals, Lufthansa destinations, List of cities that failed in their bids to host the Olympics etc.), rather than countries.

Please add your views to this new proposal, including whether you like it, see problems, or see ways how it could be improved here

Unbreakable (Michael Jackson song)

Why bother saying "needs more references" if you can't be arsed to look for any? Burden of proof yadda yadda. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 16:20, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Still, I think you shouldn't say "needs more references" unless you can prove that more exist. Otherwise, you're just passing the buck. (Sorry if I was a little snarky, too.) Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 16:26, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

2008 South Ossetia War title

I would like to know your opinion concerning a proposal I made, which I think represents a decent compromise.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 03:09, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

I was hoping you could offer your opinion specifically on whether you think the proposed compromise title is an acceptable alternative.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 17:49, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Personal attack at Talk:Kosovan passport

Your accusation of trolling against another contributor at this article does not belong at this page. If you feel an editor is behaving in the way you described there are remedies available to you. Your comment may have the appearance of being deliberately provocative on an issue that appears settled lately. There is enough sensitivity around this article's subject already without stoking the fires. RashersTierney (talk) 15:12, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Fair play. I just wanted to make other uses aware of what he does to Kosovo related articles. It was not intended as an attack. IJA (talk) 15:15, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
I would strongly advise to withdraw any direct reference to a particular editor at this page. Don't underestimate the ability of other editors to follow editing histories. Your present 'rhetorical' question is unnecessary and provocative. RashersTierney (talk) 15:29, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
I've removed my rhetoric question. Regards IJA (talk) 15:33, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. RashersTierney (talk) 16:07, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
