This article has degenerated in near gibberish

I think someone must be purposefully vandalizing this article although I have no idea why. Many sentences make absolutely no sense. In the list of his works, the Pesaro Altarpiece links to the Wikipedia page of that name which redirects to the Pesaro Madonna by Titian. Either the link in the Bellini article should be changed to be, so to speak, pointless, or the Pesaro Altarpiece page should be retitled Pesaro Madonna. Or something like that. If no one replies with a suggestion I'm coming to remove the link in the Bellini article - in say a week. Fixing external images links

I've noticed 27 broken links leading to gallery.euroweb.hu; I'm going to start replacing those links towards the wga.hu which is their current domain. For instance, http://gallery.euroweb.hu/html/b/bellini/giovanni/1459/011madon.html should be changed to http://www.wga.hu/html/b/bellini/giovanni/1459/011madon.html.

This entry is extremely badly written!

This entry seems to have been translated from some other language by Google or some such software. This is an important artist and this entry needs to be improved. Incorrect painting

This was a few days back, but I noticed that the painting depicting "Christ Blessing" didn't match the link it directed to. The painting is the c. 1500 one while the article link was an earlier one. I already created a draft submitted for approval of the 1500 painting so that I can relink the painting to the correct article.

Death date

The note says: His precise date of death is not recorded, but he was known to have died by 29 November 1516. Yet, we give the precise date of 26 November. Please explain. -- Jack of Oz ^{[pleasantries]} 20:52, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Up until the age of thirty

I removed the sentence "Up until the age of nearly thirty we find in his work a depth of religious feeling and human pathos which is his own." This sentence struck me as odd (who is "we" and why are we saying what they think without citing them?) so I did a little digging and found out that the "up until the age of thirty" part had originally referred to something completely different.

In 2007 someone changed "Up until the age of nearly thirty we find documentary evidence of the two sons having served as their father's assistants in works both at Venice and Padua." to "Up until the age of nearly thirty we find documentary a depth of religious feeling and human pathos which is his own." Eventually someone removed "documentary" but it's otherwise stood unchanged and unreferenced for 16 years.

I have no idea whether the sentence is actually correct or if people just think it's correct now because so many people have referenced wikipedia in the last 16 years. Maybe we do find that depth of religious feeling and human pathos in his work, and maybe that was confined to his work before the age of 30, but as it stands that sentence isn't right. Does anyone have any pre-2007 information on Bellini that could be used to cite any information on those lines? Cauldron bubble (talk) 04:18, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

This is very typical of wp bios of the "2nd division" of Old Masters. As the edit summary says, that edit 2007 adapted the EB 1911 text, from which the first bit is a direct quote - the EB 1911 template should probably be re-added. The 2nd bit came later, I can't work out when or where from. It should probably be dropped, but the original bit kept. But the whole thing needs a proper rewrite, like most of OM bios. I don't actually think we have any identifiable works he did before he was 30. Johnbod (talk) 16:21, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

Yes, we know. And as the cocktail article explains, "Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy..named the drink the Bellini because its unique pink color reminded him of the toga of a saint in a painting by 15th-century Venetian artist Giovanni Bellini." And like everyone else, I came here to find the toga of the saint in Bellini's painting, only to find nothing. Viriditas (talk) 19:18, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
