2nd Destroyer Division edit

During the Battle of Tsushima in 1905 the 2nd Destroyer Division consisted of:

But it could have changed by World War I, anyone know what ships were used? -- Esemono (talk) 20:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

It would have to have changed. The Ikazuchi and the Ikazuma were scrapped before WW1 began. --Cckerberos (talk) 05:13, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Which leaves the Akebono which was Retired 1921-10-18 and Oboro retired 1921-06-21 but that doesn't mean they weren't removed from the Division before that. -- Esemono (talk) 12:01, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
They definitely were. The page on Ikazuchi class destroyers you linked to above notes that the Akebono and the Oboro participated in the Battle of Tsingtao. The Japanese page on the battle says that the 2nd Fleet was the participating naval force. The Japanese page on the 2nd Fleet has its order of battle at the beginning of WW1, which doesn't include the 2nd Destroyer Division.--Cckerberos (talk) 13:59, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK they aren't the ships then but what about the number of ships? The Tsushima Strait order of battle seems to indicate that Destroyer divisions all have four ships. So can I conclude that the 2nd Destroyer Division is made up of four ships? -- Esemono (talk) 23:48, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, that order of battle doesn't agree with the Japanese one which lists the 1st Destroyer Division as being made up of five ships (the four listed in the English one plus the Kasumi). That said, I've found a Japanese source that says that from December 1905 to April 1918 the 2nd Destroyer Division consisted of:
So that should answer your question. --Cckerberos (talk) 04:34, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
