Link counting edit

I've a question about the metrics used for this drive. The instructions provide a pointer to a tool for word counts, and the tallies are indicated to be word counts. But clearly we are interested in the addition of wikilinks, and the barnstar tiers are based on the number of wikilinks. Is there an an automated or semi-automated way of counting up the wikilinks in an article? -- Whpq (talk) 13:51, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think this would encourage overlinking, though. Airplaneman 17:25, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
How so? If the barnstars are being handed out based on number of links, that is the incentive for possibly overlinking. -- Whpq (talk) 17:52, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I changed the awards to be based on word count. Thanks for the quick note! WikiCopterRadioChecklistFormerly AirplanePro 18:51, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Instructions edit

Was there some missed changes after copying the instructions from a copyedit drive? Presumable we should be removing {{wikify}} and {{deadend}} tags and not {{copyedit}} tags. And the "no rubber stamping" section should admonish drive participants to ensure that all formatting changes such as correct heading levels, and HTML removal has been done rather than ensuring spelling and punctuation is correct? -- Whpq (talk) 13:51, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Try to fix these mistakes yourself. BE BOLD! WikiCopterRadioChecklistFormerly AirplanePro 17:22, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Now that I am a little more familiar with the drive, then yes, I'll go ahead and boldly change things. -- Whpq (talk) 17:52, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'll probably work mostly on articles shown by catscan in the "Intelligence" or "Chinese language" categories at first. edit

Just to let everyone know, during the drive I expect to focus on categories I have sources for at hand. I'll probably work mostly on articles shown by catscan in the "Intelligence" or "Chinese language" categories at first. See you on the progress page. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 13:18, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for participating! However, I would like to inform everybody that we are concentrating on clearing out the 2008 articles. If we concentrate our firepower, we can easily destroy the backlog. WikiCopterRadioChecklistFormerly AirplanePro 01:50, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
BTW, when did the title of this section change from "September" to "October"? -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 02:07, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Check the move log. WikiCopterRadioChecklistFormerly AirplanePro 02:11, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

5k articles edit

I know, some of you might turn up an article 10k+ words long (more than 10,000 words). This will count for two, as on the copyediting drive. WikiCopter (radiosortiesimagesshot down) 04:11, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Copyvios edit

So we are trying to clear the backlog. Primarily that is through judicious editting to add wikilinks and clean up the article. I have however come across a copyvio eligible for speedy deletion. Stanley B. Resor set off my copy-paste alarm and sure enough, it was copied from [1]. Are deleted articles counted for the individual stats? The article will certainly show as a reduction. -- Whpq (talk) 18:28, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you put the effort in to wikify the article, yes. Otherwise, no.  ock  23:33, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Doing nothing? edit

And related to the copyvio question, this hasn't happened yet to me but I would be surprised if it doesn't. If an article is perfectly fine and needs no wikification, then does it count when all I did was remove the tag? -- Whpq (talk) 18:28, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to know about this as well. Centro Legal de la Raza needs a short cleanup, but that's it. Is it first-come, first-get? (I've got dibs on this one :) Nolelover 23:37, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Wrong article. This is a better example. Nolelover 23:43, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it would count, because it was just a mistake a previous editor made. Sumsum2010·T·C 01:34, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
While this effort is appreciated, it does not count. However, please remember that this is for the good of the 'pedia, so consider letting the editor who added the tag know. THENEWMONO 00:43, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Page size edit

For those pages when the "Page size" script does not work well, e.g. when there are tables or lists, are we allowed to copy and paste it into a word processor and get the word count from there instead? I just want to clarify. Thanks. – S Masters (talk) 07:05, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that is what we did in the past. I should be more careful which wikiproject I am looking at here. Sorry --Diannaa (Talk) 02:58, 13 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes. THENEWMONO 22:40, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
