Hi Ben. Have you thought about putting this at Wikipedia's sister project Wikibooks instead? Their maths section doesn't have anything on probability yet so this might be a useful addition there. Angela. 07:25, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hi Angela. Thanks for the input! I had thought about that, but I'm not currently able to commit much time to a Wikibooks project. While the prospect of an open content textbook on probability theory is quite exciting, right now I'd rather it be done more carefully and deliberately. I think that a textbook is different from a collection of encyclopedia articles, and that it should be approached in a different manner. When I find out what that is, it might be time to move this to Wikibooks! Ben Cairns 08:27, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)

How about a Wikiproject such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Probability then? It seems a shame to hide this in the user namespace. You might want to talk to the WikiProject Mathematics people. Angela. 17:39, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I had thought that WikiProjects were more about formatting and (in the case of Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics) when to use the <math> tags, but I should do my research. That looks like a good place for it. Thanks again! Ben Cairns 23:07, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)

One thing I'd like to see is a systematic classification of probability distribution, and a template for probability distribution pages, like the ones for countries, and biological species and taxa, to name two important examples. — Miguel 01:46, 2004 Apr 26 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea... perhaps we could start a sub-page such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Probability/Format, with an associated talk page to begin a discussion. For example, what are the community's perceptions of the current format, and could some of the present problems be solved by having a taxonomy of distributions? I haven't looked at the distribution pages in detail yet, so perhaps you could suggest some examples of good formatting and bad? — Ben Cairns 06:27, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)

New Mathematics Wikiportal

I know I've posted this on most of your user talkpages, but I felt it was important to add to the project page as well.

I wanted to point out to you the new Mathematics Wikiportal- more specifically, to the Mathematics Collaboration of the Week page. I'm looking for any math-related stubs or non-existant articles that you would like to see on Wikipedia. Additionally, I wondered if you'd be willing to help out on some of the Collaboration of the Week pages.

I encourage you to vote on the current Collaboration of the Week, because I'm very interested in which articles you think need to be written or added to, and because I understand that I cannot do the enormous amount of work required on some of the Math stubs alone. I'm asking for your help, and also your critiques on the way the portal is set up.
