Templates

A user made a whole bunch of separate templates for the gym leaders; i.e. Template:Hoenn Gym Leaders, Template:Johto Gym Leaders, and Template:Kanto Gym Leaders. I think this just screams REDUNDENCY and needs to be fixed. So far I've created Template:Pokémon Gym Leaders, which rolls all three regions' gym leaders into one. I think this should be implemented. I think this needs to be extended to the Elite Four tempaltes, as well. I need help, however, in implementing all of these templates, as well as categorizing the Gym Leaders into appropriate categoreis (seems to be nonexistent). 04:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

That seems to work better. Erik the Appreciator 17:04, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
I fixed all of the links to point to the list pages, they're where we're poutting this info. --Celestianpower háblame 20:49, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Would be definitely more efficient. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 21:37, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Great Idea! Dee man45 00:37, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
It is truly a great idea as it is more efficient. --Siva1979Talk to me 14:42, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Archiving

The last talk was getting a bit big at 130ish kb long, so I've archived it. A link to prior conversations can be found here. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 17:23, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Eh, I don't think you did it right. The way I do it is to use the "move page" function to preserve the history of that talk page. I reverted and moved the page over and restored the text that was originally on this page. Hbdragon88 20:34, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
That's never how I've done it :P. Never mind... --Celestianpower háblame 20:37, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
There's two ways of doing it. They're both considered fine, but I like the prior version because it's simpler and it doesn't break links. Everyone has signed their messages so it's fine. And I did it perfectly fine. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:39, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it was getting WAY too long to keep track of. Dee man45 00:36, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Lists of Pokémon

It seems as though every trainer page has a huge, ugly list of all the Pokemon they've ever own. This just reeks of fancruft - huge detailed summaries of episodes that I don't believe has little intereste for the general visitor. I attempted to remove the list from the Gary Oak page but was reverted in a rather snide comment:

Revert. Okay. Looks like "" has lost. "Too detail and encyclopedic"? Oxymoron, anyone? Furthermore, this is the standard for PKMN pages. take it up with without project handles these things. Pitifool."

But, you know, instead of edit warring, I'd like to bring it up here and see what the actual consensus is, not what appears to be the de facto standard. (As an interesting note, the reverter hasn't listed him/herself as a pariticpant of the PCP either.) Hbdragon88 05:08, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

OMG! They haven't listed themselves? We must ignore them completely then! What happened to equality? I like the lists, Gary's is not needed, neither is Mewtwo's, but people like Ash and May need them. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 07:09, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm just saying that one shouldn't use the PCP to claim authority if they have not publicly identified themselves as being part of the PCP i.e. signing the list. Hbdragon88 07:53, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Gawd. You're saying that someone can't use Wikipedia policy to support something because they aren't part of the relevant WikiProject? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 15:19, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
No. The smuck didn't bring up any Wikipedia policy, but he implied that the PCP was the one who decided on the policy of lists of Pokemon. I assumed that he was a part of the PPC just doing his job, but he wasn't. And he didn't cite where the PCP got it. Hbdragon88 22:05, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
He's right then. He can say that the PCP decides the style for trainer pages because it's apparent. You don't have to be a member to assert policy, especially if it's common policy. I can say that George Bush decides about America (sure) but I'm not American, should that be denounced? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 22:13, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
No, there are two factors. He should have either provided a specific link to a discussion regarding the so-called policy, or he should have asserted himself as a member. If he was a member I would have dropped it, assuming that he had hammered it out already in some other discussion. If he wasn't, he should have pointed to some policy, which he didn't, which I found strange. Hbdragon88 20:04, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
This is a WikiProject, not a gentleman's club, we don't have special rights for members. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:09, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
When did I ever say it was a gentlemen's club? It was merely my viewpoint. I naturally give more authority, view the person with more "special rights" if they claim to be part of the particular WikiProject. You know what? He should have provided a policy link, loud and clear. But he shouldn't have just said "oh it's the policy" without linking to a policy or actually being part of the WikiProject associated with the topic. Hbdragon88 20:18, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Way to go with that prejudice. You shouldn't treat another user's edits and opinions like a second class citizen because they aren't a member. Did you even ask him to provide a source? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:23, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
I wasn't disparaging him on the sole basis that he wasn't a member. If he had provided a source to the policy, I would have accepted it. But he claimed that it was the policy without providing a source. And if he isn't a member, he doesn't have anything to back his opinion up. That doesn't entitle me to completely ignore it, but that destroys all credibility of his claim that it is the policy. No, I didn't ask, because I decided to ask around here instead of edit warring over it. Hbdragon88 04:06, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
So he was a member and didn't have a source, you wouldn't have bothered about the lack of the source? And generally you should have asked for a source, opposed to dragging it through the mud here. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 11:10, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, until we reach a consensus on this, let's just keep the tables intact. I repeat, until we reach a consensus. Meanwhile, Hbdragon88, I'm putting Brock's Pokémon tables up again. The Raven's Apprentice(Talk) 11:17, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
I thought we settled this old issue long ago. The lists suck. Prosify. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Whoops, sorry. i just noticed HighwayCello's comment. You're right. Sorry again.The Raven's Apprentice(Talk) 10:38, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Actual discussion

This project decides on these sorts of things. So let's stop arguing about irrelevant points and decide.

My thoughts? The character articles are awful. The huge Pokémon tables (complete with lists of every single move each Pokémon has used ever) serve little purpose, and have all the problems of bulleted lists, taken to the extreme.

I feel we need to eliminate the lists entirely and replace them with prose. I'm not sure what form that prose should take, but tables and lists are bad ideas, and make these articles look like bad fansites. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 02:01, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

I was actually against this since the moves were added. The information is quite irrelevant, but some history of the Pokémon they capture would be nice. Also, remember to use the talk pages to link here for discussion on these things. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 05:49, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
I like the tables on the major characters (Team Rocket, Ash etc) but not on people like Gary or Professor Oak, since there isn't enough information on either of their Pokémon. We have lots of information on Ash's and May's so we could easily make the tables worthwhile. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 07:08, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
I disagree. Tables are worse than lists and lists are bad in themselves. Follow the lead of List of Johto Gym Leaders please and prosify this stuff. --Celestianpower háblame 10:00, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Do the rest of us get an opinion on this? I think it'd be even worse in Ash Ketchum, it'd be a train wreck. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 15:02, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Of course you do - I should have made it clearer that it's my opinion. I just think that tables are really ugly. If you think prosifying it all would make it too long and hard to read, perhaps some of it need to be reduced? --Celestianpower háblame 17:53, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, it's been a royally shit day. The stuff that's there now is dire, but some of it's good. I think the section on Charizard is actually good, I think it's copied from the actual article. I'm changing my mind, let's prose it. Ever since someone introduced the wikitables to Team Rocket, all the edits have been new attacks. So yes, I want them prosed - not because I dislike tables, because they promote fanboy edits. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 18:00, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

The Welcome Wurmple has arrived

I've created two templates to help attract more potential editors to join the PCP and inform them of what we do by making to universal notes to be posted on user talk pages.

If you see a new editor contributing to Pokémon articles, you may welcome them to the community, and additionally leave a {{subst:Hcp2}} beneath the welcome.

{{subst:Hcp2}} expands to -

== Pokémanics anon ==

If you are interested in Pokémon articles, you may like to join the Pokémon Collaborative Project, a group of editors who work together to improve Pokémon articles. You can help with our current collaborations (which are Pokémon and Marshtomp) and find out more information on editting articles, as well as discuss Poké-related information. We hope to see you there!

If you either see a new participant to the project, or the editor joins after the first template, you can post {{subst:Hcp}} on their talk page.

{{subst:Hcp}} expands to -

== [[WP:PCP]] ==

Welcome to the Pokémon Collaborative Project, we hope you have a fab time editting Pokémon articles. If you have any questions about the articles, style, content or simply what our favourite Pokémon is (it varies, trust us) leave a message on the project talk page. Cheers and happy editting,

Thoughts? (You need to sign at the end by the way) Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:44, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

A fab time? How gay is that? And there’s only one t in editing. And maybe change “favourite” to “fave” to be dialect-neutral. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 05:20, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Well go change it then... it is a template. By the way, thank you for your homophobic reply. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 07:24, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Homophobic? Perhaps you missed something on my user page:

I’m 23/m, I live in Boston, not sure what else to say about me.

I like, um, men, kitty cats, video games, theatre...

Think of it like nigger/nigga, which you can’t say unless you yourself are black and in the right context. Also, notice that I don’t use gay as a negative adjective, I use it to describe things which actually have, or are likely to be perceived as having, a homosexual flavor, with no comment on whether that’s good or bad. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 21:26, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Really? You seemed to angry to be that way inclined. Never mind. Apologies for the snap, I'm just pissed off. And no offence, you could lighten up a bit. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 08:34, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Too angry..? Is that a bad pun? Anyway, you asked for thoughts, and those were the first 3 things that came to mind: fab sounded gay, editing was misspelled, and favourite was Brit-biased.
Btw, having a girlfriend doesn’t prove you’re neither a girl nor gay... it just means you’re neither or both. See also beard. And who, not whom... -- WikidSmaht (talk) 23:48, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Keep it cool guys... Alvin6226 03:03, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I gave you a barnstar and you never even said thank you. And the only option is to make American biased. Hmph. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 11:11, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I suppose I didn’t think about it, I was going to give myself that star anyway if/when I complete my run through the National Dex. But you’re right, I didn’t. I’m sorry.
Is “fave” not an acceptable slang abbreviation in the U.K.? I suggested it specifically to try to avoid dealing with favourite/favorite. Though it’s my personal feeling that since most Pokémon articles are already in American English, the rest should match for consistency.

Help wanted - Expert on Pokemon characters

I need an expert on Pokemon characters to help on a unrelated for the most part project that has Pokemon characters. I am currently putting together a list of the members of the Wold Newton family, and one source is top-filled with Pokemon characters. Since I know nothing of the subject, I need someone who knows the subject well. If the volunteer would go to Wold Newton characters to add in my sandbox and link the characters on this temporary list to their appropriate articles, I would be grateful. Some of the characters are already on the List of Wold Newton Universe characters, but some are not. I am preparing for a massive addition soon. If you want to know who came up with these family connections, see Of Robots, Music and Pokémon on a Wold Newton site. You might be amused.

Thank you in advance for any help that I get. Also, to whomever helps with this, please stop by my talk page and let me know that you have participated here. Lady Aleena 22:37, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Huh? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 22:43, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Well if you have any questions I guess you could just ask me. ^^; But I don't know how Wold Newton mixes with pokemon. Toastypk 01:22, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Just please go here and link those who are Pokemon characters to their articles. Use that offsite article to help you find those who may have had last names added. I don't think that this is a place to put the entries that I will be making to the official wiki list. If you have any further questions about this, please post them here. Lady Aleena 02:13, 5 May 2006 (UTC) (I have to learn to proofread closer. :) )
There is no one here that will help with this...oh well...no links... Lady Aleena 23:42, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
It’s not that we don’t want to help... I think the issue is that no one here understands this Wold Newton stuff in the least. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 23:48, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Quicky summery of Wold Newton: A meteor landed near Wold Newton, the people nearby got irradiated, they had children with extraordinary gifts (supereor intelligence, strength, etc.). Philip Jose Farmer linked various literary characters together through this incident. Fans extended the families even futher. The List of Wold Newton Universe characters is hopefully going to be a comprehensive listing of all of the characters that PJF and the fans of the Wold Newton books (Tarzan Alive and Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life). On that list will be various characters from all over the media spectrum, which includes Pokemon. While I know OF Pokemon, I have no interest aside from getting the characters linked to the correct articles. So, if you reread my initial message, you will have links to the off-Wiki article that gives a detailed account of how these Pokemon characters joined the Wold Newton universe and the link to my sandbox where I am putting together more entries to the "official" wiki list. If you are an expert on the Pokemon characters, please go to my sandbox and link the characters on the list to their articles.
If I have left you even more confused, please let me know here. Lady Aleena 03:05, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Um, wouldn’t that make all the Wold Newton stuff except the original books fan fiction( and thus unsuitable for Wikipedia)? -- WikidSmaht (talk) 10:36, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I linked the characters. Honestly though....Ash Satoshi Ketchum? Misty Kasumi Elizabeth Williams?? Giovanni Rocketti??? Sabrina Dominique-something Bowman???? The Raven's Apprentice(Talk) 13:44, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
As I said, it’s mostly fan fiction. We should AfD it. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Wanda (Pokémon)

Is this a real character in Emerald? From what it appears, this is a one-shot character, one of the many bit players. Doesn't this article seem ridiculously long for such a small character? Should this be marked for AFD? Hbdragon88 21:29, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

I think it's to do with Pokémon Adventures. I'll check right now actually. If it is I would leave it, it's the best Adventures article we have. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:33, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Disagreed. Yellow (Pokémon) and Green (Pokémon) are far more extensive without going into an exhaustive list of all the Pokémon they've ever had. Silver (Pokémon) is also much better than Wanda; well then again I might be biased because that article does have an image, Silver is the secondary rival in the Metal era, and there is discussion about his possible connection to a conversation in FR/LG Hbdragon88 21:37, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Passing opinions mean nothing. Let it go. Fine not the best article. Don't f*cking care. Is Wanda in the manga or the games? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:41, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
I don't know, that's why I asked here before nominating the article for AFD or turning it into a redirect. Hbdragon88 21:42, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
It looks like a manga character because of all of the Kanto/Johto references. What I'm thinking it could possibly be is a mutilation of Haruka/Crystal but I'ms still not sure. Anyone else? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:44, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
I thought it was agiven. And they haven't replied. While we're shouting at them, User:Taylor28 has ignored me twice when I asked for something. If you're hiring the mafia, send them round there too? ;) Highway Rainbow Sneakers 23:49, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

This is definitely a one-shot character from Emerald that someone has filled out with fanfic. There's no Wanda in Adventures that I know of. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:21, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I give you Ch.219 Whismur and Ch.218 Absol. In the games, I think you have to make her smile... I'm not sure how significant she is but at least there's traces. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 08:39, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Wow, I’m surprised at you guys! Wanda is in Ruby and Sapphire, too. Without even looking at the article, I can tell you the following: She’s Wally’s cousin, the daughter of the aunt and uncle he was sent to live with( so he could recouperate). She’s also the girl who waits in the Rusturf Tunnel for her sweetheart to break through( the one you help with Rock Smash).
OK, now I looked at it. The Blackbelt thing must be derived from his in-game sprite. The rest of it... Well, it’s not from the games, or Adventures, and I can’t identify the source. It could be some other manga, a webcomic or fanfic. I googled “Wanda Faith Bulbasaur” but no significant results... So, here’s a question: have any of you thought of asking the primary contributor on his talk page where the info came from? Oy. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 23:48, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

The primary user (who has so far made some 60+ edits to the Wanda article) has had a dubious history of creating articles for his own characters. He created May Christensen and May Christensen (Pokemon Emerald character), which appeared to be his own creation (the second version said "not to be confused with May"). He also created Sienna Holmes (Pokemon Emerald character). I knocked all three off with {{db-bio}}, one of which he removed. I guessed as much that thi was his own fan creation or extension, but I wanted to check here just in case. Hbdragon88 03:41, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, I asked. Give it two days, then I’ll remove the questionable info and maybe merge it into Wally. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Images

I'm planning on doing a major clean out of all the Pokémon images since we have cleaner version of images that didn't replace the older ones and bizarrely named random things. I was wondering, is renaming an image exactly the same as moving an article? I didn't want to break anything. If anyone wants to help, they're welcome. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:26, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Anyone? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 11:34, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
LOL, I didn’t even know you could rename images. Be sure to re-tag them while you’re at it, the tag most of them use only really applies to images from the pokemon.com website, or,( and this is stretching it) other official sources. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
You can't from I can see. I'm not going to reload 500 images any time soon either. I may request to delete the poorer quality versions though. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 18:18, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Those damn types

It just hit me that it takes forever to link to a Pokémon-type, so it hit me that redirects could make this easier. So generally I've made a lotta redirects. Anyway, I've only done Water and Fire so far, but if you search for the following it'll link you straight to the type -

  • Name-type
  • Name type
  • Name-types
  • Name types
  • Name Pokémon
  • Name type Pokémon
  • Name-type Pokémon
  • Name Pokemon
  • Name type Pokemon
  • Name-type Pokemon

I haven't done version without the acute e. Hopefully, this'll make type linking easier. (Help for like.. the other 15 would be appreciated) Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 22:27, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Are we supposed to be creating redirects for that reason? --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 23:36, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, they look useful to me, as in, if someone waned to know about Fire types, they would type "fire types" into the search box, no? --Celestianpower háblame 23:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
That and you don't have to link Pokémon types#Fire-type|Fire-type, which I make at least one blip in every time. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 23:45, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Point taken. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 00:31, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I dunno. Bypassing redirects where possible is preferred. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 10:36, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Well you can still use for searching. And newbie editors can never realise you need to type out Pokémon types#Fire-type|Fire-type. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 10:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, that’s true. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

You could make templates, like {{Pokémon Fire}} or something. Templates like Template:USA exist for countries (very useful for the ice skater infoboxes), so why not for Pokémon? Hbdragon88 03:33, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

That might be worth exploring. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Future Pokémon template?

This article or section contains information about an upcoming Pokémon.
It may contain information of a speculative nature and the content may change dramatically as more information becomes available.

I'm thinking we should have such a template, seeing as the {{future}} template just doesn't look right in articles for Pokémon such as Manene. Comments? --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 01:22, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Hmm... well there’s already a similar template, {{future game}}. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 10:36, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
We're only going to have a few (if none) new Pokémon being unveiled so I don't see the point. Unless you use them for the Japanese versions? Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 10:58, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
... Do you really need to format the way talk pages and other people's talks are written? Anyway, you have about 5-6 Pokémon unveiled at points in time, and there's little other. And in regards to the future game template, that would be best used for Pokémon game articles. In question, even Japanese-revealed Pokémon are important for "future Pokémon notices". --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 11:04, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Team Rocket needs help!!

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the Team Rocket article has almost no mention of Team Rocket's role in the games. Something needs to be done about it!!! The Raven's Apprentice(Talk) 13:19, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I referred this here, I reccommend that we split Jessie, James and Meowth and the rest of TR into two articles. Thoughts? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 13:32, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Splitting it into two articles sounds like a good idea to me as the subject content is different. --Siva1979Talk to me 14:44, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I agree, take it to a Team Rocket (anime) article, cover all of Team Rocket from the anime there, and only have a small paragraph with a Template:main link in Team Rocket. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Okaaayy, but before we split the article, what I'd like to know is-- What's Senor Celestianpower's opinion? The Raven's Apprentice(Talk) 14:00, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Three proposals

Three proposals, all regarding templates, and I don’t know much about template syntax so someone else would have to handle them... please respond to each individually.
One: Rewrite {{pokeimage}}. The way it’s written now, it only really applies to images from the pokemon.com website, or,( and this is stretching it) other official sources. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure where that template came from, but, yeah, we should do something with that. I dunno what, though. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:01, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Two: Create a new template, maybe explaining to would-be-deleters that fair use images are part of the project, and if one’s not currently included or linked in any articles, that’s likely the result of vandalism, and they should notify us on this page before deleting it. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Good idea. Someone else do this. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:01, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Would someone like to tackle this( I didn’t create the ones above, I mashed together parts of the existing ones)? -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I am impressed. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 15:10, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Hm. Sounds like a plan. I'll get on that ASAP; I'll be adapting {{gymleaderinfobox}}. Someone want to volunteer to replace the old templates in the articles, once I've made the new one? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:01, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to removing the "signature Pokémon" section. The article will cover this, and, by and large, this is bulky, sometimes POV, and often too much to list in an infobox. I will include the "preferred type" section, for the Gym Leaders and Elite Four and such. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:15, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

I too am impressed by this. Great work! --Siva1979Talk to me 06:33, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Any thoughts? Anyone want another sample case? Any suggested fields?- A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:48, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

If it's for the anime, perhaps a box with "Main Pokémon", like Umbreon for Gary and Pikachu for Ash? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 06:58, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
It's for the games, anime, and manga, and anything like that worth mentioning will be mentioned in the intro anyway. It won't apply to too many characters (pretty much just the protagonists). - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:13, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

I've implemented it in Ash Ketchum (replacing that huge, hand-made kitchen sink box) and am working on implementing it in any character I can find. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 20:33, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Tangential anime episode discussion

Should I try basing an anime episode thing of one? Since apparently our episodes are here to say. Oh and linked all the images since they're fair use. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 07:15, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Ugh. I was planning to merge the episodes into a list next time I felt like dealing with that sort of nonsense. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:21, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Bad example, but should we have something like List of Kim Possible episodes? That's the best anime episode list I've even, but I still think the earlier episodes should have their own pages. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 15:06, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Can you explain why they should have their own articles without using the word "deserve"? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:36, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
The earlier articles are worthy (yeah ;) of their own articles (perhaps in a couple big articles) because of their wider appeal (compared to the new ones) and their knock on affects to the games later on. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:03, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be easier to do articles by series, then? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 20:10, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. Should we do it by region, or by title change. Either way, the articles will be grossly unequal. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:14, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Personally, I'm inclined to leave that to whoever does the work, since he/she is clearly going to be more knowledgeable about the anime than I am. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 20:33, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

I'd do it, we'd probably need to have a style guide for them, but I'd be happy to do it. Should we do it by season or area, or just every so-and-so number of episodes? Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:00, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
On second thought, definitely by series or season. (Region-based ordering is sort of non-Pokémon-fan unfriendly.) And any plot summaries over a para per ep are too long. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 21:06, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Pokémon Infoboxes

I was just updating the Poké infobox count on AMIB's Poképage and I noticed we have introduced the new infobox in the 198 articles. (There's irony for you ;).

Articles with old box (if anyone is painfully bored) -

Oh and think we should add some extra article rules which I'll write down soon. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:43, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Knocked off Slowking. One question though. How should the pronounciation part of the infobox be handled? The style guide doesn't specify anything on it. PCEevee 21:40, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
We ditched it. I shall write the new guidelines tomorrow, I'm writing my blog. Thanks, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:56, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm recently doing some tweaking, and I fixed a few of these. It was Onix that I've fixed, and I'm prepared to do more of them. I'll start on Bagon, and I'll add ones I find to the list you provided. I've noticed, also, alot of words are emboldended when they should be italicized. But Infoboxes are something we can do to a later date, our main focus should be to make all Pokémon Articles follow the structure of WP:PAC/S. I've been doing some tweaking of that sort recently......--XenoNeon (converse) 17:18, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Things the Project Should have Taken Care of

  1. The Pokémon Portal says that PCP's current focus articles are Marshtomp and Pokémon Red and Blue; while the Project Page says they're Marshtomp and Pokémon. (I'm going to fix that right now, though.)
  2. How long is a week anyway? Squirtle's been the Selected Pokémon of the Week for about a month now.
  3. The Did You Know section, starting with 'This week all our fun facts', hasn't been updated for ages. So should I remove the week reference or is someone coming up with a new batch of trivia?

Cheers, The Raven's Apprentice (Call) 11:31, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

It's "maintenance" that can be a problem, one of the reasons why I removed "of the week" from "Selected Pokémon of the Week", to which I'll do now again. As for the portal, most of the focus is actually on the article, but leaving some responsibility there should be something. Hm. - Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 13:05, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
It's my fault, apologies. After the pictures got removed from the portal it just started to depress me completely, and I let it go. Frankly, I need as many GFDL/commons images as possible, otherwise I can't do it to what it deserves. Do people want me to start doing it again? (It takes a ton of time to do - I could actually use someone to help) I was doing it for a while, and then the pictures disappeared so I don't know. Thoughts? List of Pokémon characters

Can someone who uses popups or a similar tool please hit this and bypass all the redirects? Lots of character articles have been moved or merged or redirected, and this is pointing to plenty of redirects and such. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 21:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure there is a bot that does this, can we just ask to send it through the article? Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 15:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Butch and Cassidy

Right, as above, Butch and Cassidy have been given their own page. Of course naturally, it's managed to make a complete mess when it comes to links, so I need an admin's help.

  • The original article was at Butch and Cassidy (Pokemon) - without the é
  • Butch and Cassidy originally relinked to Team Rocket
  • I moved Butch and Cassidy (Pokemon) to Butch and Cassidy (Pokémon) - with the é
  • I redirected Butch and Cassidy to Butch and Cassidy (Pokémon)

I need someone to move Butch and Cassidy (Pokémon) to Butch and Cassidy, something only an admin can do. Thank you in advance. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 13:20, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Cel. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 16:47, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

TR split - hang on!

WOAH! I usually don’t respond on this page until I’m ready to reply to everything, but this is fairly urgent. I feel you’re going about this Rocket Project all wrong! And it’s NOT what was proposed. You had proposed spinning off the anime information from the Team Rocket article( well, the specific terminolgy used was “split … into two articles”). This is something else entirely! Devoting Team Rocket to Jessie, James and Meowth!? Deleting all mention of TR in the games and manga? Creating Team Rocket Organization? Giving Butch and Cassidy their own page? I vehemently oppose these actions!( And I realize it’s not all you Highway, there’s an editor I know nothing about doing most of it.) Here’s my proposal:
Move Team Rocket to Team Rocket (anime)( which will require an admin to delete the redirect I foolishly created there). Then cut & paste non-anime info from current and old versions and Team Rocket Organization back into to Team Rocket, including a few paragraphs about the anime in a section with the {{main}} template. Then Merge Butch and Cassidy back into Team Rocket (anime).
At any rate, let’s not make any more changes until we reach a new concensus. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 19:34, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I was trying to work with consensus. Personally, I think Team Rocket should be devoted to JJM, they are the most relevant part of the organization, or Team Rocket anyway. Butch and Cassidy just was a mess, so I asked for it to be fixed, before we did more re-jiggling. Team Rocket Organization is an awful title, and needs cleanup. We should probably merge Giovanni with Team Rocket, or at least give it more coverage. Perhaps, split the anime version of the Giovanni along JJM (in Team Rocket) and the character in the games/manga (it's never been mentioned, but Giovanni led the original Team Rocket attack, and later captured Deoxys in the Seveii Islands.) Thoughts? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 19:49, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
I guess what I’m trying to say is, we should think of “Team Rocket” as a character, a single entity, and write the Team Rocket article like all the other character articles are written: Talk about them in the games, mention the character they inspired in the anime, and then talk about them in the manga.( The only difference being that unlike Blue/Gary Oak, they have the same name in all formats.) Here’s the structure I envision for Team Rocket:

[Intro]
==In the video games==
[There’s a lot too be said here, but not so much as to be too much]
==In the Anime==
Main article: Team Rocket (anime)
[A few paragraphs describing Jessie, James, and Meowth, mentioning their hunting of Pikachu, their boss, and their rivals briefly.]
==In the ''Pokémon Adventures'' manga==
[Again, there is enough, but not too much, to say about TR’s members and their activites, with a subsection for...]
===Neo Team Rocket===
[A bit about NTR, Mask of Ice, etc.]

And we could merge Giovanni, but I personally recommend against it. That article has a lot of biographical info, and all the Kanto Gymleaders have their own articles. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 20:11, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Fine. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:17, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, we should probably let others comment on the issue too... And because I stupidly created that redirect we have to wait for Cp or AMIB to delete it anyway... Let’s brainstorm a bit... The Video games section should address their schemes that the player has to foil... Let’s see... In the first generation that’s Mt. Moon... Celadon... Saffron... and the Sevii Islands. In the 2nd gen, Slowpoke Well, Lake of Rage... what else? Then the manga section... Viridian Forest, Mt. Moon, Vermillion port, Lavender Tower, Saffron siege... did I miss any? Then the team-ups on Cerise in Yellow Caballero... I’m still reading the G/S/C saga( last volumes of it arrived from Singapore today) but there’s always the serebii.net summaries for NTR info. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 20:45, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Giovanni reformed Team Rocket in the Sevii Islands in the Battle Frontier saga I think. He created/caught Deoxys there, that's notable, it was the rebuild of Team Rocket. Don't forget the evil Gym-leaders, Surge, Sabrina, Blaine. There was a TR Grunt in Pokémon Gold, but I don't think it was notable. Would you count the Viridian Gym as an area, it was Giovanni's last stand. And in Pokémon Gold and Silver there was the Radio Tower. Anything else? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:59, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
What do you mean about the grunt? -- WikidSmaht (talk) 04:59, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
It was a minor grunt in Cereluan(sp) City, nothing major. The main areas were Slowpoke Well, Lake of Rage and the Radio Tower. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 08:50, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Besides merging Giovanni (I really think he should be merged, but it's not something so important that it has to be done right now), I favor Wikid's plan. So, uh, what redirects need to be deleted so I can make this happen? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 23:26, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Pleaase delete the redir at Team Rocket (anime) so that Team Rocket can be moved there. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 04:59, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Done. You know, you can always tag that sort of thing with {{db}} and any admin watching CSD will nail it for you. That's a clearcut CSD G6. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:17, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Doi, I am stupid, I should have remembered that. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 08:50, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Considered that, but at the time, I wasn’t sure it qualified as noncontroversial. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 08:59, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

OK, I think I have all the information in the right articles now, but they still desperately need cleanup. At the moment, Team Rocket is not so much an article as an outline with some random info. I’ve made a bunch of lists of confrontation locations, but each item can and should be expanded into a paragraph on what happened there, plus more info on Green and Silver’s background in Adventures, etc.. I will try to work on it when I can, but I’m rather busy IRL and can barely keep up with my watchlist lately. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 11:08, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Almost forgot: I put the Adventures stuff in Team Rocket, but I felt it made more sense to leave the stuff about the anime-based manga in the Team Rocket (anime) article. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 17:07, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
