WP:MESO V1.0

Structure, presentation and content of WP:MESO has been completely overhauled, and a proposed new 'portal-type' structure of linked pages and subpages implemented. Any comments, problems, or requests for changes can be added here.--cjllw | TALK 04:46, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

WP:MESO V2.2 implemented

V2.2 now implemented, main changes being the split of the mainpage into three separate ones, defining the various article to-do active worklists separately rather than together, and reusing Strategy subpg for listing of subprojects and meta-tasks. The layout should now be fairly stable, foreshadowed design changes being:

  • implement use of the righthand-side panels on the Catalogue mainpage (currently planned to be used for various listings of articles etc by class once a rating-system is implemented)
  • complete definition and population of strategy/subprojects table
  • decide on presentation for proposed category scheme and hierarchies at WP:MESO/CAT
  • maybe have some sort of completion/progress log, not a priority at this stage

New Member

I have one question: I can help a little, but I'm unable to spend a lot of time around here. Could I be sort of a part time member? Thanks, Debate dude (talk) 18:35, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

From Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mesoamerica/Strategy

Course-generated new and/or revised entries on the ancient Maya

I'm currently teaching a course at the University of Kansas called "The Ancient Maya" (ANTH 507). As a first assignment, I've asked students in the class to create or edit Wikipedia entries on topics pertaining to Maya studies. The first step of this assignment is for them to identify missing or deficient entries that would benefit from the contribution of a minimum of 1000 words, accompanied by appropriate footnotes and references. Having identified topics, they must add at least 1000 original words (with appropriate citations) to new or existing (but deficient) entries. Topics must receive prior approval from me and contributions will be reviewed by me on the basis of style, accuracy, and utility before they go online. I have directed students to consult the WikiProject Mesoamerica pages for entries that need work, but I'm sure that they would appreciate input and recommendations concerning appropriate strategies. There are 25 students in the class. The final assignments are due on September 22, 2008 and contents should be online by the end of that month. Hoopes (talk) 21:24, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi there Hoopes. That sounds like an excellent scheme, and I'm sure all at WP:MESO would be only too happy to watch out for and help them find their wiki sea-legs. There are rather too many deficient and missing mesoam articles, and input from your class would be a supurb help towards getting at least the major ones up to a reasonable standard.
If you don't mind, I'll crosspost this at the WT:MESO discussion board, as that one is probably better monitored than this pg. Maybe, we could set up a separate project space for this if it would help coordinating. I know there have been similar coordinated student projects around on wiki, will find & review those & see if there are synergies with this proposal. Cheers, --cjllw ʘ TALK 04:01, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Yes, I noticed that this page didn't have much traffic, so posts elsewhere will be a big help. I'd like to know about other similar student projects. Wikipedia provides a great context for students to use the fruits of their own library-based research to improve general knowledge. Mesoamerica is a natural and the WikiProject has been superb. 24.124.90.41 (talk) 14:05, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
No worries, and thx for the kind words. Looking forward to those additions from ur classes, you usually need only dots and rarely a bar to count the number of frequent editors to Mesoamerica pages, so it's always welcome to have input from other interested parties- particularly students at that level.
