Unfortunately List instead of Lists

Be advised: BetacommandBot originally created the Cagegory pages with a different name than the Project. The Template:WPBannerMeta required Category:WikiProject Lists articles. However, neither Category:WikiProject Lists articles by importance nor Category:WikiProject Lists articles by quality exist; instead this project uses Category:List articles by importance and Category:List articles by importance. Once a better option is found, the Assessment page name SHOULD be updated. If anyone wants to test, rename, and redirect, please be aware of that situation and help us. Assessment of importance of Lists of people

How does one gauge the importance of a list of people such as List of people from New Jersey for example, of which some people are very notable and others are not. Do we go by the importance of the subject? in this case the city of New Jersey? I don't understand how to assess these types of articles. -- œ^™ 03:43, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Importance

I am trying to figure out the criteria for the importance scale. Taking as an example the List of City University of New York institutions which is top importance (=Subject is extremely important, even crucial, to its specific field. Reserved for subjects that have achieved international notability within their field.). I believe in this case the "field" = City University of New York. Then I agree with the first part of the criterion, that a list of institutions is crucial for a university. However I have a problem with the second part, how would the list "have achieved international notability within" the University of New York?

Generally I don't think it makes much sense having a vague criterion like this. I can always find a tiny field in which any list will be super important. I understand that basing the importance on the WikiProject's topic (lists) does not really work either as most/all lists would be of low importance in this case. Why not get rid of this importance scale for WikiProject Lists altogether (if possible)? I don't see in which way it would be useful. bamse (talk) 09:59, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
