Child projects edit

Now then, I've a question if there is a need to tag the child projects along with the main projects as well? For instance, a town in West Bengal can be classed under states as well as under bengal and cities. How does this go ahead with? There needs to be a clear understanding on this before the activity goes any further. Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 05:07, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

For a town, then it should be cities and bengal (not states). For the West Bengal article itself, it should be states and bengal.

So to clarify:

Participants, (new) members of the assessment dept. should think of the banner as having the following components in relation to Geography: MAIN-geography, MAIN-maps, MAIN-cities, SUBMAIN-chennai, MAIN-districts, MAIN-states, SUBMAIN-andhra, SUBMAIN-bengal...SUBMAIN-tamilnadu. (See the taskforces section in your worklist instructions to make sense of this.)
  • An article should only fall under one of MAIN-cities, MAIN-states, or MAIN-districts, if at all - i.e. not more than 1 of the 3 for any given article. However, submain states are not included in this. For example; an article can be MAIN-cities and SUBMAIN-andhra, or MAIN-districts and SUBMAIN-tamilnadu, but it should not be MAIN-cities and MAIN-districts. Redirects edit

There are some redirect pages tagged as WP India. Should we remove the WP India tag from these pages, as the actual article would be tagged and assessed anyway? --Madhu (talk) 15:28, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thats correct. Mspraveen (talk) 15:29, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. And disambiguation pages? --Madhu (talk) 15:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
You would tag them class=dab. disambiguation pages are non-article pages. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 15:52, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks to both of you! --Madhu (talk) 16:03, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Auto parameter edit

If you notice a auto=yes , remove the auto=yes during the assessment. The parameter is added by bots for later human review. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 19:15, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Just when I was wondering about this parameter, you cleared the clouds up. Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 13:39, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I assume this applies only for auto=yes flags for India related banners.--Regents Park (roll amongst the roses) 14:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

If an auto=yes tag is there, it means it was assessed by a bot. You need to remove the auto=yes for ANY article that you manually assess. Ncmvocalist (talk) 14:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Workgroups/Taskforces (WGs) edit

I notice that some articles have workgroup parameters in the India project tag. For example, Saarang has a flag turned on that says that it is maintained by the Tamil Nadu Workgroup. Do we need to bother with this? If yes, I must admit I'm going to be extremely confused in many cases!--Regents Park (roll amongst the roses) 14:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think in this case, auto=yes should be removed. Because, Tamil Nadu workgroup is within WPIndia. However, banners of biography portal or film portal or similar groups outside WPIndia should not be changed (as this is assessment drive for WP India) unless you are assessing for those groups too. GDibyendu (talk) 14:50, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
You generally do need to have a look and do that in your assessment to be complete, but if you get confused, you can always ask here. It's a good learning experience that way too. ;) Ncmvocalist (talk) 14:57, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
So, would Saamna be tagged as in the Maharashtra workgroup?--Regents Park (roll amongst the roses) 15:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes as it is published in Marathi only. It can be added to politics workgroup also as it is published by Shiv Sena. GDibyendu (talk) 15:22, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Cheers - good work. Ncmvocalist (talk) 16:17, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Distinguished Service Order edit

I came across this article. This is not related to India, it seems, although an award of the same name is there in indian army. Have removed the Indian category from the article. Also, removed WP India from the talk page. Please see if it's ok. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 11:04, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Its not clear how the bot thought this is related to India. I have also removed banner from some pages like: Grameen Bank (though it is a Gandhi Peace Prize recipient: category could be the reason why bot marked it: now I understand why WP discourages creating categories of award recipients) and Hamid Sayani (not directly linked with India: at least the page does not say that he was born here or so) and another page which was about an UK singer of Indian descent (he was categorized as an Indian Singer or similar). Tagging images edit

Some images have been tagged with WP India as well. See here for example. I assume I should remove the WP India tag, can someone confirm? --Madhu (talk) 14:33, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, the page is about image of Boys Scout India, so let WP India be there. It should be image-class. GDibyendu (talk) 14:51, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. --Madhu (talk) 15:01, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

New class? edit

Some of you might have noticed this discussion about introducing a new C class rating between Start and B. Maybe we can put our assessment drive on hold for a few days until the poll closes? We can avoid reassessment of several of our articles that way. Suggestions, please. --Madhu (talk) 10:54, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • That won't be necessary. A few WikiProjects have indicated they will not be introducing or adopting any of the newly proposed class ratings. Although we have not ruled it out like them just yet, we definitely won't be introducing or adopting any new class ratings until next year - the 2009 drive will cater for any new classes introduced. Therefore, this drive is unaffected by the conclusion of that poll. Ncmvocalist (talk) 11:24, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Help edit

I have been held up with work lately and I don't think I'd be able to complete the assessment range I have taken up (3001 - 3200). I have done around 100 of them, can someone please take up the rest? The list is here. --Madhu (talk) 17:01, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'll take it up once my current range is done (unless somebody else takes it by then). --GDibyendu (talk) 17:12, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks!! --Madhu (talk) 15:09, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
