Statistics

We need a statistics box showing articles by class and priority. --Meno25 02:03, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

I added the box but it will need continuous updating. --Meno25 20:50, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Is it possible to make a bot to automatically update the article statistics every once in a while?
--Yitzhak1995 02:52, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

There is currently a bot doing the job which is Mathbot operated by Oleg Alexandrovat at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Egypt articles by quality statistics. All what we have to do is to copy the code of the previous page and paste it here. The statistics are updated every day at about 11:30 AM Cairo Local Time. --Meno25 03:11, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Simply marvelous! --Yitzhak1995 04:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Done. I transcluded the statistics box onto the page which means that the box will be updated automatically from now on without any manual edits. --Meno25 19:44, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Importance scale

The importance scale is not showing up on the banner. Can someone fix this? I don't know how. Egyegy

What do you mean? I checked it and it is fine. Only the numbers are not updated. --Meno25 03:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm guessing that he's talking about the banner, which lists the quality (fa, A, ga, etc.) but doesn't list the importance (top, high, mid, low, none). Some banners that I've seen list both and it might be helpful to add it in.
--Yitzhak1995 04:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I meant. See like the ethnic group banner at Egyptians has a place where you can list importance and it would show up on the banner. It would be nice to have so that Top and High importance articles can be spotted easily and would be the priority. Egyegy 08:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Done. Badbilltucker did the job. --Meno25 22:14, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Egyegy 23:51, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Help on article

Mahmoud Shokry, first Egyptian chief of staff of the Egyptian Army --- can anyone more knowledgeable here help w/this article? Clearly notable, but there's an open AfD on it and it needs more sources. Could only find one source so far, which I added already. (I am having trouble finding anything in Arabic either because the results are swamped with other people of the same name. The fact that I'm awful at Arabic doesn't help either). Thanks! cab 03:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

The result of the nomination was withdrawn by nominator. --Meno25 04:02, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Scope

There appears to be some imprecise wording in the "Scope" section of WikiProject Egypt. Should our scope be: A) All articles in Category:Egypt OR B) All articles in Category:Egypt that are not about Ancient Egypt or Ancient Egyptian religion?

(I personally think the second makes more sense. It seems that at present, however, we are covering everything in Category:Egypt while focusing on what isn't covered by the other two.)

--Yitzhak1995 22:21, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

A more specific issue I'm bumping into is whether we include articles that have a broad Middle East context, or they need some special connection to Egypt, or must be specifically Egyptian. For example, much of Egyptian cuisine, such as falafel and baklava, is common across the Arab East. Any thoughts on these two issues?
--Yitzhak1995 08:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
I think we should try to stay within an Egypt-sope as much as possible. In this case, falafel should definitely be included. Baklava maybe or maybe not, I'm not sure. I don't think it's that popular in Egypt. The interesting thing is that there is similar pastry called Basboussa which is a much more popular Egyptian desert and is more specific to Egypt. We don't have an article on it yet. Egyegy 19:27, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
PS: Someone recently created Egyptian cuisine stub. Egyegy 19:41, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Although WikiProject Ancient Egypt started on August 24, 2004 and WikiProject Egyptian Religion started on July 26, 2006, yet both projects are daughter projects of WikiProject Egypt in other words every article within the scope of any project of the two is within the scope of WikiProject Egypt but not vice versa. However, since our project started only on December 26, 2006, so, we should concentrate as a start on the articles not covered by the other two projects. --Meno25 19:57, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

I think Meno put it really well here. I would add that any major articles about ancient Egypt that cover broad topics should fall within this project's immediate scope. This includes e.g. Ancient Egypt, Pyramids of Giza, Egyptian language, though there is no rush to include specialized articles or esoteric topics like Ankh-af-na-khonsu, the Four sons of Horus or KV20.
