Belarus discussion from Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Archive

Description
This project would aim to clean up and collect articles related to Belarus, with a minimum of conflict, like the stated goals at the Law Enforcement WikiProject. This is a thorny area, but there are projects for hotspots like Sudan and Iraq, so we can accomplish this if there are dedicated folks of all stripes willing to work together.

Tagging articles

Other than the items I have listed on the front, I have no idea what the quality level is for most articles. Stub should be very obvious, since they will be tagged with the stub-notice. I am not sure what else can be done for right now, but I thank all that have come aboard. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:39, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Indiscriminate tagging

Please do not tag articles that have nothing to do with Belarus as such. Several purely Russian articles on my watchlist have been tagged. This projectcruft is pointless, especially as you clearly lack the rescources to do anything with these articles. Johnbod 04:40, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

As I said before, everything that is in Category:Belarus is getting touched by the template in a automatic process. I am not sure how long it will take before it finishes, but I kindly ask for the bot to finish before we figure out what to keep and what to remove. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:41, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I see it is Category:East Slavic history causing the trouble. But please do remove the tag from irrelevant articles, which will be most of that category. Thanks. Johnbod 04:46, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
That will work. Since Belarusian history is connected with Russian history to a major degree, those articles are "already covered" by some of our members. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:47, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Starting the process to remove some now. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:50, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
I can see some are gone, but plenty more should go. 13:35, 3 November 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnbod (talkcontribs)

And that is being worked upon now. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Why Crown Heights riot page?

It seems to be a very remote connection between Belarus and the Crown Heights riot. The driver of the car was a member of Chabad, and Chabad's first leader (several hundred years ago) was from Belarus.... Edstat 11:50, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I dealt with the same question on my talk page. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:30, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello WikiProject Belarus. Meaning no disrespect just wondered why your tag had shown up on the Talk:Crown Heights, Brooklyn page and if it had anything to do with this article Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Russel Timoshenko that seems to have been recreated without any authority to do so being recorded? —Preceding unsigned comment added by CyntWorkStuff (talkcontribs) 22:37, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

No, it hasn't. It has to deal with the category of Jewish settlements. I removed the tag; we had nothing do with the AFD you mentioned. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 00:28, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

User box

No WikiProject is complete without it's own user box.

. So here it is. {{User WP Belarus}} Bogdan 18:42, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I would suggest to change the image from the coat of arms to the map. I believe it will be more neutral that way. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:53, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Alrighty...which map would you prefer,   or  ? Or do you have your own that you would like on there? Regards, Bogdan 18:59, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
The blue one. It is the same one we use for the project banner. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:08, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Done. Bogdan 19:11, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Perfect. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:18, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

not to be a curmudgeon...

If we're wanting to keep it neutral, shouldn't red and green be avoided, like the green for the background shading? Chris 19:24, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

It is just the combo of red and green people do not like, just like a combo of red and white is not good. Green, all by itself, is no big deal. But I can toy around with the box more. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:29, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
My apologies if I'm offending anyone, but when I think of Belarus, green comes to mind. Just like when I think Ukraine, yellow comes to mind...etc. To me it seems like red and white is almost out of the question, that's like painting the Ukrainian Userbox orange...
P.S. What's the problem with green? Bogdan 19:39, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
There is no problem with green alone. It is just green with red is not good. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:46, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Portal

Can we include the portal in the project tag, as other Projects do? Chris 19:26, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:30, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Also, all project members are welcome to work on the Portal itself. It is pretty dormant, so we can fix it up so we can hopefully get the portal to Featured status. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 21:52, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

... looks good? Bogdan 02:56, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah. Now, we should work on it now, but I will need some time to see what sections should be made. We should look at the "featured portals" for nations and see what they did. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Fodient

Why does this Fodient retard keep adding a dead multiply-deleted link? Chris 03:32, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't know, I presume that this police officer was a relative of his, or else he wouldn't be so committed. Take a look at his edit history, it seems like all his edits are dedicated to this person. But quite frankly, I cannot understand why Fodient doesn't get the point. Regards, Bogdan що? 03:41, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I remember reading the story of the fallen police officer, but I do not know the reason why the user is doing it. I would even go as far as suggesting that we should not go to DRV about this, since there was no flaw in the deletion process. I also notified the ANI that we were contacted about remaking the article and that we have rejected those offers. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:43, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

FAR for Belarusian Republican Youth Union

Belarusian Republican Youth Union has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. – Ilse@ 01:24, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

FAR was closed by another user, but I still fixed most of the objections there. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 06:07, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Chernobyl talk

May I enquire as to why the Talk:Chernobyl page has been incorporated within this project? The Chernobyl article itself does not seem to be incorporated, and the city has got nothing to do with Belarus whatsoever: it does not have bonds with the Chernobyl nuclear disaster except for the name of the nuclear power station (situated 22 kilometers away from the city) and the fact that it happened in the raion of which Chernobyl was the capital. The Chernobyl article is merely about the city in the Ukraine on which Belarus has got no options. Eddyspeeder (talk) 02:26, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Removed tag. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 06:07, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
