Articles for the Wikipedia 1.0 Project edit

Hi, I'm a member of the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing using these criteria, and we are looking for A-Class and good B-Class articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Can you recommend any suitable articles on ancient Egypt? I don't know if you've had any FAs, but they would be suitable as well. Please post your suggestions here. Cheers!--Shanel 23:01, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

One place to start would be the articles listed in the Template "Notable Ancient Egyptians" (it's at the bottom of our so far only FA, Hatshepsut); I looked at half a dozen of these & believe that they all are either A-Class or B-Class. And I believe there are others not on that list. (Updating myself: I looked at a few more, & there are a few that are not that good, including at least one stub. The better ones tend to be Pharaohs of the 18th dynasty, & the worse from the Middle Kingdom not too surprising: it's not as well documented as the 18th dynasty. I guess we have some more items for our To Do list.) -- llywrch 01:06, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Egyptian pyramids. Mummy. Alexandria, Battle of Kadesh, maybe. –Hajor 23:45, 28 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
What about getting these articles up to the correct standard the first Egyptology Collaboration of the Week? Markh 15:06, 30 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Update: I've just discovered that the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team is using a bot to collect all of the article ratings each WikiProject has made for their articles. I've been very busy in the last few months with Ethiopia-related articles, but is there anyone here with the time & drive to follow the steps at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Using the bot then start the work needed to feed articles about Ancient Egypt into this effort? This work can only help Wikipedia reach its goals -- as well as help this WikiProject. -- llywrch 00:56, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I gladly would, but despite reading extensivly, I just don't understand how this works. Is there a "bot using for dummies" or ought I to leave this to the experts? Thanatosimii 01:19, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Check that-- I might just be understanding this.... Let me get back to you, unless someone else volunteers first, of course.Thanatosimii 01:31, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, under "Setting up for the bot", I did all of #1, and Category:Ancient Egypt articles by quality, as well as Category:Ancient Egypt articles by importance, are all set up. However, I don't understand how to make the template. Not one iota, not one bit whatsoever. That's the part which wasn't making any sense beforehand. So if someone else knows how to make templates work, that's the step to begin with. Thanatosimii 02:24, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I would be glad to help out. How far have you got, and what further needs to be done ? Markh 09:25, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think we can use the Banner I created (see below) as the basis for this template. Shall I butcher (sorry, adapt that). This way we can start to claim all of the articles within the scope of the project as our own (I just add the banner to the templates and meta-data-type pages).Markh 09:29, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Can someone have a look at what I have done – ({{AncientEgyptBanner}}? I will tag an article or 2, just to see what they look like. Markh 10:27, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I tagged Ahmose I (since that article will always be my pride and joy) and it all looked right, except that the text is acting a little screwy under the assesment part. Rather than being the entire line long, there's some sort of line break at the halfway point. Otherwise, it looks good.Thanatosimii 16:35, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Now, you added your tags to Amenhotep I before the bot ran last night, didn't you? Why didn't the bot work then? There isn't a listing in here, and so I assume somthing is wrong.Thanatosimii 16:43, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Only did it this afternoon (London-time), so not expecting anything until tomorrow (21st Aug). Will look at the other article, see what is up. Cheers Markh 17:10, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, sorry, I got confused. Also, I took a screenshot, which you can get at http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a185/Thanatosimii/TagScreenshot.jpg , which would show you precicely what I am seeing, if that helps.Thanatosimii 17:23, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
None of the articles are showing up in their categories yet (this is obviously my fault), but I will try and fix once I have sorted out the above. Markh 17:28, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not to dump another problem on you, but when I put a Top level tag on Hatshepsut, it came out with an extra text box saying, "This article is listed on this Project's core biographies page." with a link to a biography wikiproject page. This is probably residual code from the stuff you integrated from their own tag. Thanatosimii 22:10, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
::Doesn't look like the overnight bot worked – I will have a look and see what I have done wrong. On this other matter, do we need a list of the top articles ? Or would slight rewording of the section do ? Markh 11:02, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that we need anything fancy like a list at this point, as long as it's possible to do it at a later date should we ever desire. It'd just be nice to not redirect the top artcles into wikiproject:biography Thanatosimii 14:51, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi I have fixed the above, just something left behind. I think I have also fixed the template and category issues. Will check again after tonite's run. All that is necessary now is for someone to tag every single article with Ancient Egypt / Egyptology! Markh 20:42, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hurrah, seems to have worked this time. 56 articles so far! Markh 07:56, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I forgot.. where does one find that list? Thanatosimii 14:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

If noone objects, I think further talk concerning this project ought to be directed into Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ancient Egypt/Assessment.Thanatosimii 01:58, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
