Hi, please alter the text, and say that Kolkata was formerly known as Calcutta. The English name is obviously much better know in the English speaking world and also in most other European and American countries, and many people will be puzzled by this. I know articles on Indian cities are named this way by consensus (cf. Chennai not Madras, Mumpai not Bombay), but let's at least mention the English name. - Just to note that I sought this page out in order to make the same point. Calcutta at least arguably fits the Naming Conventions better, and, while I accept the reasons for naming it as it is, the most common English name (according to the ever-unreliable Google Test, anyway) should at least be mentioned. See also the discussion on the Kolkata talk page, which seems to have broadly reached the same conclusion. TSP 15:03, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

- Kids are more than welcome to edit it - just don't vandalize the front page. Fortunately, that's not something anyone has to worry about anymore.
