Push for OpenID

edit

OpenID support would be wonderful, and could potentially encourage more user registration (a good thing!). OpenID has been around for a while and has gained popularity. Step one is to publicize the idea and cheer it on. To start off, I suggest that we

  • Create a userbox stating a user's support of OpenID on the English Wikipedia (and other WikiMedia projects)
  • Seek out the help of active WikiProjects related to Wikipedia's ease of use
  • Sell the idea on this proposal page, clearly outlining all potential benefits. Are there any downsides to using OpenID?

If people aren't excited about it, it probably won't happen. But if we hype it up a bit, and make a push for it, I really don't see why it couldn't or wouldn't be done. ...but what do you think? ~B Fizz (talk) 00:23, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have created a persuasive explanation (opinion) of why we should use OpenID. Read it at User:B Fizz/OpenID. ...but what do you think? ~BFizz 10:14, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

OpenID for Wikipedia

edit

OpenID has really taken off on several websites, especially including those with open community ideals similar to Wikipedia. The OpenID extension is stable, why not use it? ...but what do you think? ~BFizz 10:43, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Someone could post on the wikitech-l mailing list and ask about the technical feasibility. --Apoc2400 (talk) 19:55, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Current Status?

edit

What is the current status of the proposal? Is there any chance OpenID will make it to user space any time soon?-----<(kaimartin)>--- (talk) 17:18, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Bump? I mean, it has been more than 2 years since last update. Could somebody with sufficient info update the main page? Baldurmen (talk) 20:31, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
