Streak awards edit

For the last backlog drive, there was a reduction in reviews in the second half of the drive. Maybe we can encourage a more steady number of reviews, by re-introducing the User:Insertcleverphrasehere/NPP_awards#Streak_Awards to this backlog drive. I'm fine with doing this calculation every week, during the drive. We can ignore the last 3 days of the month for this. Thoughts? -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:37, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like a good idea! (t · c) buidhe 06:38, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree - I'm wondering if Tol can do something with the bot to help with the calculations. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:23, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

On Consistency edit

Buidhe MPGuy2824 My one issue with this page, is the consistency of the tables, I'm just thinking putting the point based awards as a table too for consistency. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 20:43, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Try it out. If it doesn't look good we can un-table the streak awards. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 01:24, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I’ll do that when I get time. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:10, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Did it. Looks fine to me. The table header text could be better. Please change if you think of better terms. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:55, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Streak awards - recalibrate? edit

When the streak awards were given in 2018, they included redirect reviews too. We are now counting only article reviews. I just ran this query for who would get the streak awards, if they were awarded for the July backlog drive. Nobody touched 100. Maybe we should re-calibrate the streak awards, by eliminating the Unnecessarily Complicated Gears and setting the minimum to 150 for the Planetary Gear? -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:00, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

I would support this, and also adding an award for 5 article streak. (t · c) buidhe 16:30, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I also support this and Buidhe’s suggestion Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 17:11, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
If we are adding another tier, then we can just move the various awards and continue with the Unnecessarily Complicated Gears (at 150). Also, i'm not sure of the lower tier being 5. Maybe we can encourage a one-a-day reviewer and keep it at 7 per week (and moving the next one to 15)? (BTW, for the last drive, we would have had 38 streak awards with the lower tier at 5, and 25 with the tier at 7). -MPGuy2824 (talk) 01:56, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
That would also be reasonable. (t · c) buidhe 02:36, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I was actually thinking of doing that this morning. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 09:04, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Replace award for the 200 article level edit

There was a participant last time, asking for a different image for the 200 article level. Zippybonzo, I think you pulled your request from WP:RB, given that the drive got over before anyone picked it up. Can we just replace it with the image (The NPP Special Edition Barnstar) shown on the right? It is not used for the yearly NPP Awards. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 09:59, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@MPGuy2824, I have no objections to it. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 12:33, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Move this talk page edit

I propose that we move (and redirect) this talk page to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Backlog drives. That way, general coordination about backlog drives can be conducted there, and the talk page of the current BD can be kept mainly for participants to ask questions. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:46, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

This is a very specific talk page, so I fully Support. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 16:00, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  Done -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:37, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

List of tasks edit

I've added list of tasks that I've gleaned from previous drives' talk pages, and added it at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives#Instructions for coordinators. Please add any missing steps. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:40, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Streak awards - week definition edit

@Zippybonzo and Buidhe: according to User:TolBot/Task_8/Drives/2022-10_New_Page_Patrol/config.json the weeks are day1-8, day9-15, day16-22 and day23-31. It seems a bit counter-intuitive to me. Should we change it to 1-7, 8-14, 15-21, 22-28 and ignore the last 3 days? -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:01, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@MPGuy2824, the last 3 days could be a “week” of their own. Or we could just leave it as is. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 05:43, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
29-31 as a week of their own would make it tough to hit a streak, since the minimum of all the week are counted. The only problem with leaving it as it is, is that it is hard to explain to participants. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:46, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Maybe we could do 1-7, 8-14, 15-21, and 22-31 since there is expected to be lower numbers in the last days of the drive. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:46, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'd support this. (t · c) buidhe 05:48, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Zippy, if this is fine with you too, i can ask Tol to make the necessary changes. The advantage of this scheme is that it doesn't matter how long the month is, for further drives. The last week will always be a catch-all. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:50, 28 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've requested the changes on Tol's talk page. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:18, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
And Tol has done the changes required. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:48, 30 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Great! (t · c) buidhe 02:49, 30 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, but what about streak awards? edit

Congratulations fellow NPP for doing unprecedented things and pushing things down close to zero page to be reviewed. But what about the streak awards? From this point, it is almost impossible to have those 100 streak by next week. Is it possible to reduce the streak requirements for the final week? ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 15:34, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

There are always new articles being created, so the backlog is never 0 for long. Also the last "week" is actually 10 days (22nd to 31st), so it will be a bit easier. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:59, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have to agree. The backlog start to grew again! ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 03:00, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've pretty much accepted that I won't be able to get the 150 a week streak award. It would have been to keep the streak up but I'm just happy the backlog has shrank to be so small. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:45, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Award calculations for the October drive edit

@Zippybonzo: I assume you are ok with doing the calculations for this drive too. I can help with awarding the barnstars after that, if you want. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:18, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@MPGuy2824, I’ll do that in a few hours, but hopefully tolbot will have made some of the things easier to count. I’m happy to hand them out as well, if you could create a template for them that makes life quick, because last time I personalised them too much. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:43, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've told the participants that they have until end of day today to submit their twinkle logs, so wait till tomorrow to start the calculations. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:46, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Personalization of awards: Your text from last time: "This award is given to <User> for XXX reviews and YY re-reviews in the July NPP backlog reduction drive. Thank you for your contributions." Maybe you can change that to "This award is given to {{BASEPAGENAME}} for collecting more than XXX points doing reviews and re-reviews, in the October NPP backlog reduction drive. Thank you for your contributions." Here XXX is one of the award tiers and not their exact point score. The streak awards are already templatized in Template:NPP-Drive Streak Award. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:57, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
@MPGuy2824 @Buidhe - Are we going on the re-reviews get a point principle for this drive, because it's not that clear. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 18:32, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
The awards section does say "You can earn one point either by reviewing an article or re-reviewing an article." So, yes we need to add the re-review points to get the total. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:04, 30 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes that's how it was done at the last drive. (t · c) buidhe 05:30, 30 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Good, I'm just doing the calculations now and then I will get to awarding the barnstars. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 08:04, 30 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Potential redirect drive edit

A while ago, there was some talk of a redirect drive - is this something that may be happening anytime soon due to the large amount of unreviewed redirects? – Meena • 14:09, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Meena, I suggest that you start a thread at WT:NPPR to gauge enthusiasm. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:04, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
