After Zoom edit

I wrote to a friend about the non-Zoom part of the meeting and perhaps my summary of a couple points will be useful to others:

after we disconnected from Zoom we became somewhat less formal. We had some beginners who dared to ask beginner questions like, how do bad edits go away, and what is Wikidata? They got good answers. More importantly, they learned that they don't have to be shy about showing their ignorance. They are surrounded by people who know this business and hope for good contributions from those who still see it as mysterious. There were also people who had drifted away during the plague and now wanted to resume participation.
We discussed mapping and Wikidata. I showed WkiShootMe, and several of us described the ways in which the locations can go wrong. This brought me to mention some erroneously named parks in San Diego, California that I had found while looking for the Narrows Botanical Gardens in Bay Ridge. What? These Brooklyn people had never heard of the place. Maybe one pleasant day we will meet at Owl's Head for a walk there. Jim.henderson (talk) 08:09, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
