AfD and articles of possible interest

edit

Project participants may be interested in contributing to the following new journalism-related articles and AfD. All are in a contentious subject area so please note the editing restrictions indicated on the talk pages (extended confirm, 1RR, etc):

All are fairly new and would benefit from wider participation. Coretheapple (talk) 15:10, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also I think Jeffrey Gettleman can use more eyeballs. Coretheapple (talk) 16:52, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Midwest Radio Network

edit

It seems to me that Midwest Radio Network is not a news media company as it pretends. The scores of news web sites it publishes practically scream coordinated disinformation. Perhaps there was once a genuine Australian media company with that name. But right now it looks like disinformation. Which Wikproject would best review this article? It is odd that the wiki-article for a media company which runs scores of sites is not being monitored by WikiProject Journalism, so I'm posting here. -- M.boli (talk) 14:35, 21 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

We suggest a new article topic

edit

There is currently no article on The Foreign Press Association London, which appears mentioned, for the regular journalism awards it gives, in the en.wikipedia articles for Isobel Yeung, Nazenin Ansari, Oliver Burkeman, Ramita Navai, Bénédicte Paviot, Fiona Harvey, S. J. Goldsmith, and others.

Note, there exists a well-cited WP page for the Hollywood FPA (of course), but also one for a very sparsely referenced Turkish FPA. These are mentioned in particular, (i) to state that if the Turkish is notable, then the variously referenced one in London surely is, and (ii) to note that finding other references to FPA London in WP is challenging, because of the poor search utilities, which, as it stands, return many hits of the Hollywood FPA, and then the many hits of the individual search terms. (Also at issue is whether, in articles, the name appears as FPA London, London FPA, and with or without "The", hyphens, etc.)

Returning to FPA London, per se: apart from its widely recognised award-granting function, and its Observer status on the National Committee for the Safety of Journalists, it is a not-for-profit "Friendly Society", and the UK Press Card Authority providing the accreditation to thousands of international correspondents that gives them access to Royal and Parliamentary (and other high level government) events, briefings and film opportunities.

According to its website, see following, it is the "first and oldest association of foreign journalists in the world, founded in 1888", a history of sufficient interest to appear as the subject of a book volume, see:

  • Goldsmith, S.J., ed. (1988). Britain in the Eye of the World: The Foreign Press Association in London, 1888-1988. London: Foreign Press Association. ISBN 9780905734019..

Here is the organisation's current web page.

We suggest creation of a short stub, which for regular editors can easily be accomplished after creating a page, adding a temporary

tag, and revealing the links to the news, newspaper, etc. source types, to proceed. 73.211.140.61 (talk) 02:05, 3 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
