Wikipedia talk:GLAM/NZOpera
Just did a page for Honor McKellar, mezzo-soprano and singing teacher, was an original singer of New Zealand Opera Company. Also suggest we at least need a stub for NZ Association of Teachers of Singing, so we can link to it. Would any of your contacts in opera have a photo of her in her younger days? There are no publicly available ones, but those in papers etc are all recent at 90 or 100 yo, and would be lovely to have her in performing days. DrThneed (talk) 23:21, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Also not a focus of your project, but made a page for Oamaru Opera House. DrThneed (talk) 02:02, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
In relation to Unruly Tourists the Musical, I've written That Bloody Woman, and noticed no category that I could find for New Zealand musicals/Musicals from New Zealand/Musical theatre from New Zealand etc, which we will be in need of at some point.DrThneed (talk) 05:22, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- I won't be tackling musical theatre in this project, but just to note Unruly Tourists is to be a proper opera, not a musical. The mind boggles. Really this a project specifically about the company NZ Opera (and its component companies, not the NZ Opera Company), and Māori/Pasifika opera singers. There's likely to be a photo archive covering NZ Opera, Wellington City Opera, and Auckland Opera, but probably nothing from the NZ Opera Company unless we're lucky. It'll be too easy for this project to grow arms and legs if we want to encompass all opera in New Zealand. Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 18:25, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
Useful notes
editThings to think about from the last Performing Arts Aotearoa project chat.
- Lexus Song Quest is an excellent list of notable opera singers, some of which already have articles. The NZ Festival holds the records, and might have photos of performers?
- Short video clips of performers would be excellent for articles (especially if the music and performance copyrights were cleared)
- There's definitely a need for an overview Opera in New Zealand article (currently in draft)
- No article for the Malvina Major Foundation also a good list of prize and scholarship recipients
- on focus list of Wikimedia project (P5008) is potentially a useful one for flagging articles worked on
Note on Iosefa Enari recipients
editIosefa Enari and the Iosefa Enari Memorial Award both need updating; all the recipients are worth creating or expanding, even if just in Wikidata. (Note: I added all these to Wikidata in the course of doing the Arts Pacifika and Te Waka Toi awards and award winners. DrThneed) But only some are opera-related so they're not a core part of this project; let's keep them as bonus achievements.
