Sep 16: Introduction to Wikipedia Assignment: Wikipedia essentials

• Overview of Wikipedia and its role in the course by Research Support Librarians Char Booth and Sara Lowe
• Anatomy of Wikipedia articles, what makes a good article, how to distinguish between good and bad articles
• Handouts: Welcome to Wikipedia (available in print or online from the Wikimedia Foundation), Evaluating Wikipedia article quality, Wikimarkup cheatsheet

Assignment

• Start the online student orientation. During this training, you will create an account, make edits in a sandbox, and learn the basic rules of Wikipedia. Due by Oct 28.

Oct 2: Wikipedia Assignment Workshop #1

Class will meet at Honnold/Mudd Library with our Research Support Team, Char Booth & Sara Lowe, in the Keck Learning Room (2nd floor of the Mudd/East side of the Library, behind the Services Desk)

• Focus: Using Library resources to identify sources for your Wikipedia articles

Oct 28: Wikipedia Assignment Workshop #2

Meet again at Honnold/Mudd with our Research Support Team, Char Booth & Sara Lowe, in the Keck Learning Room

• Focus: Wikpedia editing strategies

Assignments

• Complete the online student orientation before this workshop.
• Create a Wikipedia user page, and ENROLL via the link in the upper left of this course page using the token poli5.

Mon, Nov 10 through Fri, Nov 14: Each Group must schedule a group meeting with our Wikipedia Research Support Team
