Connecting to online classes for the Writing Wikipedia Articles course

Overview edit

We use Blackboard Collaborate as a platform for our weekly webinars (and for lab sessions). You will be provided with a link to follow. In order to connect, you will need:

  • Mac, Windows, or Linux-based computer
  • An up-to-date version of Java
  • Headphones (or speakers)
  • Microphone (optional, but desirable)
  • Reliable internet connection (wired Ethernet connection if available)

Please connect 15 minutes before class time. Sometimes it takes a little while to connect. Once you have connected, please use the Audio Setup Wizard (under the "Tools" menu) to make sure your headphones and microphone are working. (You might be surprised how often this is necessary -- even if you have successfully used the program before.)

When invited to speak with your colleagues, click the "talk" button at the top left of the screen. Deselect "talk" when you are listening to prevent audio feedback.
