Beginning edit

I like this idea. Now, how to really go about implementing it. Thoughts? –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 01:11, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Code. Its pretty much just an extension of the AWB general fixes... Reedy 01:51, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
In a way, but you could write specialized sets for specific uses; for example, scientific terms. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad some people like it at least! (I'm particularly happy to read Auntof6's point; I was hoping that that sort of extend-imperative was going to emerge.) I've already started work on the easier of the two halves of this: http://toolserver.org/~jarry/fronds/ . As of writing this, that's totally rubbish at the moment, but if you checked it in a few days' time you might find a more finished article. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 09:31, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Getting from Web edit

How are you doing it?

Reedy 17:37, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't have it front of me atm but IIRC it's "Tools.getHTML(url)" (something like that). I copied it from the revised CheckWikiListProvider I think. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 17:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Wasn't meaning that par se. What are you loading from the web page? HTML Scraping or some XML output? Reedy 17:53, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oops, sorry. Oh, it's just a plain text file with linebreak and special character delimitation. Nothing complicated, very idiosyncratic but functional. It can just live in its own world. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 20:46, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough, at least your not HTML Scraping ;). It wouldnt take too much i suspect to use a phpscript to generate an xmly output for your plugin to read and parse.. Reedy 23:47, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

RegEx edit

I'll try to add in some RegEx from AutoEd later today. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 14:25, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Those would be greatly appreciated Drilnoth. It turns out I accidentally overwrote most of my own! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 14:33, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Beta release edit

You can now try it out. The full disclaimer and instructions are overleaf. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 19:52, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cool! I'll just add a bit of my RegEx in and give it a go. Question: Will FRONDS need to be redownloaded each time that RegEx is changed online, or is it updated "live"? Thanks! –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 14:58, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
It re-grabs the list of individual items every time you load the configuration window and the list of lists when you load AWB, if that makes sense. (Note to self: Make sure that the cancel button doesn't have the same effect as the OK button.) - Jarry1250 (t, c) 15:15, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks. Could you check some of my code then? –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 15:26, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to say "yes", in the hope that that is something I can do. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 15:32, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry all! If anyone had downloaded the .dll already, they should get it again - I've now fixed the remembering across sessions (and added in a box to let you know when a new version is available). - Jarry1250 (t, c) 15:57, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Good news, everyone! I actually hadn't downloaded it yet, but thanks for letting me know. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 16:00, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

tools:~jarry/fronds/CheckWiki-0.xml edit

AWB no Likey

"Expecting 'PCDATA'. Line 4, position 18."

Reedy 00:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

It was the dtd that I drew up hurriedly last night: changing #CDATA -> #PCDATA seemed to fix the problem for all users with immediate effect. Hurray. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 11:42, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Released! edit

After testing, I hereby declare the present version of Fronds to be mostly useful and bug-free, and therefore suitable for a general release. Hurray! Efficiency improvements are still in the pipeline. - Jarry1250 (t, c, rfa) 19:43, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sources for some possible enhancements edit

This link to the toolserver has some usefull tools that I use to find problems with pages (typically in Featured review) and might provide some good ideas. Ideas.--Kumioko (talk) 17:13, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Here are a few more:

1) "also sometimes" should be changed to "sometimes" 2) "surplus left over"should be changed to "surplus" 3) "tried and true" to "reliable" 4) "unresolved problem" to "problem" 5) "resulting effect" to "effect" 6) "repeat the same" to repeat 7) "month period" to "months" 8) "in a nutshell" to "in short" 9) "during the year" to "during" There are lots more but I will leave it there for now. --Kumioko (talk) 17:35, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fantastic! You can add them yourself at [1] . Select clutter.xml, follow my example and remember to save. Cheers, - Jarry1250 (t, c, rfa) 17:57, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I added some. --Kumioko (talk) 18:50, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I added another one... but what is the syntax []? Does it deal with casing? If not, what does? Rich Farmbrough, 17:05, 22 June 2010 (UTC).Reply
Im not 100% sure but I think it identifies a space. --Kumioko (talk) 17:15, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK [ ] is better for that (or just a space -but not as legible)) and \b is a word boundary, so "\bpassed away\b" will match "he passed away." Rich Farmbrough, 17:24, 22 June 2010 (UTC). Rich Farmbrough, 17:24, 22 June 2010 (UTC).Reply

Status? edit

I just decided to try out Fronds since it seems like a good idea. What is the current development status? Andrew327 03:31, 4 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I tried to use Fronds using the version that was bundled with AWB, no links appeared in the configuration file. I downloaded the version linked on the main page and it seems to work, though I have no idea how up to date the regex lists are and it's hard to tell if an edit is being performed by gen fixes or the lists... An update on the status would be appreciated @Jarry1250:. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 13:10, 7 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
It (sadly) never got off the ground as a project, though it should still be functional and easy for someone else to take up in the future and expand. Mea culpa, really -- other projects came and distracted me. The regex lists themselves shouldn't really go out of date. - Jarry1250 [Vacation needed] 15:09, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
