Wikipedia talk:Ambassadors/Regional Ambassadors
Why is there still a site notice if the deadline for application has passed? Thenub314 (talk) 04:54, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. The deadline has been extended, but we forgot to update this page to that effect. Sorry for the confusion.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:06, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
So it's only for Americans? OhanaUnitedTalk page 05:09, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Regional ambassadors, at this point, are only being recruited for the US. Their role is to build on what's already been started with the US pilot project, to start expanding in the regions where we already have a foothold. But we're also in the process of rolling out the ambassador program to other countries... if you're interested in being a campus ambassador, at the this point the best first step is to sign the interest list at Wikipedia:Campus Ambassador.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:09, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
University professors
editNo, I do not think that university professors should use wikipedia as a teaching tool.--MajorHazard (talk) 06:09, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. While I encourage university professors to edit Wiki pages, my experience editing Wiki Tibet articles after the Tibet riots convinces me that professors should not use it as a teaching tool. The tiny number of informed Tibet editors were overrun by a majority of ill-informed Chinese students who viewed Wikipedia as a forum to express what they'd been taught by the PRC government controlled press.
I'd be concerned, but this Ambassador effort is doomed. University professors explicitly state that Wiki should never be used. My professors, whose articles and books are even quoted in Wiki articles (some with "Good Article" status such as the T'ang Dynasty article), are adamant. Longchenpa (talk) 15:47, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- There's a wide range of attitudes about Wikipedia among professors. Certainly, many are adamantly opposed to it in general. But we've found a lot of other professors are quite enthusiastic about it; lack of professors who want their students to contribute to Wikipedia isn't a problem we're having so far.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:03, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
What about Puerto Rico?
editI'm partially offended that Puerto Rico isn't included in this program. What gives? Feedback ☎ 00:54, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
