Hello, and welcome to the first Wikipedia takes the world event! This is loosely based on Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes The City, which has had huge success so far. This is an event where users all over the world take pictures that have been requested and upload them to Wikipedia. There are many articles that need a picture that might be just down your street or in your town, so all users are encouraged to participate.
Date edit
The event will take place sometime in late June 2008. On the first day (of three), the event will officially begin at 0:00 GMT. All users are encouraged to take pictures in their area that are needed to illustrate the many articles without images.
Photos edit
All photos must be taken between these days. Users can add photos to the list that they want taken, or you could take your own.
Participants edit
To participate, please add your name to this list. You can add your name any time, even during the competition. After you add your name, create Wikipedia takes the world 2008/YOUR USERNAME for a gallery of your photos and their descriptions. Remember to put a link to this on the participants list. Your photos will be judged by the community here.
Requests edit
All users who want to request a photo should put a description here.
Community judging edit
All users can judge photos by adding a "support" comment (no opposes here, please) to the user's photo page. Each support vote will equal one point.
Awards edit
Awards will be given out to all who participate. The highest places will receive additional awards also, including a Golden Wiki for 1st place. Happy photo taking!
