The forthcoming Wikimedia Hackathon Kochi – 2024 is organized through a collaboration between amFOSS (Amrita Free and Open Source Software Club) and the Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group (Indic-TechCom) on May 25-26. amFOSS, established at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, is a student-run community dedicated to promoting contributions to free and open-source software. With over 15 years of active engagement and 50+ passionate members, amFOSS continues to inspire and empower the next generation of tech enthusiasts. This club has already organized a hackathon [[1]] with the Indic MediaWiki Developers user group in 2023, hence organizers know the technical capacity and strengths of this club.
This event presents an opportunity for participants to delve into the intricacies of Wikimedia projects and the broader technical ecosystem. This is planned as a 30-hour event with an aim to foster collaboration and innovation among individuals from diverse backgrounds, offering insights into various aspects of MediaWiki core development, templates, bots, along with networking opportunities. With a focus on resolving technical issues, brainstorming ideas, and fostering connections within the Wikimedia community, the hackathon serves as a platform for collective learning and knowledge sharing.
This event is planned as an in-person gathering, anticipated to accommodate around 30-40 attendees. Scholarships will be offered to cover expenses such as food, travel, and related costs. Participation is open exclusively to students from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and other colleges in Kochi. Selection of participants will be based on registrations received through a registration form (link) by <date>.
