I guessed that the currency involved might be the Pound Sterling, which led me to the writer John Sterling. His page says that he "...belonged to a family of Scottish origin which had settled in Ireland during the Cromwellian period." It also says that he attended Trinity College, Cambridge. There is a character named Trinity in the movie The Matrix. One of the cast members of The Matrix was Hugo Weaving, who also played Elrond in The Lord of the Rings.
