Wikipedia:Wikifun/Round 9/Answers/Question 11

This may not be the answer you're looking for, but... List of saints by name:A contains six "Augustine"s, one of which is Augustine of Hippo. Of course, Hippo is short for hippopotamus, who are the stars of the children's game Hungry Hungry Hippos (an old favorite of mine), which states that 2-4 players can play (although I would suggest a solitaire version can also be entertaining). - Bryan is Bantman 19:04, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

I indicated five, not six. And I made a slight mistake. relationship with has now been added for clarification. -- AllyUnion (talk) 04:18, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Answer edit

The game that children play is Hungry Hungry Hippos. Hippo shares three letters with Harpo particularly the first and last. Harpo Marx is one of five Marx Brothers. The Marx Brothers all share the last name [[Marx]. The Marx disambiguation page appears very stubbish.

Close, but no cigar. -- AllyUnion (talk) 20:29, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I get it! Hungry Hungry Hippos shares letters with Harpo (like above). Harpo Marx is the brother of Groucho Marx (the cigar :-) who is one of five Marx Brothers. The Marx Brothers all share the last name Marx. The Marx disambiguation page appears very stubbish. -- Nis81 18:05, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Explain edit

What is the question? Is it asking the name of the game? Or the name of the people?

The question is phrased such that you need to name all the articles relating to the stated question. You must provide the logic and the articles you used as well as the searchs you used to reach to your conclusion for the question. If there is no question, you must answer all the articles of the descriptions given in the question. --AllyUnion (talk) 29 June 2005 11:04 (UTC)

Try Try Again edit

This name Marx Brothers is shared by five people (Leonard Marx, Julius Henry Marx, Adolph Marx, Herbert Marx, Milton Marx) which is placed on an article (Marx Brothers) in a list (List of films featuring trains) that appears rather stubbish. One of these five people has a relationship (pseudonym) with name Harpo Marx that is similar to the name of (an) animal (Hippopotamus) used in a child's game. This child's game Hungry Hungry Hippos requires 2 players to play with up to 4 players that can play. The goal of the game is to grab as many as a certain piece marbles of the game using the mouth of the animal.

Something's still slightly awry, but probably getting closer?? - Nunh-huh 2 July 2005 07:21 (UTC)

See above. This guess is incorrect. Try a different relationship. --AllyUnion (talk) 6 July 2005 02:08 (UTC)

Question 11 Answer edit

Luther:

Hungry Hippos search for hippo nets Augustine of Hippo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippo) Martin Luther was influenced by Augustine Hippo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustine_of_Hippo) Martin Luther is part of a disambiguation with many other Martin Luthers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_%28religious_leader%29) & (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_%28disambiguation%29)

Nope. --AllyUnion (talk) 07:23, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A stretch for an answer. edit

This is a stretch... John.

John of Patmos is listed on the page for John as John the Evangelist. If there were five Johns on the list (there are four) and "John the Evangelist" was listed as "John of Patmos", then I would feel more confident in my answer.

"Patmos" sounds like "hippopotamus". And I am the Hungry Hungry Hippos king!

Hint edit

Relationship in this context of the question means marriage. --AllyUnion (talk) 18:37, 24 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My guess edit

This name Marx Brothers is shared by five people (Leonard Marx, Julius Henry Marx, Adolph Marx, Herbert Marx, Milton Marx) which is placed on an article (Marx Brothers). There is a list on the bottom of "see also" which only includes one item - Margaret Dumont. This article mentions "Margaret Dumont (October 20, 1889 - March 6, 1965) was an American comedic actress. Born Daisy Juliette Baker in Brooklyn, New York she adopted the stage name Margaret and/or Marguerite Dumont. Groucho once said a lot of people believed they were married in real life, but they were not." Baker might mean to bake bread, which you do when you are hungry. This has a relationship with Hungry Hungry Hippos in which you pick up as many marbles as you can and needs 2-4 players.--Zxcvbnm 21:24, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have already indicated that the Marx brothers is an incorrect answer. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:21, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hint 2 edit

Wife of Hippo**** --AllyUnion (talk) 08:18, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hipponous? Not like there are any wives mentioned...  Grue  09:22, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Correct! 1 point to Bantman, 1 point to Grue. The Hippo clue was already revealed. --AllyUnion (talk) 03:21, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
