This course provides a survey of gender in an international relations context. We will examine the relationship between gender inequalities through the study of key concepts: power, violence, globalization, democratization, transnational feminism, and ethnic nationalism. Students will leave the course with a better understanding of gender, masculinities, feminisms, and the scope and method debates in the Political Science and International Relations. We will pay special attention to the sub-field of Gender and International Relations and its curious interactions in academe. We begin with the debates about Feminist International Relations as a legitimate field of study and move to methods, gender, justice, sexuality, globalization and more. We will “gender, race, and add more sexual identity” posts to Wikipedia.
