This course covers a history of Japanese literature from 1600-1900. We will read works by significant authors, while discussing major genres, aesthetics, and historical events. Students would write articles on authors and their genres and major works. These articles would summarise existing scholarship on the authors, providing links to digital copies of the works found in libraries and museums, and compiling lists of available translations in English.
