This course explores the relation between science, law, and culture, in the United States. Throughout the quarter, we will study what happens when science is used in legal contexts, how courts handle scientific evidence, and how this connects with the American culture at large. The course is divided into four thematic units: Intellectual property, The Human Body, Evidence, and The Environment. It is an interdisciplinary course which brings together the fields of legal studies, history, sociology, and science and technology studies. The course will have a set of assignments in which the students will be asked to update and edit Wikipedia information regarding the debates and legal frameworks that regulate scientific and technological practices in the US.

Assignment - Your original analytical paper

Everyone should be finishing all of the work they'll do on Wikipedia, and start writing their final paper, going beyond the Wikipedia article. The goal is to advance your own ideas, arguments, original research, and reflection about your topic.

  • Don't forget that you can ask for help from your Wikipedia Expert at any time!
