The course is a survey of twentieth-century China focused on learning about Chinese history through engagement with primary sources. Wikipedia is an important resource because reading primary sources requires independent learning; students are expected to familiarize themselves with authors, key terms, historical context outside of class as part of "reading" the sources. An assignment in which students form small teams to create a Wikipedia page on a new subject would provide additional training in using secondary literature and, most importantly, help them become discerning users of Wikipedia by learning the basic process through which content is created
